The Stress-Relief Natural Remedy at the end of your fingers and how to use it ARTICLE LORNA HOLLINGER
When I first tried Tapping I was very sceptical. I had been introduced to it by a friend, but it wasn’t until she insisted she lead me through a session to work on a real issue that had been bothering me that I could feel the impacts of this amazing tool.

ost people try Tapping by finding some videos on the internet and Tapping along with the presenter. The problem with these well-meaning videos is that they are so generic in nature, they are created to appeal to the masses, yet positioned to be able to support a person through a specific life event. Often, they don’t get the results they are either hoping for or promised by the host due to this generic nature and write Tapping off as not working for them. It’s in the specifics that Tapping weaves its magic. Tapping is the common name given to the technique where you tap your own fingers on specific parts of your body while focussing on the negative emotions you are feeling. This process combining ancient Chinese acupressure with modern psychology rewires your brain and helps to restore emotional, physical and mental health. Tapping is also known as Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT for short. So, how do you start tapping? First, pick a problem. It could be stress, anxiety, fear, cravings, physical pain or a limiting belief. Rate its intensity level from one to 10, with 10 being the highest, just so you can check for changes in intensity as you go. Next, compose a ‘set-up statement’. This always starts with “Even though…” and ends with a powerful affirmation. If you’re targeting stress, your set-up statement might be, “Even though I’m feeling really stressed today, I deeply and completely accept myself.” Repeat the set-up statement three times while tapping on the ‘karate chop point’, or the soft edge of your hand just below your pinkie. You can then move on to doing ‘rounds’. A basic ‘tapping round’ includes the top of the head, the point where the eyebrow meets the nose, the side of the eye near the temple, on the bone under the eye, under the nose, under the mouth, under the collarbone, and finally under the arm.

As you tap, tune into your issue, focussing on the emotions you have arising and where in your body they are showing up. If you had a pain, you could say, “This pain in my body …” as you tap on the side of the eye. Then, after acknowledging the problem, begin to say phrases for a new outcome. You might say, “I choose to let this stress go now,” or “It’s safe to let this stress go.” The process may take a little getting used to but once you get the hang of it and feel the results, you’ll want to use it on everything! www.australiantappinginstitute.com.au
