GIANNI DECENZO Netflix’s “Cobra Kai” Star

R

eturning to Netflix’s “Cobra Kai” on Friday, January 8th at 3 am EST, actor Gianni Decenzo plays fan-favorite character Demetri: a classmate and friend to central character Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) who is often described as nerdy and a bit of a social outcast. Gianni Decenzo can be found in all current seasons of the cult hit show whose character Demetri ends up joining Miyagi-Do Karate, becoming the third student of the new generation of the Karate Dojo founded by Mr. Miyagi in the original THE KARATE KID film. “Cobra Kai”’s announcement teaser for Season 3 was recently released on October 2020. As fans will know, the series “Cobra Kai”, is a continuation story of the original and iconic THE KARATE KID media franchise which first made its debut in 1984. Originally hosted on YouTube Red and now Netflix, the show accompanies 5 feature films as well as an animated series of the same name. Gianni Decenzo can discuss his character’s role, what is expected in Season 3 of the show, and other projects. Gianni has also starred and been a regular actor on other productions including Disney’s “Coop and Cami Ask the World”, Nickelodeon’s “100 Things to Do Before High School” the film 37, Disney’s “Liv and Maddie” and more. Acting was always in Gianni’s blood as his parents first met in an acting class. Gianni found a lot of commercial success as a young man at the age of 8 doing multiple car commercials to famous Subway sandwich spots. He shot short films to build up his resume and his experience on set, studied acting at Warner Laughlin Studios, and quickly realized acting was a career he would be fully invest in. RED INK Magazine had the great pleasure of asking Gianni a few questions.....here’s what he had to say. Red Ink: At what age did you decide to become an actor? GD: When I was about 8 years old. I just walked up to my parents and asked “Hey, when am I gonna be on tv?” And the rest was history. Red Ink: Your role in Cobra Kai, how different or how much the same are you with your character, in real life? GD: Demetri and I are a lot alike in some ways, but 4

suuuuuper different in others. On the one hand, I can empathize with the struggles he goes through in school. In the earlier years of my school life, I wasn’t always the most popular. But when it comes to his pessimistic sarcasm, Demetri takes the cake. Red Ink: Did you learn Karate before your role in Cobra Kai? GD: When I was a lot younger I took some Taekwondo, but more recently I’ve been studying Krav Maga. It’s one of my favorite fighting forms, and it helped a lot with the stuff they have us do on set. Red Ink: Are you working on any other projects? GD: Unfortunately, due to COVID there aren’t too many other projects to work on. I had the opportunity to guest star in a couple episodes of a Disney show called “Coop and Cami”. They’re an amazing group of people. But now I’m kind of looking to make my own film and TV one day.

RED INK MAGAZINE

Red Ink: Is there a special role that you would like to see yourself do in a movie? GD: Don’t judge me buuuut… I want to be a psychopath. Like some really bad guy. It’s just always fun to get to play parts like that.

Red Ink: If you could work with an actor or actress of your choice, who would it be and why? GD: Definitely Bill Hader. I love his work, especially in his new show “Berry”. That’s such a good show, and I just think I’d have a lot of fun working with him. He seems pretty cool. Red Ink: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? GD: 29…. but seriously, I’m hoping in 10 years to be making my own stuff. I’ve been working on a lot of different ideas for film and television TV, and I eventually want to make all those ideas a reality. My biggest inspiration for directing is actually Edgar Wright. I think the way he combines music and action is brilliant, and I kind of want to incorporate aspects of that into my own work. Thank you Gianni for letting us get to know you better. We wish you all the best with your career. I know fans can’t wait for the new season of Cobra Kai to start back in January. Fans of Gianni will be able to keep tabs on him via Instagram at gianni_decenzo Photo credits to Netflix. 5

Pierre Cardin Eccentric Fashion Designer, Creator of Spacesuits and Owner of Castles, Died at 98

P

ierre Cardin was one of the world’s foremost fashion designers and a branding phenomenon. Over his lifetime the Pierre Cardin label was found on everything from couture fashion, to the casual and business attire worn by everyone, to cars, frying pans, alarm clocks, pens, food, paper goods, perfumes and even an android tablet. He was a branding genius and his name is literally everywhere that you look. He was quoted, as saying, “I wash with my own soap, I wear my own perfume, and I go to bed with my own sheets and have my own food products. I live on me.” The iconic brand that became an empire at its apex had over 800 different product licenses, was sold in 140 different countries and generated over a $1 billion a year in revenue. And it all started as a child at the age of 14 working as an apprentice in a tailor shop. Pierre Costante Caridn was born July 7th, 1922, in San Biagio di Callalta, Italy. He grew up in Saint-Étienne, France where his father worked as a winemaker. As he grew up, his artistic talent and aspirations became clear, he refused an offer to carry on the family business as a winemaker and pursued a creative outlet. He began as an apprentice to a tailor at the age of 14, and by age 17 he had plans of travelling to Paris to become a bespoke fashion designer, however his plans took a few more years than anticipated with the onset of WWII. He enlisted and did not return to Paris until the war ended in 1945. He went back to being an apprentice at various couture fashion designers in order to learn more and make a name for himself, eventually settling at Christian Dior where he designed coats and suits for 4 years until 1950. On the side he continued his own creative dreams, building a portfolio to launch his own brand, and started making custom theater costumes for theater and film under his own label. His first big production was the Jean Cocteau film, “Beauty and The Beast.” From there, the rest is history, and historic in its own right. Mr. Cardin bucked trends, and changed norms, and even alienated himself from the fashion community as he embarked on a crusade to change the world of fashion and build his empire. He was the first of the “couture” fashion

8

designers to buck the trend of custom only bespoke suits, gowns and fashionwear that was at the time only available to the wealthy elite, and went on to launch the first “ready to wear” fashion line to be sold with a couture label in department stores for the masses to wear as their everyday attire. It was the first time a Parisian designer would make “affordable” clothing, and the elites were not happy about it. Pierre Cardin was cast out of the syndicate of Couture designers, for many years, until most of them followed in suit, realizing that he wasn’t a rebel, but instead he was a visionary and saw the profit in “ready to wear” that they had all been blinded to. From here he went on to globalize his brand, he was the first Paris designer to bring his designs to the Orient. He started in Japan and then moved on to China, bringing an end to their era of drab military style clothing. And then in the early 1980’s he became the first French designed to enter the Soviet Union. He truly brought the fashion industry to the world. Continues....on page 22

ailing from Lagos, Nigeria, rising

Dancehall sensation Raybekah has hit her mark with the release of "Uncensored."

Using the backdrop of an R&B flavored Dancehall beat, Raybekah's vocals flow freely as she tells her male interest that she has what it takes to show her beau love. She can be a 'bad gyal' badder than the rest of the ladies who have expressed an interest. Some say Raybekah is one of the worst kept secrets in the corridors of Dancehall. The rising sensation is enjoying musical success from Kingston to New York; London to Accra and most points in between. Industry watchers are impressed with her melodies, vocal skills and lyric selection. Purposely fusing Nigerian Pidgin English with the traditional English language, and bridging the sounds of Afrobeat with Jamaican dancehall, Raybekah's unique approach to her craft caught the attention of New York based Ora Records who signed her in February of this year. "Uncensored" is quickly becoming a favorite of selectors and radio DJ's worldwide. We would like Raybekah to be in heavy rotation globally. "Uncensored" is available on all digital platforms. Produced by Ourhouse Muzik, the song is distributed by VPAL Music. "Uncensored" is destined to be a dancehall classic. Raybekah's legacy is gaining ground on a solid foundation. by VPRecords.com 10

Yung Finnese

Y

ung Finnese, born Javan Edwards is a 16 year old rapper, singer, songwriter originally from Boston, MA. but is growing up in Kissimmee, FL.

YF has been singing, rapping and creating melodies since the age of three, and did his first studio recording when he was 12. This young man is most noted for his catchy melodic hooks, versatility, and perfect delivery in the studio. He writes all of his own lyrics and plays a major role in the day to day grind that is necessary to take his career to the next level along with his momager Shi Lewis. Yung Finnese won first prize in his first showcase competition where he went against 6 other artists, all twice his age. A year later he was nominated for the "Best First Timer" award for the Fusion Showcase Awards and won. Last year YF performed at the BET Experience in LA alongside many other upcoming artists. He has also been recognized by BMike Rob, who is well known for developing young talent, and is planning to add Yung Finnese to the roster for the "It's A Rap Tour. This tour will feature the young talent who appeared in Jermaine Dupree's television show "The Rap Game". YF's first EP entitled "Versatile" was released March 7th 2020, which he is very proud of. Yung Finnese is one to look out for! Don't sleep! Yung Finnese is up next!! Red Ink Magazine had the pleasure to interview Yung Finnese, this is what he had to say. Red Ink: What is the one thing that would make your career mainstream? YF: I believe that collaborating with a well-known artist is one way to cross over. Also, pop music happens to be the genre that is most known for crossing over. I'm in the process of putting together a pop track. I believe my love for vocals as well as R&B music will help me accomplish it. Red Ink: If you could work with another artist, who would it be? YF: Chris Brown without a doubt. Red Ink: Do you feel that age matters in the rap game? YF: Yes I do think age matters as far as the rap game is concerned. I believe the industry prefers younger entertainers, first of all. Also in hip hop the current generation is usually the one that is running the show when it comes to what is a hit and who is hot at the time. Young people click with other young people. We understand each other. 12

We use the same slangs and enjoy the same swag. Us youngins say what's gonna be hot in hip hop, if we don't like it, it probably won't move, lol. In all seriousness though, in the rap game the younger you are, the longer you can stay in the game and the more time you have to perfect your craft. Red Ink: How did you decide to connect your fashion sense into a fashion brand? YF: Well music and fashion have always gone together. Artists need to have an image. Image largely translates into how you dress and your style. My mom has some drip with her especially her shoe game, so she definitely helps keep me fresh, lol. But one of the main reasons for starting the #YF brand is because I was taught that most wealthy people have at least 7 different income streams, my merch is another stream of income. It will also allow me the chance to try some things and take some risks in fashion that I might not otherwise. Red Ink: What are your plans for the upcoming year? YF: I have a full project dropping in the first quarter. I'm excited about that! I will be completing my musical anthology that I started this year. The last two installments are being filmed in the next few weeks. I've also recently signed with a talent agency as well so I'm hoping some acting gigs, or a major commercial, or endorsement deal can come from that. I'm looking further than the stars for 2021! uby Linda Cocochyna Ford

“JULIUS CZAR”

“Hail Yeah” the gold album:

K

apreme Julius Carr is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and writer, born in the Highbridge section of the Bronx, and heavily influenced by hip hop culture and the performance arts. Aside from doing off Broadway Theater, performing at some of the most popular comedy clubs in New York City, Carr made his first stage appearance as himself under the stage name “Julius Czar” (pronounced Tsar) in 2012 at the Comic Strip Live. A few years later, he appeared as "Julius Czar” (pronounced Caesar) —a farce comedy of the Roman dictator Julius Caesar—at the Brooklyn House of Comedy. The enthralled reaction from the audience and social media is bigger than the sought-after response Carr hoped to receive. Carr knows that there is a lot of personal comedic material he is unable to talk about because it has nothing to do with the on-stage persona. With the success of “Julius Czar” (pronounced Caesar), he became known as the self-proclaimed “Czar of Comedy” with the intent to gradually separate from the “Julius Czar” character. On Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 8:00 PM, EST, Carr is releasing the gold album the “Hail Yeah” comedy album online! Topics will include drinking, race relations, the pandemic, why he is an atypical father and so much more!u 14

At the age of 17 Don was kicked out of high school for truancy and hustling, he later obtained his G.E.D. and enlisted into the army. Solider with Rhythm- Stationed in Alabama music was still always in the back of Don's mind who eventually started teaching himself different musical equipments. Taking some key notes from his idol Dr. Dre he soon turned his room into a homemade studio collaborating with fellow colleagues to produce music and write songs. Word soon began to spread of the solider with a heart of music and he was invited by the USO to perform for soldiers and various Army Stations. RED INK MAGAZINE WELCOME TO ICNA-MAC 4TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE, 2003

Pierre Cardin Continued....from page 8 His vision was always eccentric, not just his thoughts about business and his industry, but even his designs and personal tastes. He had a love of geometric shapes, patterns and designs, and it showed in his often three dimensional runway fashions. He had a love and interest in science and exploration as well. This is what led to his Cosmocorps collection, which was a futuristic “space aged” design for the Space Race. He created “out of this world” runway fashions that included helmets and visors that would stand out even on the moon. This design trend caught the eye of the government and in 1969 NASA commissioned Cardin to create a space suit design. If this wasn’t enough, Pierre Cardin even created his own proprietary fabric called cardine that was used in some of his designs. Car manufacturers also became caught up in the hype that was Pierre Cardin and in the early 70’s he was contracted to make the interior of the AMC Javelin match the sporty exterior, and hence the Cardin Javelin was born, an iconic American muscle car even today. The fashions that Pierre Cardin created were always considered super trendy and futuristic, and over years, became known as timeless, when trends came back around over decades. But the one thing that always stood out was his eye for the future and that his designs were always first to create a trend. In life, he lived as he designed. He was eccentric and unique. As an extremely wealthy man he was able to buy anything he wanted, and he acquired some incredibly unique castles to call home. One such place was the Palais Bulles (Bubble Palace) near Cannes. Quite possibly one of the most unique homes in the world, it is a massive complex of “bubble” like buildings that look like something out of the Jetsons, painted to look like something out of the Flintstones. You will just have to google it for yourself. That was not the only castle he owned. Mr. Cardin also bought the castle formerly occupied by the Marquis de Sade in Lacoste, France, where he established a summer music festival. And when he decided to expand his empire into the restaurant business he went and acquired, what was at the time, the most famous restaurant in Paris, The Maxim and he proceeded to expand that restaurant to other parts of the globe. When Pierre decided he wanted to host theater and art performances he went and bought a Paris nightclub, Théâtre des Ambassadeurs, on the Champs-Élysées, refurbishing it and turning it into L’Espace Cardin, where he presented his fashion shows, art shows and theatrical plays. Pierre Cardin was a true non-conformist, but unlike the rest of us, he had the wealth and success and spirit to back up those dreams and turn them into realities. Anything that he was told that he could not do, he did, he bought whatever was necessary and proved that he could, if there was an idea that his empire could not accommodate, then he simply expanded his empire. It was actually this tenacity that got him the nickname the Napoleon of licensors. Pierre Cardin was someone who helped shape historic and modern fashion, his labels can be seen in the most chic designer shops, and in your local Walmart. He catered 22 22

his fashions and wares to meet the needs of the whole public, some items geared toward the wealthy elite and others geared towards Joe Average. This is what set him apart in his world, he decided to not limit himself in any one market nor in any other way, and he proved that anything is possible if you put your money and energy into your heart and soul. Pierre Cardin lost his life on December 29th, 2020 but his legacy will live on for eternity through his countless brands and unique identity. You will be missed. Healthy Eating AT THE HEART OF THE MATTER by Fazia Khan Parmar

H

appy New Year greetings to the RED INK family as well as my fabulous foodie friends. I hope that 2021 brings you and your families good health, joy, and prosperity in all you do. Usually the New Year thing is to set new goals, kick start a diet, dust out the treadmill in the basement or simply promise to treat yourself a little better. These are all great things to do but if you are anything like me, I’m forgetting all of these goals by Valentine’s Day. So instead of boring you with another health conscious recipe for January, we have a Cheesy Monterey Chicken. What I love about this recipe is that it can be made as a decadent dish or you can scale back some swap outs to make it a little more healthful. For example you can choose to leave off the bacon or opt for low fat cheese. However, another way to scale back on the fat and calories without sacrificing the taste is to simply prepare the recipe to your liking and cut back on the portion sizes. The proper portion size for meat is roughly the size of your palm. You just looked at your palm, didn’t you? LOL…it’s ok, I did too. If you try and stick to recommended portion sizes, it is a great way to start a diet which is not really a diet. It is simply portion control. I do hope you all try this dish and enjoy your New Year’s. Be well! Enjoy!

Instructions:

T RY   O U R M E N U Bon Appetite

RECIPE:

Cheesy Monterey Chicken Ingredients: •4 boneless skinless chicken breasts •1 tablespoon olive oi •salt and pepper to taste •1 cup barbecue sauce •1 cup shredded cheese blend, we like monterey or colby jack •4 slices bacon cooked and crumbled •1/2 cup diced tomatoes •1/4 cup green onions

•Heat the olive oil in a large oven-safe pan over mediumhigh heat. Yung Finnese decided to start with sweatsuits, hoodies, tees, hats, and slides. He plans to grow his brand into a fashion house in the future with custom designed peices, as well as high end garments. #YF Merch comes in all sizes and colors, for men, women, and children. He even offers #YF gear in infant sizes. "NESSMOB" is what Yung Finnese calls his friends, followers and fans which he shows love to on the sleeve of every hoodie. Gilligan’s Island is one Castaway Less Today, Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann has Past Away at age 82

awn Wells was born and raised in

Reno, Nevada. She was born on Oct. 18, 1938 and passed away due to complications resulting from Covid-19 on Wednesday December 30th 2020, she was 82 years old. Dawn Wells was Miss Nevada in 1959 and competed for the title of Miss America. She was a young beauty queen, but when she was cast for Gilligan’s Island she was turned into a “Dorothy-esque” innocent farm girl. This actually became the source of the small feud between her and “Ginger” played by Tina Louise, who got cast as the role of the “Movie Star/Beauty Queen” just because of her height, and it was something that over the years bothered Ms. Wells who was in reality a “Beauty Queen.” Regardless she played this “innocent” role so well that she became typecast. She appeared in over 150 TV shows and 7 films, but because of the typecasting she focused more on Broadway and theatre after Gilligan’s Island. There she was allowed to play any role she auditioned for including a hooker in the 1981 “They’re Playing our Song” and even a starring role in “The Vagina Monologues.” Dawn Wells will forever be remembered as the sweet girl Mary Ann, whom was one of the most beloved characters on Gilligan’s Island and will never be forgotten as a timeless beauty queen and star of The Vagina Monologues. Dawn Wells, you will be missed and will always be in our hearts. uby Michael Devine
