Quality care

HOME COMFORTS

Gainford Care Homeshas grown and flourished over the years into an award-winning healthcare provider, offering outstanding specialist care to residents across the North East.

Since starting out in the region’s healthcare scene in 1995, Gainford Care Homes has grown from humble beginnings, now leading the way when it comes to providing quality care and support for residents and their families.

Founded by husband and wife team, Mohammed and Susan Khaliq, who began with one 53-bedroom nursing home in Chester-le-Street, today, the company is renowned across the region for its impressive portfolio of modern care homes.

The company currently owns and operates 13 sought-after homes, in which teams of trusted, devoted and highly-trained healthcare professionals work around the clock to make each and every resident feel comfortable, content and - most importantly - at home.

All members of staff have years of experience behind them and a wealth of knowledge when it comes to today’s care sector - and it’s this expertise that enables the company to deliver an exceptionally high standard of service and support. Gainford Care Homes is proud to offer a tailored approach to ensure the team is meeting an individual’s needs. For example, its family of Lindisfarne care homes, which can be found in the likes of Chester-le-Street, Crawcrook, Hartlepool, Ouston, Seaham, Birtley and Throckley, offers specialist dementia care and care for those with physical disabilities, while its St. Mary’s Nursing Home, a purpose-built care home in Chester-le-Street, provides both nursing and residential care. For respite and care for those with learning difficulties, Glenbrooke, in Gateshead, is one to consider, while The Grove, in Birtley, offers day care. Its Lindisfarne care homes in Chesterle-Street and Seaham both offer male-only units, too. The company is particularly passionate about, and proud of, its Lindisfarne care home in Hartlepool, which is now part of Cleveland Police’s Safe Haven scheme. As part of the police force’s dementia-friendly initiative, the care home operates as a safe and secure base for anyone suffering from dementia who may have become disorientated and discovered by, or reported to, the police. Under the careful and compassionate watch of the care home’s specialist team, each individual is looked after, listened to and comforted until they can be reunited with their permanent carer. The company’s Durham homes also take emergency placements throughout the night, should there be a crisis in the home, or if an individual’s carer cannot look after them. But it isn’t just the level of care that makes Gainford Care Homes stand out. Its facilities and engaging activity and outing programmes have also helped the company reach the top of its game. So much so, that all of its care

homes have been awarded a ‘good’ rating by the Care Quality Commission. All care homes benefit from modern, state-ofthe-art facilities and services, with many offering luxury bedrooms with entertainment systems and LCD flat screens, quiet and comfortable lounges, specialised beds and bathing facilities and Wi-Fi access. Some even offer hair and beauty services, landscaped gardens with outdoor seating areas, as well as varied daily menus to make mealtimes as enjoyable as possible. Each home also has its own dedicated minibus, ensuring residents maintain links with their local communities and are able to enjoy regular trips to wherever takes their fancy, from their favourite seaside towns on the North East’s coast, to tourist attractions, such as Beamish in County Durham. As a way of bringing them together, boosting their social skills and cognitive and physical abilities, residents are also offered a range of engaging activities, seven days a week. The company also works closely with local schools and nurseries, who often visit the care homes so that residents can meet and interact with their young pupils and children, and hosts a variety of charity events to help boost morale and bring residents together. These have included Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and activities linked to Dementia Awareness Week. With plans to expand its offering, develop its sites and build new homes, the future looks bright for Gainford Care Homes. For those looking to embark on a new career in the care sector, the company is now offering exciting, hands-on placements in association with Northumbria University. The placements provide first, second and third-year nursing students a unique opportunity to work within a working, true-to-life care home setting, helping them gain first-hand experience and in-depth knowledge in the care of elderly and disabled people. And because staff development is always a priority within the company, it is also helping staff members achieve Level 5 qualifications, helping them become registered associate nurses with the Nursery and Midwifery Council. It also offers Level 2 and 3 apprenticeship training for all members of staff who want to further their skills and careers in the care industry.
