Message from Andy Friend
Welcome to a bigger, better and new Super Rugby competition offering more games, more teams, more entertainment and more finals. This season represents a significant restructure in the competition with the CA Technologies Brumbies benefiting by hosting an increased eight home matches in 2011. The overwhelming advantage for CA Technologies Brumbies Members is that four of these matches are against the other Australian provinces – newcomers, the Rebels; the high-flying Reds; the always dangerous Western Force; and the one everyone loves to be a part of, our local derby against the NSW Waratahs. In 2011 we will run out a team ready to build on the foundations we laid last year. There has been minimal player movement within the squad which already puts us significantly ahead of where we were last year and will enable us to make some considerable inroads into our preparations before the competition kicks off in mid-February. In saying that, we have picked up a quality young prop in Dan Palmer from the Waratahs, while Julian Salvi returns from his sabbatical with Bath in the English Premiership and will take no time in reacquainting himself with CA Technologies Brumbies Members and the side. We will also promote five members of our Brumbies Academy into the main squad, including Colby Faingaa, Michael Hooper and Ed Stubbs, who all played Super 14 rugby for the CA Technologies Brumbies in 2010 and are very accustomed to our playing styles and systems. While we will boast a settled squad in 2011, our coaching staff and structure has received a facelift in 2011. Joining Tony Rea (Defence Coach) and myself in the coaching ranks are former CA Technologies Brumbies Justin Harrison (Forwards Coach), Marco Caputo (Scrum Coach) and a person who needs little introduction to the club’s faithful, Stephen Larkham, who returns to Canberra to take on the role of Attack Coach. It was fantastic to meet so many of you at the Canberra Stadium Members Bar after each home game last season. I look forward to catching up with you again after a CA Technologies Brumbies win and meet those of you I didn’t have the opportunity to meet during the year. We’re very proud to be a part of Canberra and we understand and appreciate being part of such a tight-knit and supportive community. We will certainly be doing our best to represent you in the best possible manner both on and off the field this season and we look forward to you getting behind us again for what will be a terrific year of rugby. This is an exciting time to be involved with Super Rugby; this is an exciting time to be involved with the CA Technologies Brumbies and I urge you all to get back onboard as Members and stand as one with the team again in 2011.

Message from Stephen Hoiles
The 2011 season will soon be upon us, bringing with it a new era in Super Rugby. This is an exciting period to be involved with ‘the game they play in heaven’ and a great time to be a CA Technologies Brumbies Member as we forge ahead into a new Super Rugby competition. I’m very proud to have re-signed with the CA Technologies Brumbies for 2011. There’s no question we were left with unfinished business stemming from last season, and with our capabilities we will again boast within the squad, we will be looking to realise our immense potential. Combined with this is the opportunity to throw open the gates of Canberra Stadium for eight regular season matches. We are proud of our record at Canberra Stadium and are equally as proud to be representing Canberra and the region. Canberra Stadium has been a graveyard for visiting teams in recent history – and with an 80 per cent winning record at home across our 15 years, we’ll be looking to continue this in 2011. There is no question a key to this success has been the tremendous support we receive from our loyal Members at each game – and speaking from experience, you cannot put a value on this. The atmosphere on game day cannot be beaten. It’s the anticipation in the dressing sheds before the team runs onto the field. It’s the unanimous roar when a try is scored. It’s your ability to continually keep us going when we’re defending our line. And it’s the “assistance” that’s generously provided to the referees during the game. You let us know you’re there and we don’t want to let you down. It’s you who make Canberra Stadium the great place it is to play rugby. With the CA Technologies Brumbies having finished in the top six sides in 12 of the past 15 years and with your support we’re confident of again of being there at the end of the season in an extended finals series. With the Rugby World Cup and a bigger, better Super Rugby competition, this year will not only be a celebration of rugby but we believe a big celebration for the CA Technologies Brumbies as well. I’m honoured to be onboard again with the CA Technologies Brumbies in 2011 and I hope you will be back onboard too!

Super Rugby preview The 2011 Super Rugby competition brings with it more teams, more matches, more finals, more entertainment and more home games to Canberra Stadium. The new format will see five teams each from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa playing the other teams in their country’s pool on a homeand-away basis – the new draw guarantees the CA Technologies Brumbies the opportunity to host the NSW Waratahs, Queensland Reds, Western Force and Rebels at Canberra Stadium. With the introduction of a fifth Australian franchise, the Melbourne Rebels, the revamped 15-team tournament will see the CA Technologies Brumbies host eight home matches during the regular season in Canberra.
The competition will also feature a new six-team finals series with each of the three countries guaranteed representation through at least one side. With the CA Technologies Brumbies having finished within the top six in 12 of Super Rugby’s 15 years, there is renewed faith that the men from the ACT will again be in the final running to lift the Super Rugby trophy in 2011. The schedule for the Super Rugby has been extended to feature an 18-round regular season, with the series running from Saturday, 19 February to Saturday, 9 July.
More local derbies WEEK 3: Queensland Reds 2010’s big improvers return to Canberra Stadium. The Wallabies young brigade of Will Genia, Queanbeyan-born Faingaa twins, Anthony and Saia, and possibly Quade Cooper will try their luck against some of the CA Technologies Brumbies’ big guns. The Reds, under the guidance of coach and former CA Technologies Brumbies prop Ewen McKenzie, will return to the scene of their 32–12 hiding last year which effectively ended their finals aspirations. The Reds have never won at Canberra Stadium and haven’t beaten the CA Technologies Brumbies since 1999 – a record we are intent on continuing.
WEEK 9: Western Force 2011 will provide the Canberra Stadium faithful with the first opportunity to be there to watch Matt Giteau go head to head with his former Force teammates. The mercurial playmaker missed the CA Technologies Brumbies match in Perth last season with a quad strain but will be determined for a big showing against his former side. The Force has won one of their two matches at Canberra Stadium while narrowly being squeezed out in the other, 14–12 in 2007. However, with the likes of Giteau and fellow former sandgroper, Josh Valentine, in ACT colours, don’t expect the CA Technologies Brumbies to take any prisoners as they take on the boys from the West.
WEEK 6: NSW Waratahs While the competition structure may change, it has done nothing to dilute the rivalry between the CA Technologies Brumbies and the NSW Waratahs. After a close and controversial 19–12 win to the New South Welshmen last season, you can be sure that the boys from the ACT will be determined to get one back on their counterparts from up the Hume Highway. Dan Palmer’s defection to the CA Technologies Brumbies may add further spice to what is always a heated encounter.
WEEK 17: Melbourne Rebels In a highly anticipated final match at Canberra Stadium for the regular season, former CA Technologies Brumbies Stirling Mortlock, Julian Huxley, Mark Gerrard, Nic Henderson and Al Campbell, and CA Technologies Brumbies foundation head coach Rod Macqueen return to their former stomping ground in the colours of the new Melbourne Rebels franchise. The competition’s new boys are an unknown quantity leading into the 2011 season but we are determined not to give the Rebels a first up win in Canberra.
