John I Dent Cup Preview: Round 13 Saturday, 12th July 2014
Match of the Round:
Queanbeyan (2nd) v Gungahlin (3rd) – Campese Oval, Queanbeyan First Grade: 3:05pm, Reserve Grade: 1:40pm, Colts: 12:15pm
What a match we have for Round 13 with a battle for 2nd place and a spot in the all important Major Semi Final up for grabs. Queanbeyan and Gungahlin are separated by only one point and both are hitting there straps at the right time of the season. Queanbeyan wer able to withstand a desperate Royals outfit at home last weekend given them four vital competition points to keep them in 2nd place. Prop Les Makin was a stand out for The White and received the Skins Man of the Match award while Debutant Mitchell Douch also held his nerve at half back and produce a solid game. Despite the strong showing from Douch, regular halfback Josh White will return to the starting side for the all important clash. Queanbeyan will also be celebrating Ladies days, so there will be a big crowd at Campese cheering on the team. Gungahlin secured a bonus point victory over Easts last weekend 46-8. Despite the score line, Easts made Gungahlin work for the points. Patricio Noriega, Rocky Ilolhia and Sam O’Leary were standouts, working hard in the forwards to secure possession and set the platform for the backs. Of the 8 try romping, Rocky managed to continue his try scoring ways crossing for a double, while winger Eremasi Kelei also scored twice. The Eagles will be boosted by the return of Matt Hawke and newly selected Australian Schoolboy Representative Jordan Fulivai. The last time these two teams played: Round 6, 2014 (Queanbeyan 42 def Gungahlin 22)
Wests (4th) v Tuggeranong (1st) – O’Connor Enclosed, O’Connor First Grade: 3.05pm, Reserve Grade: 1.40pm, Colts: 12.15pm
Wests are back for the final two rounds of the competition after their round 12 bye. The bye will have given the Lions time to freshen up and get ready as they need to secure competition if they are snap up the remaining spot in the finals. Wests have lost the last 4 matches in a row, and will be determined to end the streak this weekend. The task ahead is tough playing Tuggeranong, but they will be boosted by the return of Michael Smith who will add some valuable experience at the breakdown, while BJ Sione returns to the wing. Like Queanbeyan, Wests are also celebrating ladies day and will also have a bit crowed supporting them. Tuggeranong have continued their hot form running in 7 tries to nil to put an end to Uni-Norths hopes of a finals birth 39-3. While the score line tells one thing, Vikings only lead 10-3 at half time before showing their class, outplaying the Owls thanks to doubles from Brendon Tuaeki and Ernest Suavai. Vikings will be out captain Tim Cree this weekend as well as Rowan Perry who suffered injuries in that game. With such key players out especially in the back row, this could a great opportunity for Wests to rejoin the winners circle and gain some confidence. The last time these two teams played: Round 6, 2014 (Tuggeranong 33 def Wests 22)
Easts (7th) v Royals (5th), Griffith Oval, Griffith First Grade: 3.05pm, Reserve Grade: 1.40pm, Colts: 12.15pm
Despite the week off Easts were unable to prevent Gungahlin from racking up a score line against them going down 7 tries to 1. While the result didn’t go their way, Easts continually made it hard for the Eagles, putting a lot of pressure on them and making them earn their points. This weekend Easts have a great opportunity to secure a final win at home for 2014 when they take on a desperate Royals team. Royals have lost three in a row and will be down on confidence giving Easts a great chance to join the winners circle again. Royals currently sit 5 points outside the top four and need a bonus point victory to keep their finals hopes alive. This match is do or die for last year’s runners up so we can expect them to come out firing. Last weekend Royals were their own worst enemy with key mistakes leading to missed opportunities however they will be looking to fix that part of their game if they are consider themselves as a competition threat. Royals will see Ben Johnson returns to the starting side while Brian Kaio starts in the front row with Joel Penders moving to hooker. The last time these two teams played: Round 6, 2014 (Royals 45 def Easts 8)

MATCH PREVIEW There is only 3 points separating these two teams as the sit 2nd and 3rd respectably on the competition ladder. Securing that 2nd place will be very important for these two clubs so this match is the 3rd grade match of the round. In round 12 Gungahlin had a week off due to a forfeit while Queanbeyan went down by three points by a spirited Royals outfit. Last time these two played like 2nd grade it was a 15 all draw .
Queanbeyan will be eying this match a must win if they are to have any chance at securing the 4 th grade minor premiership, with Vikings 1 point clear and having the bye next weekend. Last weekend Queanbeyan’s bonus point win has them sitting on 43 points and a place in the major semi final with Tuggeranong. Gungahlin had the weekend off with Easts withdrawal of the competition and will be fresh as they look put pressure on the competition for that 4th place.

MATCH PREVIEW Tuggeranong 3rd grade have come leaps and bounds since there first round loss to Uni-Norths, having not lost a game since. Vikings made amends for that loss defeating the owls 88-10 last weekend. Wests had a 14 all draw in there last match against the Owls before there bye and will be out to keep their slim finals chances alive in which they need to hope Royals don’t receive any competition points and Wests secure bonus point wins in the last two rounds.
Tuggeranong after their 72-5 win over the Owls sit one point clear of Queanbeyan and need to come home with a victory if they are to have a chance of securing the Minor Premiership. If Wests come away with a win or any competition points it will put them in a very strong position to finish the season in 3rd place before the finals. The last time these two teams met, Tuggeranong ran riot winning 52-0.

2014 Women’s Competition Round 9 Round 8 saw only one match take place and that Queanbeyan v Royals at Queanbeyan. This was the second time these two teams met and again Royals showed why they are leading the competition with an impressive 27-5 win. Sarah Cater and Courtney Livermore stood out for Royals both scoring two tries each in the 5 tries to 1 victory. Royals now sit 10 points clear of Uni-Norths and Queanbeyan with 2 rounds to go. TEAM This weekend’s match of the round is Queanbeyan v UniNorths. These two teams have not played this year but we can expect this game to be a tight
tussle. Queanbeyan are also celebrating ladies day so the game has be brought forward to kick off at 10:30am. Royals will be taking on Jindabyne in the final match of Round 9 at Griffith oval at 1:15pm while ADFA/RMC will have the bye. Women’s Division P

MONARO DIVISION COMPETITION FIRST DIVISION:
SECOND DIVISION:
The first division competition is back on track and after a week off. With four rounds to go and a number of catch up games to be played the fight for finals spots are all still up for grabs. Goulburn are the only team assured a spot in the finals leading the competition with 8 from 8 wins; however the surprise this year has been RMC who have played 6 matches and won all 6 and are a real competition threat. 2013 Minor Premiers ADFA are not as strong as they were last year but sit in the top four thanks to bonus points they have secured through the season. Yass Rams have had a disappointing season after securing the Premiership in 2013 largely due to a major number of st nd injuries in both 1 and 2 grade, but with 4 matches to go with a bit of luck they could still possibly sneak into the top four.
The Taralga Tiger have increased their competition lead after an impressive 50-7 win over the winless Boorowa. The tigers have only lost one game this year and their current form suggests that they may not see another loss. As the competition heads into round 10 Taralga has the best for and against average only 13 points scored against them a game while there lethal attack averages 32 points a game. If teams are to defeat them, the key is to put in a strong defensive performance.
Over the bye weekend, Cooma and Yass caught up on their Round 2 fixture in Cooma. The Rams desperate for a win provided a real challenge for Cooma. In the end it was the Red Devils who took the chocolates winning 26-19. Despite the loss, Yass nd secured a much needed bonus point. In 2 grade, Cooma were far too good making light work of Yass 49-19. Round 11 two matches will take place with match of the round being Yass and Cooma, who will do battle again, this time at Yass. Whereas Hall will play host to ladder leaders Goulburn, while ADFA and RMC have rescheduled there match.

Ben Marmont in the game against Boorowa had a field day scoring 4 of the 8 tries, a great individual effort for the outside centre. Ben is average more than a try a game this season. In the other game in round 9, Crookwell have leap frogged Jindabyne on the ladder thanks to their 4121 win over Bungendore. The match was a great display of running rugby with a total of 10 tries being scored in the match. The bonus point victory now had the Dogs 4 points behind Taralga and one point clear of Jindabyne who had the bye last weekend. Round 10 match of the round will be the clash between Jindabyne and Taralga in Jindabyne. The last time these two teams met Taralga won 36-10 and handed the Bushpigs there first loss in 2 years. We can expect the Bushpigs to take their game to another level in front of their home fans as they look to regain some authority over the competition. In the other match this round Boorowa will be at home taking on Crookwell.

Expectations of Behaviour Guidelines The Expectations of Behaviour Guidelines are a simple outline for parents, teachers, coaches and players to ensure everyone is given the opportunity to enjoy the game to the maximum level. Rugby has always been a game that prides itself on fair play and enjoyment for all, so please adhere to these guidelines to ensure this continues. For further information, please go to www.rugby.com.au/communityrugby These guidelines have been developed to: - Maintain the elements of enjoyment and satisfaction in Rugby; - Make adults aware that young people play to satisfy themselves and not necessarily to satisfy adults or members of their own peer group; - Improve the physical fitness of youth by encouraging participation in Rugby by making it attractive, safe and enjoyable for all young people; and - Constantly remind administrators, coaches, teachers, referees and parents that Rugby must be administered, taught and provided, for the good of those young people who wish to play the game. It is their game. Players -
Play for enjoyment, not just to please your parents, teacher or coach. Play by the laws of the game. Never argue with the referee’s decision. Let your captain or coach ask any necessary questions. Control your temper – no ‘mouthing off’. Work equally hard for yourself and for your team. Your team’s performance will benefit and so will your own. Be a good sport. Applaud all the good play, whether it is done by your team or your opponent. Shake hands with all of the opposing team at the conclusion of the match, and clap them off in the spirit of good sportsmanship. Treat all players as you yourself would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take advantage of any player. Treat everyone equally regardless of sex, disability, ethnic origin or religion. Remember that the goals of the game are - to have fun, improve your skills and feel good. Co-operate with your coach, teacher, team mates, referee and opponents, for without them you do not have a game.
Parents/Spectators - Remember that young people are involved in Rugby for their enjoyment, not yours. - Encourage your children to play by the laws. - Teach young people that honest effort is as important as victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment. - Remember that young people learn best by example. Applaud good play from both teams. - Do not publicly question the referee’s judgement and never his/her honesty. - Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from the game. - Recognise the importance of volunteer coaches, teachers and referees. They give their time and resources to provide a game for young participants. Coaches/Teachers -
Be reasonable in your demands on the young player’s time, energy and enthusiasm. Teach your players the laws of the game and for them to play within the laws. Ensure that all players get a game. The ‘just average’ players need and deserve equal time. Remember that young people play for fun and enjoyment and that winning is only a part of it. Never ridicule the players for making errors or losing a game. Be professional and accept responsibilities for your actions. Display high standards in language, behaviour, manner, dress, punctuality and preparation. Develop team respect for the ability of opponents, as well as the judgement of referees and opposing coaches. Discourage excessive talk on the field. Insist on a disciplined approach by the players.
