Gungahlin (3rd) v Tuggeranong (1st) – Gungahlin Enclosed, Gungahlin First Grade: 3.25pm, Reserve Grade: 1.50pm, Colts: 12.25pm
Another great match of the round is on this weekend with a 1v3 matchup between two clubs who will be playing not only for competition points but for the ‘Roman Warcaba Cup’. Gungahlin are fresh coming off a two week break after their round 8 victory over Uni-Norths. That much needed win snapped a 3 game losing streak and has the Eagles back on track to make a return to finals footy. With the super rugby bye, Henry Speight and Josh Mann-Rea will don the Eagles colours, boosting both there forwards and backs. Currently Gungahlin are tied on 29 competition points with Queanbeyan and with Wests and Royals not being to far behind, you can see how vital competition points are becoming with 4 rounds to go. Tuggeranong again proved there stranglehold on the competition with a 29-8 victory over Royals in very overcast conditions. Vikings now have a commanding 14 points lead over nearest rivals Queanbeyan and st Gungahlin and it highly unlikely that Tuggeranong will be prevented from collecting another 1 Grade minor premiership. Like Gungahlin, Vikings will see Brumbies back rower Jarrad Butler turning out for the red and white for the second consecutive week. With regular centre pairing Rodney Iona and Nigel Ah Wong joining the Brumbies for the Singapore 10’s, Willoughby Axelsen will make his starting debut at inside centre, while Ernest Suavai will shuffle in from the wing to outside centre. Boosting an already big forward pack, Siope Naeata will also make his run on debut for Dean Oakman Hunt at second row. This game will be a very physical encounter and will feature plenty of running rugby from two very sharp backlines. Both teams suffered disappointing losses last weekend and will be out to rejoin the winners circle at all costs. The Owls fell 20 minutes short against Queanbeyan after trailing 16-10 at the 60 minute mark, the Whites ran in 3 quick tries to put the match beyond doubt and keep Uni-Norths winless at home in 2014. Brumby Tom McVerry stood out with strong carries for the Owls and will again feature in their starting line up. With Injuries to forwards Joe Ritchie and Nick Jones, Rueben Heagney and Richard Tamuoepeau will slot into those position, while Liam Gallagher is welcomed back into the side at Fullback. Wests suffered a shock lost to Easts last weekend and will be out to send a message that they are still a threat in the competition with a dominating display against Uni-Norths. Despite the loss, Wests still managed to secure 2 vital competition bonus points lifting them 3 points clear of Royals. With Royals having the bye this weekend, it is a must that the Lions secure any form of competition points. Craig Robberds has made a number of changes this weekend with the return of Jack Pinchin at fullback after a long stint on the side line nd with injury. This weekend Queanbeyan will be searching for their first win at home this season in a tough battle against a rejuvenated Easts outfit. Last weekend the Whites were able to secure a vital win against Uni-Norths thanks to a flurry of tries late in the second half when the game was in the balance to take the 33-10 win. The 5 tries nd to 1 victory lifted Queanbeyan to the all important 2 place on the ladder. A number of changes have been made for this match up with Robbie Bartlett and Keith Morgan joining the backline and Andy Gosslet, Ben Boyton and Tom G Darmody in the forwards. Easts have joined the winner circle for the first time with an upset 28-26 victory over Wests at Griffith oval. Now that Easts have the monkey off their back, they will be full of confidence they can pull of some more upset and disrupt teams make a charge to the finals. Last year they were able to defeat Queanbeyan at Queanbeyan and will again draw inspiration from that victory. Easts will not have the luxury this weekend of the three brumbies players who played last weekend and have made a number of changes. Clyde Rathbone will return for Easts while Mac Laudenback will slot into fly half from fullback due to an injury to regular starter Darcy Eason,. MATCH PREVIEW Queanbeyan faced a very different Owls outfit last weekend and instead of it being the 70 point thrashing like last time, they were made to work for their 18 point victory. Easts were at the receiving end of a Wests outfit that was on song. This weekend Easts will need to aim up defensively if they are to stop Queanbeyan.

‘SKINS MATCH OF THE ROUND’
GUNGAHLIN v TUGGERANONG ‘Roman Warcaba Cup’ Saturday 21st June, 2014 GUNGAHLIN ENCLOSED OVAL
MATCH FACT This match between Gungahlin and Tuggeranong will be player for the Roman Warcaba Cup.Roman “Wacca” Warcaba joined Vikings Rugby in the very early 90s as a front row forward. Already an established prop, Wacca was a long serving member of the Royal Australian Navy and reached the rank of Warrant Officer. Wacca was a long time servant of Navy Rugby and the Australian Services Rugby Team and toured too many varied and exotic locations in his Navy career. In 2006 whilst coaching Reserve Grade, Wacca came down with what was originally diagnosed as the flu. It would not leave him and further tests identified that he had developed leukaemia. It was leukaemia that would eventually claim his life on 16 June, 2007, a day Vikings hosted Wests at Viking Park. His funeral was held at RMC Chapel Duntroon. The Chapel was full to capacity with serving and retired military personnel as well as a plethora of those rugby people who knew or knew of Roman. A fitting tribute to a man held in such obvious high regard. Following Wacca's passing, David Ericcson who was involved with Gungahlin at the time, contacted Vikings to discuss an appropriate way the two Clubs might annually celebrate Wacca's involvement with rugby. A cup was decided upon and both Clubs agreed to play for the silverware on an annual basis taking it in turns to host the game. This is the 7th Anniversary of the Cup, and each year Roman’s son Liam has been on hand to play a special part in the day, and on Saturday he once again joins the Clubs to present the Cup to the winning Captain.

MATCH PREVIEW This is the match of the round between the two second grade heavy weights. Gungahlin will be fresh from the competition and club bye they had after beating Uni-Norths in round 8. Tuggeranong showed there class with a 43-0 flogging of Royals. Both clubs are known for their attacking rugby, so expect some outstanding passages of play in this game.
Tuggeranong are the only undefeated side in the colts competition and last week were tested by Royals, but came through with a bonus point victory. Gungahlin are in a tight battle and need a win or bonus points if they are to stay in the four. The last time these teams played Vikings were far superior winning 44-5.

MATCH PREVIEW Like Second Grade these two teams are the competition heavyweights and this is a 1 v 2 match. While Tuggeranong are 8 points clear, a slip up especially this weekend against could see the Eagles within 4 points of Vikings. Tuggeranong held of Royals for a 24-0 victory displaying an impressive defensive effort to hold royals to nil.
Gungahlin currently sit one point outside the top for and an upset victory over Vikings could see them jump into the four. Tuggeranong were far too good for Royals with a 55-7 victory. Vikings scored 8 tries further increasing their positive point differential.

MONARO DIVISION COMPETITION FIRST DIVISION: Last weekend’s match of the round was everything we expected between Cooma and Goulburn. The Dirty Red continued there unbeaten run in the 2014 season, but Cooma made them work for the 22-10 victory. This is the first time this year Goulburn were unable to secure a 4 try bonus point. Unfortunately Cooma’s 2nds couldn’t withstand a dominating Goulburn outfit, going down 50-12. Hall’s 31-21 victory over ADFA has seen them leap from 5th to 3rd on the ladder meaning ADFA has dropped to 4th. Hall’s Sevu Camaivurn scored a hatrick in the 5 tries to 3 win. The bushrangers made it a clean sweep winning 2510 in 2nd grade. RMC made easy work of Yass in their 78-7 victory. RMC are also undefeated as well but still have a number of games to catch up on due there unavailability. Yass took the points in 2nd grade with a 14-13 victory over RMC. Round 9’s match of the round is RMC v Hall with both teams looking to secure spots in the top 4. A win by Hall will give them some breathing room for the timing being. Yass has the hard task of taking on Goulburn but will are always a different side when at home. ADFA and will host Cooma in a battle for that 4th spot on the ladder. First Division - 1st Grade TEAM

SECOND DIVISION: Crookwell and Jindabyne definitely gave the crowd something to watch with their match of the round being decided by 2 points. The Dogs handed Jindabyne there second defeat of the year with a 29-27 victory. Jindabyne have now had consecutive losses and remain third on the competition ladder but there is some distance between them and 1st and 2nd. Crookwell remain on top of the ladder now but have Taralga sitting 1 point behind them after they had the bye. In the final match of Round 6 Bungendore recorder there second win of year with a 29-19 victory over Boorowa. Boorowa still remain winless, but are not far off recording their first win of the season. After Crookwell’s efforts from the weekend they will have the bye in round 7, while the match of the round will be Boorowa and Jindabyne at Boorowa. Jindabyne will be out to send a message they are still competition favourites, while Boorowa may see this as a great opportunity to get there first win. Boorowa are always tough at home and the Bushpigs will need to be on their game if they are to snap this losing streaking. Taralga and Bungendore will face off for the second time this year, this time at Taralga. Last time these two played Taralga won easily 36-5, but the Mudchooks will be confident after securing another win on the board they can match it with the Tigers. Second Division TEAM

2014 Women’s Competition Round 6 Last weekend the Women’s competition had some great games on offer with Queanbeyan narrowly defeating Jindabyne at Jindabyne 22-14. The Whites also received a much need bonus point, while the Miss Piggies narrowly missed out on a bonus point. Royals continued their impressive season with a comprehensive win over ADFA/RMC 31-0. Royals will have the bye this weekend giving them a break before the final 4 game of the regular season. This weekend Uni-Norths will take on Jindabyne at ANU and will be celebrating the clubs ladies day and Family. Queanbeyan will be at home taking on ADFA and will play in during the Queanbeyan and Easts Premier Division Matches. Women’s Division P

Despite a very spirited and hard fought effort the girls went down 33-10. Fee Knights and Lani Yabki crossed the line for the ACT side, but the NSW Country girls were far too strong in the end.

INTERNATIONAL RUGBY BOARD Putting Players First ‘Concussion Guidance for the General Public’
CONCUSSION FACTS__________________________________________ • A concussion is a brain injury. • All concussions are serious. • Concussions can occur without loss of consciousness. • All athletes with any symptoms following a head injury must be removed from playing or training and must not return to activity until all symptoms have cleared. • Specifically, return to play on the day of any suspected concussion is forbidden. • Recognise and remove to help prevent further injury or even death. • Concussion can be fatal. • Most concussions recover with physical and mental rest. SYMPTOMS OF CONCUSSION - WHAT YOU ARE TOLD Presence of any one or more of the following signs and symptoms may suggest a concussion: • Headache • Dizziness • Mental clouding, confusion, or feeling slowed down • Visual problems • Nausea or vomiting • Fatigue • Drowsiness/feeling like “in a fog“/difficulty concentrating • “Pressure in head” • Sensitivity to light or noise QUESTIONSTOASK-WHATQUESTIONSTOASK Failure to answer any of these questions correctly may suggest a concussion: • “What venue are we at today?” • “Which half is it now?” • “Who scored last in this game?” • “What team did you play last week/game?” • “Did your team win the last game?” Recognise and remove and if in doubt, sit them out. On field management of a suspected concussion at training or during a match Any athlete with a suspected concussion should be IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM PLAY, using appropriate emergency management procedures. Once safely removed from play, the injured player MUST NOT BE RETURNED TO ACTIVITY THAT DAY AND UNTIL THEY ARE ASSESSED MEDICALLY. If a neck injury is suspected, the player should only be removed by emergency healthcare professionals with appropriate spinal care training. Team mates, coaches, match officials, team managers, administrators or parents who suspect a player may have concussion MUST do their best to ensure that the player is removed from the field of play in a safe manner.
