Tuggeranong and Queanbeyan have agreed to play there Round 3 fixture for 1 grade, 2 grade and colts rd th under lights at Viking Park on Thursday night while 3 and 4 grade are to be rescheduled for a later date. This match under lights is going to be a block buster of two competition heavy weights and will give both clubs an early indication of where they are at early in the season. Vikings started off their title defence with a solid 39-14 win over Uni-Norths at ANU. Tuggeranong got off to a good start scoring early points putting the Owls on the back foot from the start. This week though will be a much tougher test especially in unfamiliar match play conditions for both clubs. Tuggeranong will be without Australia u20’s squad members Joe Powel and Rowan Perry and have called in Clinton Dale and Kerry Mclnerney to replace them. Hooker Michael Henry also returns this week from injury and will booster Vikings forward pack and lineout set piece. Queanbeyan kicked started their quest for John I Dent glory with an impressive 38-17 win over 2013 runners up Royals. New recruit Michael Stolberg starred for the Whites and received the Skins Man of the Match award. Centre HP Momsen also put in a solid game for Queanbeyan scoring 18 individual points while his twin brother Altus scored a double. Look for Queanbeyan to try and dominate up front with their huge forward and unsettle Vikings. The last time these two teams played: Round 18 2013 (Queanbeyan 29 def Tuggeranong 28)
Uni-Norths (7th) v Royasl (5th), ANU North Oval, Turner First Grade: 3.15pm, Reserve Grade: 1.50pm, Colts: 12.25pm
Uni-Norths have gotten off to a slow start for 2014, but have shown signs of improvement compared to that of 2013. The Owls finished off strongly in their matches against Tuggeranong and Gungahlin, but early points conceded proved to be the difference in the end. This weekend’s match will be another test for the Owls, taking on last year’s runners up. A win for the Owls will see Royals suffer consecutive loss for 2014 and put Uni-Norths on track for a break out season. Royals will be out to secure their first win of 2014 after a disappointing loss to Queanbeyan at home in round st 2. Two serious injuries to 1 graders Sekope Meke and Ben Leaper, both who are now recovering well, see a reshuffled side, with Craig McMahon returning to fly half, and Brumbies Haru Tatekawa moving from 10 to inside centre while Tyson Tamihere comes into the second row. Both teams will come out firing and will look to their backlines to capitalize on the hard work done by there forwards as they aim to join the winners circle. The last time these two teams played: Round 18, 2013 (Royals 59 def Uni-Norths 39)
Gungahlin (1st) v Wests (4th), Gungahlin Enclosed First Grade: 3.05pm, Reserve Grade: 1.40pm, Colts: 12.15pm
Gungahlin have started off their season with a bang, winning their first two games with bonus points. The Eagles made easy work of East’s with a comprehensive 46-14 win before out enthusing the Owls in the first half to win 31-14. The Eagles have been again been bolstered by the inclusion of 4 brumbies players, while Matt Hawke, Mesu Dolokoto, Mitch Connolly and Xavier Duffy all who were apart of the ACT VX’s program have lead from the front. Brumby Lionel Cronje has starred at fly half for the eagles and it was evident against Uni-Norths scoring 21 points. Wests start to the 2014 season has been less than ideal having not played a game since there last trial against Royals in late March. While they have not been able to get any game time under their belts, Wests will have had plenty of time to work on key areas and prepare for this weekend match. Craig Robberds has made one change to his side that was meant to take the paddock in round 1 with Montana O’Neil slotting onto the wing and Drew Southwell moving from the win to fullback. The last time these two teams played: Round 18, 2013 (West 46 def Gungahlin 19)

MATCH PREVIEW Like Colts, we have a rematch of last year’s Grand Final. Tuggeranong and Queanbeyan both secured bonus point wins against their round 2 opponents. Fresh from the Easter break, we can expect both teams have been working on key areas of their game in order to secure early competition points.
Vikings showed there class in round 2 against Uni-Norths piling on 48 point in the second half to win 58-16 after being behind 11-10. While Queanbeyan started off their season with a hard fought win over Royals 13-5. In a rematch of last year’s Grand Final, we can expect this match to be a lot closer than the 41-8 victory to Tuggeranong

MATCH PREVIEW Uni-North’s are off to a slow start with 2 losses, but will ready to bounce back this weekend against Royals. A couple of late try’s from Gungahlin blew the score out in last Thursday match but the Owls were in the game. Royals have only played the one match against Queanbeyan going down 28-19 in a hard fought encounter. Look for Royals to try and dominate early in the forwards to give their backs plenty of front foot ball.
The Owls aren’t off to a good start with consecutive losses to Vikings and Gungahlin. Uni-Norths did manager to secure 2 bonus points against Gungahlin but ill discipline was a major issue for them. Royals have had mixed results going down to Queanbeyan in a tight match before scoring a bonus point win over Wests. Both teams have big forward packs so we can expect a physical battle.

Royals though went down to defending champions Queanbeyan in round 2 but will be confident after there stunning last minute victory against Wests last Wednesday night.
Both Royals and Uni-Norths have started the season with a loss, but Royals bounced back defeating Wests in there rescheduled match where as Uni are yet to play there rescheduled match. MONARO 1st DIVISION & WOMEN’S COMPETITION FIRST DIVISION: Monaro First Division will have another competition bye this weekend, but a number of rescheduled matches will be taking place this weekend. ADFA and RMC 1st Grade had the honour in playing the curtain raiser before the ANZAC game between the Brumbies and the Chiefs. This is a great opportunity and experience for both clubs especially on such a significant day. RMC will then have to back up on Sunday to take on Yass in there round 3 rescheduled match. The games will be played at Yass with 2nd Grade kicking off at 1:30pm and 1st Grade at 3:00pm. Last Sunday, ADFA travelled to Goulburn to play there round 11 rescheduled game and the 1st grade match was a tight affair. The match was a replay of last year preliminary final and the clubs did not disappoint. Goulburn held on for a 29-28 thanks to a double to winger Rob Sheekey. ADFA’s fly half Jared Lewthwaite starred scoring 11 of the 28 points, and converted all 4 tries. In 2nd Grade Goulburn were far more superior defeating ADFA 49-0. The Dirty Reds scored 7 tries, with 2 players scoring doubles. Winger Brandon Courts was outstanding for Goulburn, scoring a double and kicking 7/7 to finish the game with 24 points. 1st Grade TEAM

WOMEN’S DIVISION – Pre Season 7’s The Women kick started their pre season 7’s carnivals at ANU on the 12th April with all clubs except Royals taking part. Uni-North’s, Queanbeyan, ADFA/RMC & Jindabyne all played each other with Queanbeyan being the only team undefeated. Queanbeyan defeated Uni-Norths in a battle of the heavy weights, before making easy work of both Jindabyne and ADFA/RMC. Uni-Norths were outplayed by Queanbeyan in their first match, but bounced back to secure wins over ADFA/RMC and Jindabyne to finish off on a high in front of their home fans. ADFA/RMC was the real improvers and has benefited majorly with the combination of both ADFA and RMC. While they went down to both Queanbeyan and Uni-Norths, the score lines were respectable and a lot of promise was shown. ADFA/RMC finished off strong with a hard fought victory over Jindabyne. The girls from ADFA/RMC had a number of supporter come along to watch them and in the end helped get them across the line. Jindabyne unfortunately finished off the carnival with no wins, but were able to identify key areas they will need to work on before the 15’s season gets under way and were able to introduce a number of new girls to rugby. ACT Rugby Union would like to thank UniNorths for hosting the carnival and thank all that participate. The next carnival will be Saturday May 3rd at Queanbeyan’s Campese Field where the girls will play a number of 10’s matches in the lead up round 1 the following week.
