Junior Representative Rugby Reviews NATIONAL SCHOOLBOY CHAMPS

ACTJRU REP TEAMS AT NSW CHAMPS

The ACT Brumbies Schoolboys participated in the 2014 National Schoolboy Champs in the July School holidays. ACT performed very well. Having finished 7th last year the team improved 2 spots to finish in 5th place. The team were ultimately unlucky not to finish even higher as they almost upset NSW 2 in the first game, scoring in the corner at the death, but narrowly missing the conversion to lose by a solitary point. The next pool game saw the team lose to QLD 1, before a victory over Western Australia put the team in the 5th/6th Final where they defeated Victoria.

Our ACT Junior Rep teams again performed exceedingly well at the NSW State Champs. 2 of our 4 teams finished as State Champions, and the other 2 were not far off claiming their titles as well.

ACTJRU U14 Rep Team - State Champions The U16’s and U14’s were the standouts, the U14’s defeated Gordon 17-10 in the GF, whilst the U16’s drew 26-26 with Gordon to be joint Premiers. Our U13’s were very unlucky to lose their semi 1512 to Gordon, but won the 3rd place playoff, and our U12’s beat Illawarra 21-19 in the 5th Place Final, having earlier lost in the Quarter-Finals. ACT SCHOOLBOYS REP TRIAL CARNIVAL Australian Schoolboy Maumau Monu ACT SCHOOLBOY RESULTS v New South Wales 2nd XV - Lost 17-18 v Queensland 1st XV - Lost 32-15 v Western Australia - Won 33-25 v Victoria (5th/6th Final) - Won 24-22 NATIONAL INDIGENOUS SCHOOLBOYS 4 players from our region were selected in the National Indigenous Schoolboys Rep team. They were Connor Lynch (SIRU), Braeden Smith (St Edmunds College), Jacob Abel (St Edmunds College), and Bryce Lee (Daramalan College). Bryce Lee was also named as a captain. The side performed very well in Division 2 beating Victoria 2nd XV by 51-24, Northern territory by 50-3, and South Australia by 45-21 to claim the Div 2 title.

This years Schoolboy Trial carnival again saw the ASC North, ASC South and CSC teams play a triseries at Canberra Grammar School. ASC South proved too strong for the other 2 sides winning the competition again. Results were; ASC South 17 beat ASC North 0 CSC 33 beat ASC North 10 ASC South 20 beat CSC 12 ACT BRUMBIES SCHOOLGIRLS REPS The ACT Schoolgirls team have been training for the past month and head in to two 15 aside matches. The first match will be at St Edmunds College on Sunday 24th August v Western Sydney. The 2nd game will be in Sydney on Thursday 4th September v NSW Combined High Schools.

AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLBOYS SELECTIONS ACT U12 SCHOOLS REPS At the conclusion of the champs, ACT had 3 boys selected for the National Schoolboy team. Well done, and Congratulations to; 3 • Maumau Monu (Canberra College) • Jordan Jackson-Hope (St Edmunds) • Jordan Fulivai (St Francis Xavier)

The ACT U12 Schools Rep team are also in training and will attend the Southern States Championships in Adelaide in the October School holidays. The team was selected following the ACT PSSA Gala Day in June at O’Connor oval.

School Based gala Days UC STEPHEN LARKHAM SHIELD

MATT GITEAU CUP

This year’s UC Stephen Larkham Shield saw 5 colleges participate in the 15 aside “non traditional rugby schools” championship. This was up from 3 teams in 2013.

This years Matt Giteau Cup Primary Schools Championships was held on Friday 6th June, having been postponed from term 1 due to weather. More than 20 teams participated in the rescheduled day at O’Connor Oval.

Erindale College, Champions In a tight competition it was Erindale College who yet again claimed another championship to add to their collection. Both Erindale, and runners up Peter Lucas Cup participants Lake Ginninderra College also qualified for the The Peter Lucas cup was Waratah Cup from this event. UC COLLEGE 7’s FINALS This year’s UC College 7’s Finals were unfortunately postponed due to rain on the first attempt, so were ultimately held in term 2 as a curtain raiser to the UC Brumbies v Melbourne Rebels. 4 boys teams qualified for finals, Erindale, St Francis Xavier, Daramalan and Yanco Ag HS. In the end it was the Southern Inland qualifiers Yanco Ag who took the honours, becoming the first “Country” based school to win the title. The girls competition was again a thriller. The 4 girls qualifiers were Bega High School, St Clare's College, Lake Ginninderra College and Dickson 4 College, with St Clare’s College winning the title for 2014.

Schoolgirl 10’s year 11/12 Grand Finalists UC Brumbies Female participation Development Officer Anthea Clarke was very happy with the event, “I was very impressed with the girls carnival. Not only the skills and talent on display, but also with the participation numbers with over 250 girls participating on the day. There has certainly been some strong interest this year”.

Telstra City Visits UC Brumbies Players visit junior trainings

Q: What lights up a rugby stadium? A: A rugby match. Q: Why did the chicken get sent off? A: For persistent “fowl” play.

On Wednesday 11th June the UC Brumbies players and Development staff headed out to attend local junior club trainings as part of the second round of Telstra City Visits.

Golfer: "I'd move heaven & earth to break 100 on this course." Caddy: "Try heaven; you've already moved most of the earth." If at first you don’t succeed, skydiving is not for you. Rugby Union: A game where 30 players on the field need a rest, and 30,000 spectators in the crowd need exercise.

Ben Mowen & Jarrad Butler visit Vikings juniors

Robbie Coleman at his old school St Edmund’s 14 local Junior clubs & schools received a visit from players, and the players not only signed autographs, but also passed on some pearls of wisdom.

Prophetic Peter Peter De Villiers former South African Springboks coach on his latest tactics: “I am going to pull a rat out of the hat”. Soccer World Cup Joke Q: What's the difference between England and a teabag? A: A teabag could stay in the cup for longer. A Brumbies fan, a Reds fan, and a Waratah fan are standing on a cliffs edge arguing about who loves his team more. The Reds fan insists he's the most loyal. "This is for QLD!" he yells and jumps off the cliff. Not to be outdone, the Brumbies fan is next to profess his love for his team. He yells, "This is for the Brumbies!" and proceeds to push the Waratah fan off the cliff.

There were plenty of happy junior players who certainly appreciated meeting their heroes at their own home grounds, and the juniors were able to ask all the players a variety of interesting questions.
