Terrace is Kohler’s new collection of bathroom furniture that showcases the timeless beauty of the geometric form, while cleverly integrating storage and hiding the not-so-pretty essentials [drainage and waste]. Designed in France, the Terrace collection uses the rectangular form to create a family of vanities, basins and storage cabinets. Rectangular ceramic basins, with an L-shaped profile, integrate with similar geometric shapes in a series of vanity base units – cleverly separated by a rectangular storage drawer. Tower cabinets, echoing the same rectangular geometrics, offer vertical storage - some of which is accessible without opening the door. Both the vanity units and the tower cabinets feature soft close doors and drawers. The clever “Free Drain” waste system is a concealed waste operated by a simple hob-mounted touch button to open and close the waste.
Allowing for the interplay between stone, wood and metal, Caldera furniture from Rogerseller invokes a sense of natural harmony to any contemporary bathroom. The Oak and Walnut vanity-tops can be used as a standalone piece; or furniture elements such as the Matt Rain drawers and wooden feature boxes can be added to create interest. Each piece is available to be used individually, to bring a refined touch to bathroom design. Designed in partnership with leading Italian furniture manufacturer, Falper, the timber tops have undergone a 3-stage treatment process to provide a protective finish without losing the warming ambiance effect of natural wood.

The 24-light Grand Palais Chandelier was just the fitting to make a statement for the French provincial style building. The Grand Palais 24-light chandelier has a bronze coloured, scrolled frame with cups supporting a simulated candle with a 2W LED filament candle in each; and is lightly dressed with crystals to refract light from the candles. The fitting is 1500mm high, supported on a 3 metre chain with the electrical lead woven through it. Australian hot water products innovator AusJ Imports has introduced its 10-litre Aqueous MK2 hot water system [with WaterMark accreditation], designed to provide homes, recreational and commercial users with near-instant hot water while saving on energy and water. This Australian-designed instant hot water system reduces wastage of both water and energy by having the heater located under the sink, close to the point of use. A significant amount of water and energy can be wasted when turning on the hot tap and waiting for hot water to arrive from remotely located big tanks, which can be five or more metres away. The new Aqueous MK2 comes with floor or wall mounting for installation convenience.

Even if turned off for a while [such as at a holiday home or when families travel] theses new heaters take only a few minutes to have hot water on tap when you return. The Aqueous Mk 2 [$350] can be used in several mobile and recreational vehicle applications. It can act as a supplementary heater. The Idea is to make hot water instantly available at the kitchen sink. Kitchens are an area where hot water is often used; but regularly it’s in small quantities. This means that the lag-time from remote hot water tanks is experienced over and over again; and lots of energy and water can therefore be wasted. It’s suitable for under-sink use; plus in caravans, recreational vehicles, horse floats, food vans, etc.

For example: walkways, wall, roofs, floors, bench tops, pots, pool surrounds, patios, driveways, ceramics, even styro-foam planters. These products can be coloured using a non-organic pigment or paint tint from your local paint store. These should be stirred in slowly to achieve the best effect. After application, simple finishing techniques can be used to create a wide range of natural stone and masonry results. It can be used in place of wallpaper, paint or panelling. Moisture creates an ideal breeding ground for fungi and water born pests that can lead to rot infecting your plants via the soil in the pots. Water-based timber deck coating The Australian sun can do as much damage to our decks as it does to our backs. Sikkens Cetol BLX-Pro is a high quality coating that not only protects timber against UV rays but accentuates the natural characteristics of timber surfaces. If not protected timber surfaces can appear weathered and can then deteriorate. Sikkens Cetol BLX-Pro is a water-based finish with a lower environmentimpact and odour than many solvent-based coatings. The microporous nature of this water-based finish allows timber surfaces to breathe while resisting moisture. Combined with superior protection, this highly transparent finish accentuates timber surfaces, keeping visible the natural characteristics of the timber and leaving a soft satin finish. Baths for alfresco areas Outdoors bathing is a trend sweeping the world. You can create a luxurious and romantic outdoors oasis by adding a freestanding bath to your alfresco renovation-plans. The Victoria + Albert double-ended Pescadero bath, with its wave-like design, is most suitable. Renovation of a compact bathroom The symmetry between bathrooms and greenery is undeniable. And in this compact bathroom oversized tiles, space-saving Kohler bathroom fixtures and an abundance of foliage create an oasis of calm and serenity. With space at a premium, hexagonal 600mm tiles in white, dove-grey and charcoal were combined with clever, technology-rich fixtures from Kohler to create an area that is high on style while low on space. There are several key elements to the perceived increase in space: wall hung furniture; inwall toilet cistern; ceiling-mount showerhead; and large scale tiles to reduce the visual “noise” of grout lines. Stock traditional hardwood balustrade panels The Woodworkers Company are breaking new ground by stocking panels of traditional hardwood balustrade. “Carpenters hate making traditional balustrade on site”, says Woodworkers business manager Robin Ziejka, “because it’s difficult to get the componentry and time consuming to fabricate. Lead times for customised balustrade panels are commonly 4-6 weeks, so we decided we’d stock standardised panels ready for builders to grab off the shelf”. The new stock panels are all 3-Rail Dowel Cricket Stump design, which is the most popular choice for Queenslander restorations. The panels are fabricated entirely in durable Kwila with breadloaf handrail, all sized at 1000mm high x 2500mm long with child-safe 120mm spacings between dowel uprights. The stock panels, at $260 per panel including GST, are 30% less expensive than custom panels of the same size. The Woodworkers Company are also Queensland’s largest supplier of custom hardwood balustrade, and have a large range of slotted and dowel designs to suit different eras of housing design. “Hardwood balustrade is proven to last for generations” confirmed Robin Ziejka, “Whereas the treated Pine balustrade, often fabricated on site, rarely last a decade.
