ear or far. A dilemma. If time and budget permit it, we generally choose to travel far. Now we are in good shape (you never know about the future ). Furthermore, we have time now and don’t know if work will afford us other occasions and so forth. That which is far always seems more exotic, intriguing and makes us feel more like travelers. A simple stop-off is not enough; more time and curiosity are required for a richer experience. June, however, is still time for nearby destinations. Long journeys are usually left for July and in some cases August. No problem if we know how to be attentive. What is nearby may surprise as much as the exotic on the other side of the planet. So we went around the Mediterranean for this issue to present you with a bit of Mare Nostrum as we say in Latin.

HOTEL COLONIALI

The records are numerous: the largest city in the world, one of the most populous, the largest economic center and the most polluted city in China. Today the “northern capital surprises. For its size, technology, architecture. But above all for tradition that reveals itself when one least expects it.

he inimitable Four Season’s ambience envelopes you as you step through the door and staff rush over to relieve you of your bags and give you the warmest of welcomes. And you find yourself in a luxury home-away-from-home in the tranquil embassy suburb of the sprawling metropolis of Beijing. Lush muted colours, art works that make daring statements, and a casual elegant flow of patrons, who stop to admire the current popup exhibition in the lobby on their way to the Opus Lounge or to the lifts up to the 313 rooms and suites. The 730 square metres of the Presidential Suite - the Palace in the Sky - take up the entire 27th floor and is an über-chic apartment with three king-sized bedrooms, bespoke art works, landscaped gardens and a plunge pool. The Chairman, Beijing and Ambassador suites vary from 114 to 55 square metres, and the Four Seasons Rooms are the top in the room range. Golden-hued walls and fabrics abound, interspersed with rich blues and flashes of Chinese lacquer red to create a spectrum of opulent colours. The Tea Garden next to the Spa is a tranquil corner with wicker armchairs and a selection of Chinese teas where an art work of startling dimensions - a wall studded with a mind-boggling flight of 400 stainless steel butterflies - soars effortlessly to the 27th floor. The Four Season’s Spa, with it’s sun-dappled swimming pool, has 11 treatment rooms and is made for unwinding and relaxing with customized wellness treatments.

The dining options are nothing short of spectacular. The dazzling coiled ceiling-long chandelier and lavishly flamboyant dĂŠcor in Mio are counterbalanced by the two open kitchens and a traditional pizza oven. Here Michelin chef Marco Calenzano, and his newlyarrived partner Aniello Turco, delight patrons with their innovative and playful twists on Italian evergreens. Like Mio, the Cantonese cuisine in Cai Yi Xuan continues to amass accolades, and the Opus Lounge serves breakfast as well as buffets and Ă la carte menus.

f the face is our business card, the smile goes even further. It communicates as much as a glance. It attracts (or repels). Be it sincere, false, just noticeable or marked, it is part of our body language. Our teeth are then the soul of our smile. Our lips can do an excellent job in communicating a mood, but if what they reveal is not up to par, the message is compromised. Hence a “perfect” smile, with perfectly aligned white teeth has become a must. Since 1987 Alessandro Guasti and Lorenzo Massai have made research the distinctive character of their work - above all research on health. The health of the teeth, gums and jaw bone, indispensable prerequisites for any conservation or esthetic work. Dr. Massai taught at the Clinica Odontostomatologica of the University of Perugia, where he did research on dental materials. Board member of the Accademia Italiana di Conservativa, he is the co-author of the book “Restorative Dentistry”, chosen as a textbook by prestigious American universities, thus creating a source of pride for Italian quality in the field of dentistry too. He is also a speaker at numerous courses and conferences and is mainly involved in restoration and periodontal and implant surgery. Dr. Guasti, in addition to his odonto-technical experience, was a dental consultant at Pastis-Cnrsm (National Center for Research and Development of Biomaterials). He is a speaker in Italy and abroad at numerous courses and conferences as well as co-author of scientific articles. He is primarily concerned with esthetic-functional issues and prosthetic-implant rehabilitation. Whatever the problem may be, Studio Guasti e Massai will find the best solution, with the latest materials, tested and guaranteed. Above all, you will be advised with sound judgment and common sense. Sometimes you will be discouraged, especially if you ask for an esthetic whim for which some radical action is required. However, you will be sure to have the best up-to-date and most suitable treatment for your needs. Hence you will discover that you have a nice and very exclusive smile ... because it will be yours and not the artifice of bogus advertising.
