EDITORIAL Ovidio Guaita, International Editor-in-Chief

t is a fact that regardless to what is happening in the world, we continue to travel. And fortunately, since ideas circulate with people (besides with terrorists), they share experiences, lifestyles, customs, impressions…cuisine, tastes, fragrances. A loss of identity? Perhaps, it is the contrary. We are evermore ourselves because we are also more and more others. And, please, let’s stop talking about Islamic terrorism. Muslim assassins don’t make Islamic terrorism. They make stupid terrorism, for terrorists don’t realise that they are little insignificant pieces in a game which is much bigger than they are, one they don’t know and one that has very little to do with religion.

Does anyone still believes in fairytales? Does anyone still believe that the Catholics and Protestants in Ulster were firing at each other for religious reasons? Or that the Jews endured the Holocaust for religious disagreements. Travelling is economy. Countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, and Yemen counted on the earnings from tourism. Numerous families survived on this, and now that it no longer exists, some youth may think it is the fault of the West. Perhaps, he will “die for the just cause”. It’s a good thing that we continue to travel, to share and to be tolerant. Certainly, there may even be fewer terrorists.

Go beyond your expectations with Resorts Magazine!

ATHENS

Paolo Gerbaldo

Attica almost suspends time. The fortress of the Acropolis, with the Propylaea, the Erechtheion and the Parthenon, takes us back to the age of Pericles. The symbol of the Hellenistic civilization is the portal to the Athenian coast: a coast rife with history and colours.

DESTINATION | ATHENS

The trip south continues, leaving chaotic Athens behind. Having arrived at the last stop in the southwest of Attica, archaeology lovers only have to look: the Temple of Poseidon dominates the Cape Sounion. From the promontory the eye looks out over the infinity of the Aegean Sea. In this space outside time, the minds of travellers cannot help but project themselves toward the horizon. Our correspondent Paolo Gerbaldo is telling us more about the Greek hospitality.

he Grand Resort Lagonissi offers, above all, a perfect escape from Athens. Ubiquitous views, the green gardens and a blue sea are, in fact, the frame for this intimate resort situated on a private luxuriantly green peninsula between Athens and Cape Sounio. Along with its exceptional position, the Grand Resort Lagonissi offers service which ensure that guests’ demands are always met. The space available to them is the common denominator in the various accommodations: refined and spacious oases of comfort bathed in light and the colours of the Aegean Sea - including private spaces for relaxation and sport – all come with the bungalows, suites and the villas. A variety of flavours can be enjoyed at the Resort restaurants, all located in areas with idyllic views. The most important, of course, are the Greek ones. Traditional Hellenic cuisine characterises Ouzeri Aegeon, and a special touch animates Galazia Akti, as it is dedicated to the essence of the cuisine of Crete.

The predominant line of Mediterranean cuisine is reinforced by the selection of dishes from the Italian tradition. Quality products and technical skill are used to compose the menu at the Captain’s House. A trip from the Orient to Polynesia is reserved at Kohylia Polynesian. On the abundant menu stand out sushi and sashimi, without neglecting other outstanding delights. A serene atmosphere makes the Grand Resort Lagonissi a corner of tranquility that, just the same, does not neglect elegance.

verlooking the seaside drive in Portorož-Portorose, Hotel Slovenija, the top of the LifeClass resort, proposes a colour ful design which rhymes with functionality and attentive service. After crossing the bright lobby, guest reach the rooms which, in eco-modern style, combine the view of the Adriatic Sea with the magic of the principle colours of Slovenian Istria: the blue of the sea, the white of the salt and the green of the landscape. However, Hotel Slovenija is an irremissible destination for wellness and bathing and thermal pleasures. Its entire philosophy dedicated to caring for oneself shapes, in fact, the ample spaces of the LifeClass resort with its Thalasso Centre alongside the Ayurveda one and Wai Thai – an intensive path where the East and West crisscross to give guests an impressive sensorial experience. The “health springs at the seaside” reaches

completion with the Sauna Park and the recreational Thermal Centre: thermo-mineral pool of the Primordial Sea and the pool with heated sea water. The world of LifeClass healthy pleasures includes several programs, among which the anti-ageing one, which is executed under medical surveillance. With an offering that aims at completeness, the cuisine as well has not been left to chance. The concept of brain food enlivens the gastronomic proposal of the Ă la carte restaurant Top Tree. Chef Giulio Giaiotti, placing great attention on quality and the search for raw materials, creates, in fact, dishes capable of highlighting the Mediterranean cuisine, superbly uniting it with Istrian products. A menu created for social excitement, on the other hand, is proposed by Chef Marko Gorela in the Istrian Tapas. Local seasonal products to revisit, in an enthusiastic way for the palate, the culture of tapas.

12th Festival of Pacific Arts in Guam The world will gather in Guam to witness the Pacific Island region’s diverse and spectacular cultural heritage at the 12th Festival of Pacific Arts. Every four years, FestPac brings together artists and cultural practitioners from around the Pacific region in celebration of Pacific cultural and contemporary practices, including demonstrations from artisans who are keeping ancient carving, weaving, tattooing and dancing traditions alive. This summer, Guam will host the event from May 22 through June 4, including delegations from 26 nations throughout the Pacific. A combined 2,500 to 3,000 from all delegations are expected to participate in the festival. While delegations from most other countries are capped at 150, as the host country, Guam will present the largest delegation of all participating countries. The 500-member Guam delegation consists of the island’s finest cultural practitioners and artists in various disciplines: performing arts, traditional arts, demonstrations and exhibitions, literary arts, visual arts and forums, workshops and seminars.
