Salamanca.

ometimes it is the allure of the exotic that strikes. Other times, instead, it’s just the places around the corner that are more intriguing. The first time I visited Borobudur I thought it was a dream . After seeing it so many times in guides, it was finally in front of me. I could walk through it, touch the lava rock. The surrounding jungle, the people, the smell of spices dressed my vision with the exotic. But I felt the same wonder, the same charm, the same admiration in nearby Salamanca with its courtly “ Salamantino “ style buildings. Its pink stone from Villamayor, the mixture of styles, the Islamic influences, the relaxed atmosphere of the big provincial town but, at the same time, the effervescence of the university campus. This all makes it a timeless place. How timeless Mexico is with its many destinations. On these pages, we propose one in Baja California. It is one of the less historical destinations. Nonetheless, it is definitely glamorous. And then other timeless classics - for traveling has many faces and many expression . Even in its exclusivity. Go beyond your expectations with Resorts Magazine!

Today it appears as an architectural gem.

t forty kilometers from Yogyakarta on the island of Java is one of the greatest Buddhist temples that exist. The dimensions of 123x123 meters and a height of 35 meters make it a giant. The blocks of lava stone are carved with bas-reliefs depicting the endless story of the Buddha. It’s actually a stupa made of many stupas. Its construction began in 800 A.D. and lasted almost a century. Curiously, its story was short and, after an volcanic eruption, it was completely submerged in ash and later vegetation. Meanwhile, Indonesia had converted to Islam and the traces of Borodobur were lost but not the memory of it. This remained in the form of the legend of the “ temple-mountain “. It was the British governor Thomas Stamford Raffles, a great lover of archeology, who started the search. The Dutch researcher, Cornelius, continued and the temple was eventually found buried under the vegetation.

he driver stops halfway down the slope that leads to the entrance of the resort. The central edifice is there, before us, with its enormous black lava stone covering in the shape of a stupa. The staff and director are present to receive us, but the car stops. Through the central corridor of the building a vision awaits us. Distant but clearly visible, right in the center of the opening, we see the Borobudur temple, one of the most significant Buddhist shrines. The reason for the trip to this region in the center of the island of Java. It was Sir Raffles, governor of Java - the same one who founded Singapore - who first showed an interest in this magnificent monument, when only the locals narrated its majestic presence. Now it is before our eyes. While seated in the lobby completing the check-in formalities, our eyes always wind up there. Amanjiwo pays homage to this vision. All of its architecture is inspired by the form of a stupa. The resulting composition is extraordinarily elegant. The resort forms a semi-circle on the side of the mountain facing the temple, affording a breath-taking view of the valley. In the morning mist which still envelops the tropical vegetation, emerge the villas of the resort - they too in the form of stupas. Inside, a canopied bed lies on a raised stone platform. The pool in the garden, instead, is made of the same lava stone as the roof. Leaving is not easy. It will not be easy to forget breakfast with the valley at our feet and the temple that hovers above the horizon. Driving up toward the gate we glance back and once again we observe it through the lobby. Today the air is clear and it seems like we can touch it. It is impossible not to see it and think that it was there for a thousand years before we realized it.

The flight is long? The passengers next to you are noisy? The company’s headphones do not work well? It’s time to move on to the Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones from Bose. Among the various models, we tried the QC20. Lightweight, well-molded to fit your ear, but above all effective: in superbly reproducing the music (especially the bass) and in eliminating the surrounding noise. The isolation is not total, and this is good because it allows us to stay in touch with the world around us without being disturbed. Bose products for the home, in the car, on the go and in public spaces have become iconic. From the company’s home entertainment systems and Wave music systems, to noise cancelling and audio headphones, digital music systems, Bluetooth speakers and professional solutions, Bose has changed the way people listen to music. www.bose.com
