QB: Quanto Baste. O nome emprestado dos livros de receitas portugueses diz bem sobre a proposta da revista e sua busca pela dose exata. Sem pretenção de conter muita informação que não a visual, o que pretendo é criar curiosidade e fomentar o “QUERO MAIS”, por isso pouco texto e não muitas imagens.

About the magazine
QB = as much as needed. The acronym, borrowed from Portuguese recipe books, is reflective of the magazine’s proposition in its search for the exact measure. Without the assumption to contain much information other than visual, what I aim for is to generate curiosity and encourage a sense of “I WANT MORE”. Hence little text and just a sprinkling of images. Have fun and if you feel like you want more, just ask!

Fundado em Berlim (1991) por Nuno Mateus e José Mateus, ARX Portugal é um atelier de arquitectura estabelecido em Lisboa.
“A nossa arquitectura não segue um léxico, ou uma linguagem fixa. Em cada novo caso, procuramos encontrar os ´vocábulos` para uma linguagem específica desse novo contexto. Mais do que procurarmos os pontos comuns entre cada novo projecto e o anterior, interessa-nos encontrar as diferenças. É como se voltássemos sempre ao zero. E, a um certo nível, é essa ideia de inovação que nos interessa.
Evidentemente que esta abordagem também nos abre um campo de pesquisa muito vasto. Não tendo que trabalhar dentro de pressupostos fixos, procuramos um caminho experimental, onde podemos testar novos conceitos a partir daquilo que nos interessa e fascina. No entanto, parecem-nos sábias as palavras do poeta e filósofo brasileiro António Cícero que um dia disse: ´o que interessa, não é tanto escrever algo novo. É escrever algo que a leitura não envelheça`.
O futuro é sempre difícil prever, mas, comprovadamente, depois das revoluções, do desinteresse pela história e da globalização, virá certamente um retorno à cultura local, específica, à arquitectura feita de pequenos mas sólidos impulsos a partir das coisas que nos chegam.”
Started in Berlin (1991) by Nuno Mateus and José Mateus, ARX Portugal is an architecture office based in Lisbon. “Our architecture doesn’t follow a lexicon or a stabilized language. In every new project we try to find the ´vocables` for a specific language to the new context.
More than searching common points between each new project and the previous, our interest focus more on finding differences. It is as if we were always returning to zero.
And, at a certain level, that is our conception of innovation. Evidently this approach also opens up a vast research field. Not having to work within rigid precepts, we search an experimental path where we can test new concepts starting from what interest and fascinates us. Meanwhile, wise seem to us the words of the Brazilian poet and philosopher António Cícero that once said: ´what is interesting, it is not much writing something new, but writing something that the reading doesn’t date it.`
The future is always hard to predict, but, com-probingly, after the revolutions, of the disinterest in history and the globalization, there will be certainly a return to the local, to the specific, to the architecture made of small but solid impulses from the things that arrive to us.”

The Bussaco Palace has all the features of the dreamer’s “romantic palace” - set in the heart of the glorious Bussaco National Park, high on a hill, and resplendent in its decorative Manueline-Gothic architecture, this legendary Palace was built for the last King of Portugal in 1885, converted into a deluxe hotel in 1917, and is nowadays one of the most beautiful and historic hotels in the world.

Em termos de menu encontra duas opções: um com 12 momentos, e outro mais curto, com 7 momentos, aos quais pode acrescentar um wine pairing.
Marlene, é um espaço irreverente, vibrante e rebelde, com uma forte atração pela novidade. Marcado por uma beleza simples, à média luz, o Marlene, é dominado pela cozinha aberta, em ilha ao centro do restaurante, sofisticada e limpa e pelas cores da nogueira escura nas mesas.
In this refined space, a gastronomic journey is served that is a reflection of the Chef’s learning, in a search for a modernized Portuguese recipe through a combination of techniques from around the world. A proposal guided by seasonal products and sustainability, just as Marlene Vieira’s cuisine has always been. In terms of menu, you will find two options: one with 12 moments, and another shorter one, with 7 moments, to which you can add wine pairing.
Marlene, is an irreverent, vibrant, and rebellious space, with a strong attraction to novelty. Marked by a simple beauty, in medium light, Marlene is dominated by the open kitchen, on an island in the center of the restaurant, sophisticated and clean, and by the colors of dark walnut on the tables.

Vidro / Glass
A linha de montagem sucede-se com a elegância de uma dança, como se um maestro imaginário conduzisse quem ali trabalha o vidro, nas pontas de tubos de ferro que rodopiam no ar, peças que entram e saem dos fornos fumegantes (as temperaturas do vidro quase líquido rondam os 1.000°C).
Do fogo nasce a matéria bruta, que moldada com maestria se refuta, o sopro transforma o simples em sublime, depois o que se segue é completar a beleza das peças através de lapidação, polimento e pintura.
E o vidro ganha vida.
Atualmente as fábricas de vidro em todo o mundo que são conhecidas por produzir vidro de alta qualidade, embora possam não ser exatamente comparáveis em termos de história, tradição e estilo, estão reduzidas a apenas cinco.

The assembly line takes place with the elegance of a dance as if an imaginary maestro were leading those who work the glass there, at the ends of iron tubes that whirl in the air, pieces that enter and leave the smoking furnaces (the temperatures of the glass almost liquid, around 1,000°C).
From fire, raw material is born, which when molded with mastery is refuted, the breath transforms the simple into the sublime, and then what follows is to complete the beauty of the pieces through cutting, polishing, and painting.
And the glass comes to life.
Currently, the glass factories around the world that are known for producing high-quality glass, although they may not be exactly comparable in terms of history, tradition, and style, are reduced to just five.
