Q. What do your day-to-day job responsibilities include?
A. No two days look the same. There are many responsibilities that fall under my position. On certain days I may give day program tours and attend ISP meetings. On other days, I may be in the office doing scheduling and billing. My favorite days are the ones that I get to spend with the individuals that I serve. Whether I am taking a work crew out for a vocational job or having a night out on the town in Nashville with individuals, we always have a good time.
Q. What is the inspiration behind why you work in this field?
A. I started working in this field as a part-time job and instantly working with this group of individuals became a passion of mine. I learned that it is possible to go to work, love what you do, have fun while doing it, all while having a positive impact on individual’s lives.
Q. What advice would you give to someone who is new to your field?
A. Be creative, think outside the box, and know that you have the opportunity to make someone’s day better. In my experience, there is nothing better than that and do not forget to have fun while doing it.
Q. What is your favorite success story you have seen?
A. I have provided services to a girl through transportation as she bounced around from day service to day service for years. For her, community employment was not thought of as much of an option. Until she was given a chance to work at Aultman Hospital through the Epic program. She successfully completed the program and was offered an employment position. Still to this day, she is employed in the Aultman kitchen. Way to go Alyssa!
Q. If you could go back and talk to yourself at the beginning of your career, what advice would you give yourself?
A. There are going to be many extremely long days, but it is all going to be worth it. Be patient! Do not fear change, as it can be for the better. Follow your heart, but do not hesitate to make business decisions when necessary.
