the fast concept Bike manufacturers have different ways of claiming to be the best. Some claim to be the lightest, others the having the best stiffness-to-weight ratio. But there’s one variable that riders and manufacturers can’t change: Wind resistance. That’s why Ridley has developed innovations like Future Aero Speed Technology (FAST). These technologies eliminate turbulence and reduce drag, both in wind tunnels and in real-world riding situations. We’ve found that our test riders have a lower heart rate and use less power to achieve the same speed when compared to similar bikes that don’t have Ridley’s FAST technologies.

size matters It is essential that bikes be fitted to the rider to gain every benefit of the cycling experience, from ride comfort to pedaling efficiency. While it’s easy to swap components to achieve better fit, it’s markedly harder to do with the frame. Aero ‘We Make You Go Faster with Less Effort’ From the beginning, Ridley has been at the forefront of bicycle aerodynamics. Before it was a fad, we developed and patented a series of FAST technologies setting the benchmark for what an ‘aero road bike’ should be.
‘Aero’ is more than just tear dropped tubes. 5 QUESTIONS ABOUT ELECTRONIC GEAR SHIFTING
FACTS
In 2008 Shimano introduced electronic gear switching groups for road bikes. Since then, the Di2 (Digital Integrated Intelligence) system has been used by more and more cyclists - pro, amateur and enthusiast. In this infographic we will have a look at the operation and the advantages of electronic gear shifting.
SHIFTERS
The cyclist can adjust the behaviours of the shifters themselves, for example with one push of a button you can shift three teeth (or more) higher or lower when you shift gears. The operation of the front and rear derailleur can be changed using the shifter buttons. Ideal for left-handers.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF ELECTRONIC GEAR SHIFTING?
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE BATTERY RUNS OUT?
CAN I CYLCE IN THE RAIN WITH THE SYSTEM?
The main advantage of electronic gear shifting is the convenience and speed where shifting gears takes just a light push on a button. The system operates so smoothly because exactly the right moment is chosen to shift gear. Another main advantage is the auto trim function of the derailleurs which prevent the chain from catching. Finally, the shifters are extremely compact to increase handlebar control.
According to the official documentation you can shift gears for at least 1,600 kilometres on just one battery load. If you don’t shift gears often, you can increase your travel distance. If the battery runs out, first the front derailleur stops working. Then you can shift gears for another 250 kilometres using the rear derailleur. The battery indicator shows the status, so you don’t have to worry about your battery suddenly stops.
Electronic gear shifting also operates effortlessly under difficult conditions, for example when driving through clay or dust. It is not without reason that the system is frequently used in cyclo-cross and cross-country* competitions.
DO PRO CYCLISTS USE THIS SYSTEM?
CAN I TEST RIDE THE SYSTEM?
Certainly. There are a lot of professional teams and cyclists who have been enjoying this system for years. Known examples are Bauke Mollema, Marianne Vos, Joaquim Rodriquez, Marcel Kittel, John Degenkolb, Chris Froome, Sven Nijs and Julien Absalon*.
It is possible to test the system. This can be done at the Shimano Service Centres. Furthermore, Shimano will be testing bikes throughout the year at various cycling events.
