Research
For this brief there were numerous elements that required research, ranging from existing exhibition branding, to exhibition names and basic exhibition design. In addition to this previous knowledge of the previous years shows was crucial as it was required that something new and different was needed for the design.
1 - Exhibition Branding
#02
Exhibition branding was one of the most important parts which needed to be researched. Looking at other examples of end of year exhibition branding helped us gain a better understanding of what had already been done.

Contextual research into posters that consist of typography to see what has been done before and for inspiration purposes as most the ideas we had were heavily typographic.
4 - Initial Sketches
Some initial sketches during the early stages of design for the brief. Exploring names, poster layouts and initial ideas for the campaign.

We had all been given a specific topics within the overall concept to design for, I was designing for the first stage of the concept which was a simple and bold representation of the name. Moving on from the initial sketches and onto some digital design developments, using a few different names I had tried a few different ways of breaking up the text and incorporating each of the course names in order to emphasise LCA’s diversity.

6 - Further Developments
The addition of colour in these developments give them a more finished look than the previous stage. The name had also been refined down to ‘Breaking the Mould’ at this stage and I had continued to try and break up the words without distorting them at all.

Concept
After everyone had done the parts they had been delegated a solid concept had started to form. Breaking the Mould is about showcasing the leading talent and diversity that Leeds College of Art students have to offer. It also further pushes the idea of leaving university after 3 years, and also how LCA is at the forefront of the northern creative scene, i.e., ‘breaking the mould’. The concept was split up into 3 tiers. The first tier which I was delegated to work on was focusing on type and colour without any distortion, we had agreed that this was the concept in its simplest form. The second tier, similar to the first was a little more disruptive with the type and allowed some breakage. The final tier is a 3D interpretation of the concept and takes more of a literal meaning of ‘breaking’.
