Considering that this is a branding and identity brief some research into the existing and previous branding that MiNT Fest has had was crucial. Looking at the previous designs that the festival has used, it is clear to see that they have only recently established a style of imagery that they have been using. The current imagery almost makes the festival look ‘family friendly’ and as though there will be fairground rides and attractions. After having been to the festival myself I know that this tone of voice which the current design is communicating is not representative of what the festival really is.

2 - Festival & Event Branding
Looking at branding of other UK festivals aided me in gaining a better understanding of what the competition is like in addition to what trends are occurring within festival and event branding for electronic music.

3 - Glitch Imagery
#03
MiNT Festival is primarily an electronic dance music festival, therefore the I had researched into the use of glitch imagery as I feel this would further emphasise the festival’s speciality.

4 - Initial Visuals
With these initial visuals I have played around with a few different glitching methods to break up the existing MiNT logo which they have been using. They turned out a lot better than I expected and was a good starting point for the logo design.

5 - Logo Developments
Extended Practice Submission
Moving on from the initial logo glitches I started to add some more text which would be part of the finished logo. This gave me a better idea of how the glitched logo would actually work. After having added the extra text I decided to make the glitch effect less prominent and went for something a bit more subtle. This worked much better as some of the glitches were too hard to read.

Concept
The overall concept behind the design for MiNT Festival which I have done was to design something which was more representative of the festival itself. I feel that the current design does not represent what the festival is about, especially because of some of the imagery which is used in it which would suggest that it has attractions and rides. The use of glitch type and imagery emphasises the music that MiNT Festival is known for, electronic ranging from, house, techno, drum & bass to trance and hard-style. The strict colour scheme for the branding gives MiNT Festival a more contemporary and modern look, in addition to tieing with the name itself.

6 - Final Solutions
These are the final designs which I designed for the festival. I wanted to keep the designs fairly strict to things you would find at a day festival. The use of bold sans serif fonts throughout the branding further pushes the theme of electronic and computer generated music and ties in with the modern aesthetic I have aimed to achieve.

7 - Image Glitches
All of the imagery which I have used throughout the final solutions for this brief have been sections of glitches of a photo. The photo is of the location the festival is to be at held this year - Wetherby Racecourse. Using a photo of the location as the main form or imagery further pushes the concept that MiNT Festival is about the music at that place at that time.

8 - Final Deliverables
The deliverables for this brief ranged from the logo and imagery for the branding, along the wristbands, tickets, promotional line up posters, festival programme fold out posters, promotional mix-tape CD, and mock ups of the branding applied throughout the festival; on staff uniforms, projections and wristbands. With consideration to the fact that most of MiNT Festival’s promotional materials are online, suitable social media sites which would be used to promote the festival have been mocked up to show how the design would work across digital platforms.
