Tempe Rio Salado Meeting Minutes April 30, 2015 ATTENDANCE Members: Larry Horton, Kent Hendricks, Geoff Pashkowski, Ben Eubank, Corey Bruggeman, Patrick de Haan, Karen Ingersoll Guest: Kymla Eubanks, President-elect – Tempe Downtown Rotary Club 7:00 AM: Meeting called to order by President Larry Horton Invocation: Ben Eubank Pledge of Allegiance: Corey Bruggeman Four-way Test: Kymla Eubanks (Who did a spectacular job, by the way!) DISCUSSION: 1. Larry reported on RYLA. Other than snoring roommates and a knee injury to one of the kids that required an ambulance to the Show Low hospital, it was one of the best he’s participated in! 2. Pat has had numerous discussions with Shree Krishna Dhital regarding the conditions of his village of Phoolbari, which is very near the epicenter of the earthquake in Nepal. Shree and Angella’s family have lost their home and have been staying in a tent, and the tremors have been constant. Angella is pregnant, due to deliver in a month, and has had a difficult pregnancy, so they are scared of the conditions. They have also lost their family cow, a water buffalo, and two goats. We’ve decided to raise the funds necessary to gift them a new cow - $600. Motions made, and were carried unanimously. Geoff also made the motion to put all Happy $$ toward the fund until the full amount is raised. Between direct donations and Happy $$, $300.00 was raised this morning! 3. Larry also discussed the trip to Rocky Point with members of CXR to visit the orphanage, and help out at the thrift store across the street. The donated items that are sold provide the funds to help support the orphanage. Great job… so proud of this club! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cv52NokeT4&feature=youtu.be 4. Karen briefly discussed the Rotary Leadership Conference held last Saturday. The last half of the meeting was focused specifically on new membership and ways to grow our clubs. Frankly… TRS and CXR are already doing many, many of these things. One new item is that there is a renewed focus on Business Networking. Where this was once frowned upon, it is now embraced! This is a very good thing, and will be an added benefit to all members. HAPPY $$  

Kent happy that Ben came to the Laird School 50th Anniversary event. It turned out really nice, and he has the time capsule for TRS just about ready to go. In four of the five years he’s had kindergartners all of the kids have met their benchmarks, so the school is keeping him for yet another year.  Kymla is glad to have met us all, and extended an invitation to a Minder Binder’s social/happy hour with Tempe Downtown this evening at 5:00 PM. She joined rotary for the service projects.. and welcomed us to visit their club too.. Tempe Downtown meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 6:15 PM, at Macayo’s Depot Cantina. Geoff has been working on scraping the popcorn off of his 19’ ceiling (by himself), and just finished the project. Ben’s granddaughter was just baptized… really nice. Their church makes it a very special day.

 

Karen’s oldest daughter just celebrated her birthday… she’s in denial about how old her kids are. ‘Nuff said about that! We’re sure that Pat, Larry, and Corey are also very happy about stuff, but we ran out of time to hear why! (You guys should go first next time!)
