The club was established in 1986 and is now 95 members strong. http://www.lajollagtrotary.org They’ve done some very impressive projects which include a school built in Afghanistan. Brett is in town on business, and stopped in to do a make-up session. Welcome Brett!
DISCUSSION 1. Pat shared two new flags… one for Military Appreciation Day that Honors and Remembers fallen military, and the other for fallen police officers. These are great Pat! 2. A date has been tentatively set for our next Military Appreciation Day of June 18th, 2015. 3. Charter Night! It's that time, and it's going to be great! Please plan to attend.. Saturday, June 20th, 2015. When and where still to be decided. Not only will this be a celebration of new officers, but we will be celebrating 100% Paul Harris Fellows for our club(s), AND it will also be Tempe Rio Salado's 25th club anniversary! 4. Larry held up the new T-Shirt designed by CXR. At $20 each these shirts call to attention both club's awesomeness (to coin a phrase I may have heard from our Pres.), and sales will help raise funds for the club.
Happy $$
ONLY $20 (Bald guy and sunglasses not included)
Geoff’s mother in law is visiting and he’s “happy she’s alive”. Will not be here for the next two weeks, as he’ll be snipe hunting at Camp Gitchee Gumee on the shore of historic Lake Eubank.
Karen put in an IOU $3.00. Has some sad $$ for Steve’s stepdad who is 95 and expected to survive another 30 days at best. Daughter has moved into her own place (yay!), and Steve celebrated his birthday on Tuesday. He got a yummy dinner and a homemade Red Velvet Lava Cake for dessert.
Brett’s youngest is graduating High School and now he’ll have two kids in college!
Corey took Patti to Wrights Restaurant for a belated Mother’s Day Dinner (taking advantage of Restaurant Week). New client for security system got broken into a week after he gave her a quote.
Ben happy that Paul Harris will be completed today. Dona is heading to South Africa with their church to work with Aides orphans… someone apparently lost her Visa which gains her entry into the Aides camp. Working feverishly to get it corrected. Ben plans on having the house redecorated in nice brown and orange tones while she’s gone.
Pat is happy Geoff will be gone next week. LOL
Larry was probably happy about something, but we will never know because our secretary, Karen, had to use the restroom and asked Sibil to take notes while she was gone. Naturally, Sibil didn’t take any notes! Next time Karen has to delegate, I hope she asks Linda or Dianna. They are much more responsible.
Ben discovers that it is possible to overdose on bacon!
Have a great week everyone!
President Larry Horton and President Elect Geoff Pashkowski display our new “Honor and Remember flag.
Men and women have been serving in the United States military and dying for their country for more than 200 years. They represent a unique and distinct category of individuals, along with the families that sent them, that deserve a symbol of recognition, a visual emblem of honor. Until the Honor and Remember Flag was conceived, there was no such nationally recognized symbol The Honor and Remember Flag's design is distinctive, yet simple. Each detail on the flag symbolizes an important part of the overall meaning of the flags message. The Red Field represents the blood spilled by brave men and women in America's military throughout our history, who willingly gave their lives so that we all would remain free. The Blue Star represents active service in military conflict. This symbol originated with World War I, but on this flag it signifies service through all generations from the American Revolution to present day. The White Border surrounding the gold star recognizes the purity of sacrifice. There is no greater price an American can pay than to give his or her life in service to our country. The Gold Star signifies the ultimate sacrifice of a warrior in active service who will not return home. Gold reflects the value of the life that was given. The Folded Flag signifies the final tribute to an individual life that a family sacrificed and gave to the nation. The Flame is an eternal reminder of the spirit that has departed this life yet burns on in the memory of all who knew and loved the fallen hero.

Toto, I've a feeling we're not in La Jolla any more.
President Larry attempts to prove to our guest from La Jolla that we really are a Rotary Club. "See, we even have a bell with our name on it!"

BLACK RAINSTORM
I just received a notice from one of our Rotarian Facebook friends, Carl Yuen from the Rotary Club of Hong Kong. I found it both unusual and interesting, as I had never before heard of this weather designation. What Carl sent was the following: “26.05.2015 - DEAR ROTARIAN - with Regret, today's weekly Rotary Club of Hong Kong meeting is cancelled due to the BLACK RAINSTORM warning. Please pass this message on to any Rotarians you know who have signed up for our lunch. MANY THANKS.” How many of you know what a “Black Rainstorm” is? I didn’t, so I looked it up. It is the most severe weather warning issued by the weather bureau in Hong Kong. It indicates that very heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally exceeding 2.75 inches in an hour, and is likely to continue.
When the BLACK signal is issued, Hong Kong will come to a complete standstill. Schools will not dismiss students unless there is a visible risk to staying at school, and everyone is recommended to seek shelter immediately. Buses and other forms of public transport may be halted after a while to allow commuters to go home, depending on demand and the level of risk along the route. Meanwhile back here in the Valley of the Sun, we average 330 days of sunshine per year and receive an average annual total rainfall at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is 7 inches. the massive earthquake in April 25, 2015 left many houses cracked, people have started SHREE After demolishing these houses. Those houses which are still usable after throwing the upper stairs are

kept to store food and other goods. People are not confidence in the’ security of the transitional houses we are building (Security in regard to thieves). They are separating the useful wood frames, doors, windows, stones, bricks from the broken houses for later use. Demolishing is important since children in the village play around the houses and the house may fall anytime during monsoon which is about to start in 2 weeks. We ran a Health Camp in my small village, Phoolbari, Nepal 23 May, 2015. More than 250 people were checked up for general diseases with more than 50 kids counselled for mental trauma caused by the recent earthquake. Mostly the old people, women and children were targeted in the camp.
