Le moindre bibelot chiné chez les meilleurs antiquaires est une œuvre d‘art. Car notre propos consiste à vous faire vivre ici des moments d’exception. Il s’agit de vous surprendre à chaque instant.

Pour ce faire, mes collaborateurs et moi-même restons attentifs, à l’écoute de vos moindres désirs.

Nous souhaitons que La Bastide de Gordes devienne une destination de rêve à part entière. L’hôtellerie est une passion depuis fort longtemps. J’avais 16 ans lorsque je suis entrée dans l’hôtel des Princes à Edimbourg et, en découvrant ce palais fastueux, magique, je me suis dit « Un jour, je ferai ce métier ».

The hotel business has been a passion for me for a very long time. I was 16 when I entered the Princes Hotel in Edinburgh and, when I discovered this superb, magical palace, I said to myself “One day, this is the profession I’ll do“.

QU’APPRÉCIEZ-VOUS LE PLUS DANS VOTRE PROFESSION ?

WHAT ASPECT IN YOUR PROFESSION DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST?

Tout ! On passe d’une action à l’autre avec une agilité extraordinaire.

Il faut gérer l’établissement, s’occuper des clients, être à l’écoute du personnel… Il n’y a pas une minute d’ennui. Et les moments calmes permettent de réfléchir, d’avoir des idées. Ils ne sont jamais vides.

QUELLES SONT SELON VOUS LES PRINCIPALES QUALITÉS D’UN MANAGER D’HÔTELS DE PRESTIGE ?

Il faut des qualités commerciales, de gestion et de manager. Un directeur ne peut pas avancer sans une équipe soudée. C’est d’une extrême importance.

QUELLE EST LA LIGNE DU GROUPE LOV HOTEL COLLECTION ? LE MOT ÉVOQUE QUELQUE CHOSE DE RARE, DE PRÉCIEUX… Exactement. Il s’agit d’un joli écrin dans lequel on essaie de collectionner de jolis joyaux intemporels que l’on choisit avec le plus grand soin.

Every one! You go from one job to another with great agility. You have to manage the establishment, take care of the clients, listen to the staff… You’re never bored. And the quiet moments give you time to think, to have ideas. They are never wasted.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT ARE THE MAIN QUALITIES OF A LUXURY HOTEL MANAGER? You must have administrative, commercial and managerial qualities. A manager can’t move forward without a solid team. This is extremely important.

Accrochée à flan de colline sur les remparts de Gordes, La Bastide domine la vallée des Alpilles, un paysage qui flirte avec l’infini.

Cet hôtel mythique installé dans une ancienne demeure seigneuriale du XVIème siècle est devenu une référence en matière d’excellence et d’authenticité. Une véritable légende qui se poursuit avec un nouveau look auquel a abouti une rénovation remarquable.

Une opération de haut vol menée avec le concours talentueux de plus de 150 compagnons – ébénistes, plâtriers, maçons, peintres, mosaïstes, menuisiers – pour la plupart originaires de la région. Ils ont dû jouer sur les dénivelés, tenir compte de la topographie des lieux tout en tirant le meilleur parti de cette complexité.

Conserver le charme, l’âme, de cette bâtisse unique en son genre tout en effectuant des aménagements à la pointe de la modernité, tel était l’enjeu de cette réalisation qui a nécessité un investissement colossal. Pari pleinement réussi avec un nouveau bâtiment destiné aux colloques et événements privés doté des dernières technologies, une ligne de nage longue de 25 mètres dans les jardins pour le sport, des terrasses somptueuses pour savourer une cuisine gastronomique étoilée, et un spa niché au cœur des pierres, dans les entrailles de La Bastide.

Tous les plaisirs se conjuguent ici et l’établissement continue à écrire les nouvelles pages d’un conte provençal qui n’en finit pas de séduire les visiteurs.

ANTIQUITÉS ET OBJETS D’ART POUR UN DÉCOR PRINCIER Il fallait pour décorer un établissement de cette classe les meubles, tableaux et bibelots les plus précieux. Ils ont été dénichés chez les meilleurs antiquaires parisiens, suisses ou italiens, afin de créer une harmonie à la hauteur de l’écrin qui leur sert d’abri. Rien n’a été laissé au hasard. Chaque luminaire, tapis, console ou sculpture participe à créer un décor princier et chaleureux. Une vraie demeure seigneuriale où il fait bon se détendre, se distraire et rêver.

Hanging on to the hillside on the ramparts of Gordes, La Bastide dominates over the Alpilles valley, a landscape that extends as far as the eye can see. This legendary hotel, established in a form of a 16th century seigneurial residence, has become a reference name in excellence and authenticity. A legend that perpetuates in its newly renovated form.

A remarkable renovation project undertaken with the aid of over 150 talented craftsmen - cabinet makers, plasterers, builders, painters, mosaic artists, carpenters - for the most part from the region. They had to play on the different ground levels, consider the topography while making the most of these complications.

Conserving the charm and soul of this unique building while making the necessary alterations to upgrade it to the height of modernity, such was the challenge that necessitated colossal investment. A challenge that has been successfully met with, notably, a new building designed for seminars and private events, equipped with the latest technologies, with a 25-metre lap pool in the gardens with sumptuous terraces to delight in a Michelin-starred gourmet cuisine and with a Spa nestling in its stone environment, in the heart of the Bastide.

A world of pleasures in an establishment that continues to write new chapters in its Provençal tale that invariably charms visitors.

Issu d’une famille d’hôteliers-restaurateurs de Savoie, Jean-Pierre Lerallu est passé par Les Airelles avant de prendre la direction de La Bastide de Gordes dont il a suivi toute la rénovation. Une métamorphose complète, effectuée en neuf mois, alors qu’une telle entreprise aurait nécessité un an et demi au bas mot. « Avant même le rachat de l’établissement par le groupe Lov Hotel Collection, l’histoire était écrite. Nous avons fermé en octobre 2014 pour effectuer des travaux titanesques. En juin 2015, La Bastide a rouvert ses portes, mais les ajustements continuent. L’an prochain le spa sera rénové. Cette année, la piscine des enfants créera la nouveauté. Un plus pour accueillir les familles ». La Bastide offre à vivre un cocktail d’expériences multiples, qu’il s’agisse de boire un verre au coin du feu, de goûter les mets raffinés du chef étoilé Pierre Gagnaire, de plonger avec délice dans la ligne de nage ou dans l’univers ouaté du spa Sisley.

Mais le directeur veut aller plus loin encore : « Il faut aller au-delà des attentes du client, l’étonner, le combler d’attentions. Ma famille m’a donné le goût du travail bien fait. Il ne faut jamais tricher. Je me souviens de la moue indignée de mon père lorsqu’il désignait certains établissements en disant “Ce sont des mercenaires de la restauration.” Ici tout est fait maison et le plus souvent sur-mesure… ».

Un seul credo, sentir les besoins, les envies des clients et les satisfaire par un service chic et discret.

JEAN-PIERRE LERALLU LE GOÛT DE L’EXCELLENCE > THE TASTE OF EXCELLENCE

Born into a family of hotel-restaurant owners in the Savoie, Jean-Pierre Lerallu worked as Assistant Manager at “Les Airelles” before taking on the management of La Bastide de Gordes, being present throughout its renovation works. A complete metamorphosis over the space of nine months whereas such an enterprise would have needed one and a half years at a minimum. “Before the establishment was even purchased by the Lov Hotel Collection group, the new chapter had been written. We closed in October 2014 to commence the huge-scale renovation works. In June 2015, La Bastide reopened its doors although alterations continue. Next year, the Spa will be renovated. This year, the children’s pool will be the exciting novelty. A great asset for families”. La Bastide offers a whole cocktail of experiences, whether it’s enjoying a drink by the fire, tasting the refined cuisine of the Michelin-starred chef Pierre Gagnaire, diving with delight into the lap pool or plunging into the cocoon of the Spa Sisley. But the manager wishes to go even further: “We must go beyond our clients’ expectations, surprise them, indulge them. My family gave me the taste of work well done. One must never cheat. I remember my father’s frown when he mentioned certain establishments saying “They are the mercenaries of catering”. Here, everything is homemade and very often tailor-made…”. One sole credo, to feel the needs and wishes of the clients and to fulfil them with a chic and discreet service. Real class.

Allier le prestige d’un musée et la chaleur d’une maison familiale, voilà qui ne va pas de soi. Pourtant, La Bastide de Gordes a réussi ce pari : accueillir ses hôtes dans un palais meublé de tableaux et bibelots précieux, tout en leur donnant l’impression d’arriver chez quelque cousin fortuné et inspiré. Pour ce faire, il fallut des trésors d’imagination afin que chaque chambre ou suite ait sa propre personnalité, son âme.

Meubles dénichés chez des antiquaires prestigieux, objets d’art, peintures, sculptures et luminaires, tout a été pensé et choisi avec soin afin de créer une atmosphère unique.

Au coin d’une cheminée, confortablement assis dans un fauteuil face à une bibliothèque d’ouvrages rares ou dans un petit salon avec secrétaire sous alcôve, on goûte un confort hédoniste où tout concourt à détendre le corps et l’esprit. C’est dans cette ambiance réconfortante et intime que l’on se ressource lors d’un séjour à La Bastide.

Tissus indiens, cretonnes typiques de la région ou toiles de Jouy bucoliques constituent l’écrin dans lequel céramiques, peintures et consoles s’épanouissent. Au sol, tapis anciens et parquets massifs complètent l’ensemble. Une autre chambre est ornée de boiseries raffinées, de frises murales et d’un sol en terre cuite. Une troisième s’épanouit sous des guirlandes de fleurs et peintures, véritable coffre-fort pour des objets rares rapportés de voyages par-delà les mers et océans.

Dans les salles de bain, les carreaux en ciment posés au sol datent du XIXème siècle et sont parfois recouverts de fresques évoquant des paysages lointains et oniriques.

Combining the prestige of a museum with the warmth of a family house is not easily achieved. However, La Bastide de Gordes has done just this: to welcome its guests to a palace adorned with pictures, precious objects while giving them the impression of arriving at a rich and inspired cousin’s house. To accomplish this, imaginative treasures give each room or suite its very own personality and soul.

Furniture found in prestigious antique shops, art objects, paintings, sculptures and luminaries… Everything has been designed and each decorative object chosen with great care to create a unique atmosphere.

Sitting by the fireplace in a comfortable armchair, opposite a library full of rare books, or in the small lounge furnished with a desk nestling in an alcove, enjoy a pleasurable moment where everything contributes to being relaxed in body and mind. It’s in this serene and intimate atmosphere that you will replenish your energies during a stay at La Bastide.

Indian textiles, local cretonne cloth or bucolic Jouy fabrics welcome guests to their haven, further enhanced by ceramics, paintings and console tables. On the floor, antique rugs and parquet flooring add the

final touch. In another room you’ll find fine woodwork, wall friezes and terra cotta flooring. A third is decorated in floral garlands and paintings, a pure showcase for rare objects brought back from distant travels.

In the bathrooms, 19th century tiles adorn the floors, some of which are decorated with frescoes, again evocative of distant and heavenly landscapes.

CHRISTOPHE TOLLEMER DÉCORATION PASSION > PASSION FOR DECORATION

Donner l’impression aux visiteurs d’entrer dans la demeure de quelques aristocrates esthètes. Tel était l’objectif d’une rénovation qui a nécessité des travaux de grande envergure. Christophe Tollemer a accompli l’impossible.

His aim was for visitors to have the impression of entering the residence of refined aristocrats. To achieve this, massive renovation works were required. Christophe Tollemer did the impossible.

WHAT WERE THE MAJOR PROBLEMS IN THIS PROJECT? QUELLES ÉTAIENT LES DIFFICULTÉS MAJEURES DE CE CHANTIER ?

Nous étions confrontés à des problèmes de circulation. Les bâtiments n’étaient pas reliés entre eux. Il a fallu creuser dans la roche pour créer un escalier de maître majestueux donnant l’impression de pénétrer dans une maison ancienne.

À L’INTÉRIEUR, COMMENT AVEZ-VOUS PROCÉDÉ POUR RESPECTER L’ÂME DE LA BASTIDE ?

L’ARCHITECTE D’INTÉRIEUR A ACCOMPLI UN TRAVAIL TITANESQUE À LA BASTIDE : « L’UN DES CHANTIERS LES PLUS FABULEUX DE MA CARRIÈRE ».

DANS LE RESPECT ABSOLU DES CODES DU XVIIIÈME SIÈCLE. THE INTERIOR ARCHITECT HAS ACCOMPLISHED A COLOSSAL FEAT AT LA BASTIDE: “ONE OF THE MOST FABULOUS PROJECTS OF MY CAREER”.

Nous avons choisi des boiseries dans des tons de rouge, vert et beige et des teintures proches de celles en vogue au XVIIIème siècle. Tous les meubles et objets sont d’époque. Chaque tableau, chaque meuble (souvent estampillé), chaque bibelot est authentique. Toutes les pièces ont été chinées chez les antiquaires les plus prestigieux. We were confronted with connective problems. The buildings were not linked together. We had to dig into the rock to create a majestic staircase to give the impression of entering an ancient house.

INSIDE, HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO PRESERVE THE SOUL OF LA BASTIDE? We chose wood panelling in tones of red, green and beige and drapes similar to those in fashion in the 18th century. All the furniture and objects date from this period. Each picture, piece of furniture (often signed) and object is genuine. Everything was found at the most prestigious antique dealers. The smallest detail had to be respected to enable guests to escape their daily life, to dream, thanks to the magic of the objects. Thus, the TV screens are totally invisible in the guest rooms.

Incorporated into mirrors, they come as a surprise to every visitor…

YOUR PROFESSION WAS BORN FROM A PASSION… A passion that goes back a long way! Already at primary school, I used to draw house interiors, for which I was inevitably told off… But the real click came when, at 10 years old, I visited the Maeght Foundation, where I discovered a Calder at the entrance to the gardens.

Vous est-il déjà arrivé de goûter un généreux blanc du Lubéron en lisant quelques vers de Ronsard ? Le restaurant gastronomique de Pierre Gagnaire Chez Péir, auréolé d’une étoile Michelin (dans l’attente d’un deuxième macaron), se démarque par le choix de tables espacées. Une vingtaine de couverts, pas davantage, afin que chaque convive ait l’impression d’être chez lui, dans son intimité. D’autant que les tables sont dressées avec un soin sans égal. Côté cuisine, le chef rend un hommage appuyé à la véritable gastronomie provençale en mettant à l’honneur artichauts poivrades crus et bavarois de poivron rouge à la menthe, rougette craquante de Montpellier, petit homard bleu poché, poutargue… Un hommage inventif au terroir.

L’Orangerie, baignée de lumière et en prise directe sur la vallée et les Alpilles, s’ouvre sur un panorama de rêve. Déjeuner en plein soleil lors des journées d’été ou repli langoureux dans le jardin d’hiver d’où la vue est intacte.

Un petit olivier sur chaque table, des fleurs partout, un mobilier de jardin sophistiqué et confortable, le décor est planté pour découvrir les saveurs chantantes de la Provence.

Il a fait ses classes au Puits Saint-Jacques dans le Gers, puis chez Régis Marcon, en HauteLoire, avant de rejoindre Pierre Gagnaire au Balzac, à Paris. Depuis l’an dernier Léo Forget dirige les cuisines du restaurant étoilé de La Bastide de Gordes. Pour lui, la gastronomie est une passion, un perpétuel recommencement. « Après un bac en technologies et sciences industrielles, j’ai décidé de changer de voie et de faire ce que j’aimais depuis l’adolescence, lorsque je concoctais des petits plats pour les copains… ». Aujourd’hui, il forme avec son responsable de salle, Romain Grenet, un parfait binôme au service d’une grande maison. « Pour moi, ce qui démarque Pierre Gagnaire c’est son génie créatif. Il a la faculté de penser les goûts et d’élaborer des mets nouveaux qui ne déçoivent jamais. » À La Bastide, la région est à l’honneur avec des saveurs et des textures que l’on ne retrouve nulle part ailleurs. Comme ce mélange d’épices « ocre Roussillon » à base de curry, paprika et poudre de fraises, ou ces petits artichauts que l’on sert avec une crème d’amandes amères et de la menthe fraîche. Since last year, Léo Forget has been at the helm of the Michelin-starred kitchens of La Bastide de Gordes. For him, gastronomy is a passion, a perpetual renewal.

“After a baccalaureate in industrial sciences and technologies, I decided to change path and do what I had always loved since adolescence, when I used to concoct little dishes for friends…”. Today, along with his head waiter, Romain Grenet, he forms a perfect team offering a very high level of service. “For me, what characterises Pierre Gagnaire is his creative genius.

He has the capacity of imagining tastes and creating new dishes that never disappoint”.

At La Bastide, tribute is paid to the region with flavours and textures that you will find nowhere else, such as his “Ocre Roussillon” spice mix of curry, paprika and strawberry powder, or his baby artichokes served with bitter almond cream and fresh mint… Direct communion with Provence and its colours.

« Les gens consomment moins et mieux, et les vignerons du Luberon se sont adaptés à cette tendance en produisant des vins de qualité ». Ayant élu domicile depuis plus de douze ans dans les caves prestigieuses de la Bastide, Pascal Vincent est tombé amoureux du Luberon après une brillante carrière parisienne (Maxim’s, le restaurant Le Jules Verne de la Tour Eiffel, les Caves Taillevent…). Avec une carte de 800 références le choix est vaste, mais le sommelier aime conseiller des vins de la région.

Rouges, blancs ou rosés, ils sont nés d’une terre légère et sablonneuse qui donne aux cépages une expression toute particulière.

Une cinquantaine de vignerons se partagent le Luberon et le Ventoux. « Le Luberon sud produit des vins puissants, chauds et aromatiques, quand le Nord - où les vignes bénéficient d’une ombre fraîche - produit des flacons plus élégants et fins ».

Dès le printemps, les clients choisissent de découvrir les rosés de Provence. « Aujourd’hui, il existe une vraie culture du rosé. Je suis devenu véritablement amateur.

C’est un vin d’été, de détente, de transat… ».

Un verre à la main sur la terrasse de La Bastide, face à un panorama de rêve, on accède alors à un avant-goût du paradis.

Pascal Vincent, who has been working in the prestigious wine cellars of the Bastide for over twelve years, fell in love with the Luberon after a brilliant career in Paris (Maxim’s, the Jules Verne restaurant in the Eiffel Tower, the Caves Taillevent…). With a list of 800 wine references, the choice is vast but the sommelier particularly enjoys suggesting regional wines. Reds, whites and rosés from the light and sandy soil which gives a very particular flavour to the grapes.

Around fifty vintners cultivate in the Luberon and Ventoux area. “South Luberon produces powerful, warm and aromatic wines, whereas the North, where the vineyards benefit from cool shade, produces more elegant and delicate flavours“.

As of Spring, clients often opt for Provence rosés. “Today, there is a real rosé culture. I have become a real enthusiast. It’s a summer wine, conducive to relaxation, lounging in the sun…“. A glass in hand on the terrace of the Bastide, facing a dream landscape, you get a foretaste of paradise.

MÉDITER À L’ABBAYE DE SÉNANQUE Joyau de l’architecture cistercienne, l’Abbaye de Sénanque loge au creux d’un vallon où coule la Sénancole. Fondé en 1148, ce monastère aujourd’hui prieuré de l’Abbaye de Lérins, offre une vision magique, surtout l’été dans le décor mauve des lavandes. D’un style roman très sobre, l’abbatiale peut se visiter tout comme le dortoir des moines, le cloître et la salle capitulaire où les religieux se réunissaient autrefois pour commenter les Écritures.

MEDITATING IN THE SÉNANQUE ABBEY This gem of Cistercian architecture sits at the bottom of a valley in which the Sénancole river flows. Founded in 1148, the monastery, which today is Priory to the Lérins Abbey, affords a magical view, particularly in summer, in its mauve decor of lavender. ACTUALITÉS > NEWS VASARELY CHEZ LUI, À GORDES Le Château de Gordes fut pour Victor Vasarely le lieu des premiers emballements. C’est ici qu’il y trouva l’inspiration. En 1970, un musée est inauguré à Gordes, mais en 1996, il a été déménagé dans un bâtiment neuf implanté à Aix-enProvence et géré depuis par la Fondation Vasarely. Pour les 110 ans de la naissance de l’artiste, une rétrospective se tient au château dans le cadre de l’exposition triptyque MultipliCité (d’Avignon à Gordes en passant par Aix-en-Provence).

VASARELY AT HOME IN GORDES The sumptuous Château de Gordes was a remarkable source of inspiration for Victor Vasarely. In 1970, a museum was inaugurated in Gordes, which in 1996 was moved to a new building in Aix-en-Provence and later managed by the Vasarely Foundation. For the 110th anniversary of the birth of the artist, a retrospective is being held at the Château with a MultipliCité triptych exhibition being held in Avignon, Gordes and Aix-en-Provence, running through to 2 October.

It all began with a love story between a family and a region. Following the Second World War, Joseph Rosier discovered the hilltop village of Gordes, a refuge for wellknown artists such as Chagall and Vasarely, where he bought a property. After spending his holidays during his childhood there,

his son Christian-Jacques created GORDES IMMOBILIER estate agency in 1970. He developed a real estate network known for its ethics and professionalism. His sons Jean-Christophe and Jean-Marc took over the management of the agency, renamed ROSIER, in 2008. Boosted by their experiences abroad, they modernised the agency with regards to both the property sales and seasonal rentals sectors. They brought together a multi-cultural team and developed a network of partner agencies in several countries to satisfy both French and foreign clientele wishing to settle in Provence.

Il était une fois un général français, né à Saint-Tropez, survivant de Waterloo, arrivé en Inde et tombé sous le charme d’une très jeune princesse, Bannu Pan Deï. Pour elle, qui devint son épouse, le général fit bâtir une bâtisse provençale au cœur de son village.

Cette maison ressemble aujourd’hui à un palais des mille et une nuits. Le Pan Deï reçoit des hôtes séduits par sa décoration suave et exotique, enthousiasmés par les couleurs, les parfums et les saveurs rares qu’ils goûtent ici dans un cadre d’un raffinement extrême.

Le restaurant affirme une personnalité particulièrement originale dans la cité du Bailli.

Le chef Renaud Capelle se plaît à célébrer les noces d’épices venues de loin et de produits du terroir savamment sélectionnés.

Cadre idyllique et service attentionné pour des gourmets découvrant avec ravissement des mets inédits. La grande spécialité de la maison, l’émincé de bœuf « larmes du

tigre », s’inspire d’une recette thaïlandaise. Il s’agit d’un filet de boeuf mariné dans de l’alcool selon une technique ancestrale. Mais ici, le cognac remplace le saké. En entrée, la raviole de crevettes étonne par sa légèreté.

La daurade cuite à la vapeur en feuilles de bananier s’accommode d’une crème de coco onctueuse aux senteurs de citronnelle et de gingembre. On en devine par transparence le contenu. En fait, chaque plat surprend, se contemple et se déguste. Une fête pour les yeux comme pour le palais.

Once upon a time a French general, born in Saint-Tropez, a survivor of Waterloo, arrived in India and fell under the charm of a very young princess, Bannu Pan Deï. For her, who became his wife, the General had a Provençal house built in the heart of his village. Today, this house resembles a palace of the one thousand and one nights. Pan Deï welcomes its guests, enthralled by its deli-

cate and exotic decoration, thrilled by the colours, fragrances and unusual flavours they taste in a setting of unrivalled elegance.

The restaurant stands out in Saint-Tropez for its originality. The chef Renaud Capelle enjoys blending spices from distant lands with carefully selected local produce. The idyllic setting and attentive service will delight gourmets who will discover exceptional dishes. The great speciality of the house is the Beef filet slices “tiger tears”, inspired by a Thai recipe, a fillet of beef marinated in alcohol according to ancestral methods. But here, cognac replaces saké.

As a starter, the delightfully light prawn raviole whose transparency lets us guess the contents. Sea bream steamed in a banana leaf, creamy coconut milk and lemongrass and ginger sauce. Indeed, each dish surprises, lends to contemplation and delights the tastebuds. A feast for the eyes and palate.
