FULL OF NEW FEATURES Powerscreen unveils their new 1150 MaxtrakTM cone crusher. Crush Ltd has been putting the 1150 Maxtrak cone crusher through its paces with extensive

testing in preparation for its launch later this year. While on site at their quarry in Wales, Crush Ltd has been primarily using the 1150 Maxtrak unit for the crushing of gritstone to produce 6mm (1/4”), 10mm (3/8”) and 14mm (9/16”) chips on final products. Ben Sherratt from Crush Ltd commented, “Typically, we had been using a crushing and screening train consisting of a jaw, two Powerscreen 1000 Maxtrak cone crushers and a Chieftain 2100X screen. TUNNELLING MARATHON Crossrail’s TBM Jessica has completed a new train tunnel from Limmo Peninsula, near Canning Town, breaking into Victoria Dock Portal in east London. The 1,000 tonne machine, named after Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill CBE, completed her 900 metre journey in just 9 weeks, travelling as far as 41 metres per day. The machine will now be dismantled, with parts returned to manufacturer Herrenknecht for use on other tunnelling projects. Jessica is 150 metres long and 7.1 metres in diameter and was staffed by teams of 20 people. Tunnel segments were made in Chatham, Kent and transported to Limmo by river barge. GIANT TUNNEL BORING MACHINE Digging work has started on the Caltanissetta tunnel in Sicily. A special event was held on the 4th June, in the presence of the Director of the National Roads & Motorways Company (Anas), to mark the first turn of the cutting head. The 15.08 m diameter earth pressure TBM, christened Barbara, was supplied by NFM Technologies for use in this project to improve the existing regional road network. The machine is expected to excavate two tubes, each of 3900 m. The completion of th dig is schedulded for the end of 2015.
