COMFORT AND EFFICIENCY The new generations of Bell B25E and B30E are now both powered by the 7.7-litre engine, OM936LA Stage IV, from Mercedes-Benz. The inline-6-cylinder is an EGR engine with minimal re-circulation of cooled exhaust gas into the combustion process. This, in

combination with the urea-based SCR after treatment system (Adblue/DEF), ensures efficient emission control without the need for diesel particulate filters (DPF). At Intermat 2015, Bell Equipment introduce a development of the adaptive suspensions to give a Comfort Ride suspension option for its smaller B25E and B30E trucks as well. Testing has shown improvement of 29% when measuring ride comfort with accelerometers. Liebherr present at Intermat 2015 in Paris, France, its new 160-tonne mobile crane LTM 1160-5.2. This crane is the successor to the LTM 1160-5.1. The load capacity of the new Liebherr has been increased by around 20-25 % compared to its predecessor whilst the telescopic boom has remained at the same length of 62 m. Approximately 400 bearings needed to be replaced on the Sadabad Viaduct while the road remained continuously open to traffic. Even though there is no European obligation on the use of concrete for tunnel pavements, several road authorities are aware of these benefits. Recently, two

road and tunnel sections have been put in service in Italy. The first one is the tunnel in Laives, 2,858 m long, in the province of Bolzano in Italy. It was opened to traffic on 21st December 2013 and is part of the bypass road between Bronzolo and Bolzano. Up to 70 % of the section is built underground with a total tunnel length of 9 km. The pavement, projected by EUT engineering, consists of double layered concrete slabs with dowelled joints and a fine exposed aggregate surface. Pilosio has won an order worth around 1.5 million euros with the construction company CMC of Ravenna. Indeed, Durban, South Africa, in the KwaZulu-Natal province, is where Pilosio’s scaffolding and formwork have been supplied, in order to provide the Ravenna company with the equipment it requires for the construction of an important motorway junction, called the N2-M41 Mount Edgecombe Interchange. In detail, Pilosio’s structures, 70% of which will be tailor-made specifically for this job, assist in the construction of two imposing viaducts created with the “casting” system, thereby avoiding any interference with the traffic below. The dimensions will be 26 metres high by 947 metres long, and 18 metres by 443. Once finished, the first will be the longest in the entire country. In total, the financial value of the works to be carried out on site by the Italian company CMC amounts to 83 million euros. Pilosio is supplying 200 square metres of P300 formwork for foundations and trusses, 500 square metres of special steel formwork divided into five sets for the construction of the viaducts' pile shafts, an additional 350 square metres of special steel formwork

Crossrail’s 1,000 tonnes tunnel machine Victoria broke into Liverpool Street station. Over 40km out of 42km of Crossrail train tunnels are now constructed. Crossrail tunnelling will conclude in spring 2015. Countdown to end of tunnelling will shortly begin when Victoria’s sister machine, Elizabeth, starts final journey from Liverpool Street to Farringdon Tunnel. Machine Victoria, named after Queen Victoria who oversaw the birth of modern railways, has successfully broken in to the eastern end of

Liverpool Street Crossrail station. The breakthrough, 40m beneath the City of London, is part of Crossrail’s longest tunnel drive, 8.3km from Limmo Peninsula, near Canning Town, to Farringdon. Victoria now has 750m of tunnel to bore, before arriving at her final destination at Farringdon station this spring. Victoria has joined her sister machine Elizabeth at Liverpool Street who arrived in January. The works provide for the completion of the building, including all station and railway systems. The Client is Italferr SpA (Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group) and the funds are already available. The works are scheduled to begin after the signing of the contract, with a duration equal to about two years. The new railway station is designed by Architect Zaha Hadid. Another project announced: eur 52 million for the dredging works in the Port of Taranto (Italy). The works are part of the plan, launched by the port authority, to modernize the container terminal area and will interest the section of –

sea in front of the pier of the multisector wharf: the bottom deepened by more than 2.5 metres, and the contaminated sediments reclaimed. The construction works will start in the short-term and are expected to last about one year.
