Kia ora Koutou, This week I have had the pleasure of attending the Secondary Schools Principal’s Conference in Blenheim. A huge thank you to Deputy Principal Jo Sturme for stepping in as Acting Principal. The school was in very safe hands. Well done to our students, who attended the Isport Foundation “Connecting to Character” Youth Leadership Day on 28 May in Rotorua. A total of 51 schools were chosen and approximately 700 students attended the iSPORT Foundation Leadership Day. A star packed event with Richie McCaw, Dan Carter, Willie Apiata, Honey HiremeSmiler and Les Elder the guests of honour. Our students were thrilled to meet our NZ stars and even had the chance to join workshops with them! Such a fantastic day for our students – they did us proud! Our competitive challenges assembly was this week. A tight and exciting game of football between our Houses. Well done to all our students. As always, a big thank you to our Heads of House for putting in the hard work in organizing these events. Our sports teams had a very busy week this week with our Rock Climbing team competing in the BOP Secondary School Champs. Our swimmers showed their formidable talent at Taupo XLR8 meet last weekend with 2 gold, one silver and 1 bronze medal wins. Another win for our 2nd Girls Hockey team and our Girls Football Team, who had their first win! Well done. Our Girls Rugby had their first competition game against JPC this week and played an awesome game. Our Boys Hockey team are always consistent and had a great game this week against top of the table Taupo nui a Tia. It is also fantastic to see our Netball Team and our Squash Team have so many wins! (For all details and results please see pages 5 – 7). We have an extra day to look forward to this weekend. Have a great Monday off and enjoy the break. Ngā mihi

___________________________________________________________________________ YEAR 12 ENGLISH At the moment all Year 12 English students are working on their research A/S 91105 Use information Literacy Skills to form Developed Conclusions. This standard is important as it is worth 4 University Entrance Reading credits. Students can access the David Schaumann NCEA Flipped Classrooms to assist them with this standard. The videos offer some very good advice on how to break down the English standards. To enter this site, they need to ask their English teacher for the access code.

SPORT ___________________________________________________________________________ BOYS 1ST HOCKEY What a night it was in mild Taupo. The Boys travelled to verse top of the table Taupo nui a Tia. The Boys showed what they were made of and played the best game of the season yet. With strong and clever defensive play, and determination to attack we certainly rocked the opposition. 1-1 at half time, after an equalising goal by Jayden Fraser, was a fair score for 30 mins of strong play. The second half was no different but unfortunately a couple of calls against us allowed the opposition to score a further two goals. We come away from that game knowing it's all coming together due to the hard work by the team and superb coaching by Kieran King . Well done Boys! Player

of the Day - Jamaallulah Abdul Rahman. ___________________________________________________________________________ ROCK CLIMBING On Friday 28 May, we sent a small team of climbers to compete in the BOP Secondary Schools Championships at Rocktopia, Mt Maunganui. Although no podium finishes, our climbers all did very well in a very competitive competition. Our fabulous climbers were: Liddy Zuidmeer Tomas Zuidmeer Velko Trifonov Kaspa Grunwell Huge thanks to Aly Bennett for taking our team over and helping at the event😊

A cold night and a tough game with some people away sick and only one sub but the girls played well. Goals by Harriette Davies, Ashleigh Randell, and Kyara Sassenburg. Player of

The Day - Poppy Croucher. ___________________________________________________________________________ GIRLS FOOTBALL Great game on Wednesday with our Girls Football Team. We played Rotorua Girls High - final score was 2 to 1 win to Lakes! Goal scorers for Lakes were Miyume Ueno and

Olly Garrood. Players of the Day were 3 defence players

Kya Stuart, Capryce Proctor and Milla Phipps. Well done to the team.

___________________________________________________________________________ GIRLS RUGBY On Monday 31 May our Girls Rugby team went to JPC to play their first competition game. The girls were a bit nervous but once the whistle blew they were into it! With strong tackling from all the girls but in particular Teneka Huriwai, Genesis Huriwai and Marae Paul. This led to our first try to Genesis with great turnover ball and good service from half back Dylan Guptill. Other try scorers were Maraea Dewes-Green,

Aliah Manuel, Tiraha Karakia, Dylan Guptill (2), Genesis Huriwai (3), Phoenix Andrews and 2 conversions to Manawai Gates. It was a great game from both teams with great sideline support from our parents, nanny’s and koro and fellow students. Final score to Lakes 47-22
