RNS MISSION The Rheumatology Nurses Society is a professional organization committed to the development and education of nurses to benefit its members, patients, family and community.
RNS VISION Our vision is to lead nurses to excellence in the care of patients with rheumatologic diseases.
PRESIDENT’S WELCOME Welcome to the 2022 Virtual Spring Summit for the Rheumatology Nurses Society (RNS). I know many of us are eagerly awaiting the evidence of spring with blooming flowers and warmer days, but the calendar says spring is here, and so is the greatly anticipated RNS Spring Summit. I am in awe at how fast time seems to be flying! On top of that, in just a few short months, we will all be together again, IN PERSON, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the RNS, in the sunny state of Florida! I trust you are as thrilled as I am about that, however, I will discuss that more during the Spring Summit. The RNS Board of Directors and I are so happy that you are joining us now, as we have an incredible Summit planned for you this weekend. The mission of the RNS is “Committed to the development and education of nurses to benefit its members, patients, family and community.” I can testify to that. It was the comprehensive wealth of education that the RNS has provided, since the very beginning that attracted me to this wonderful Society. I had been working at a rheumatology practice for around five years after nursing school, and still did not feel as confident in this specialty as I had desired. At many times, the process seemed overwhelming to me. It was during that time that I had been invited to a local RNS event, which I attended. It was intriguing to me to hear colleagues confidently discuss the very thing that I dealt with every day. I curiously ventured out to my first RNS Annual Conference, which quickly illuminated to me how vast the field of rheumatology is. I was welcomed instantly by other extraordinary healthcare professionals, and immediately gained new friends, resourceful information, and a confidence in my specialty that had been previously lacking. Suddenly, I did not feel alone in my journey in rheumatology nursing. I had not only found a new passion for my career—I had found my calling, my place, my home. I finally began to believe that I could actually make a difference in my practice and in the lives of my patients that I cared for daily. The RNS Board of Directors and I truly hope that you will find what you are looking for here, and more, within this stellar association, known as the “Rheumatology Nurses Society.” The theme for the 2022 Virtual Spring Summit is focused on patient-centered care, and equipping YOU to be the resource that they need through their difficult times. The patients that we care for expand broadly from the newly-diagnosed, scared, fearful, and possibly resistant, over to the confused, frustrated, and sadly, the weary and hopeless. The one thing that unites them, whether a new patient, or a fatigued veteran battling multiple rheumatic diseases, is their desperate quest for relief, answers, and a plea to be understood. Our goal during this summit, is to equip you to not only confidently care for your patients with excellence, but also to compassionately advocate for them with the knowledge our patients and their families are in desperate search for in order to advance forward with their lives, and pass on to them a hope that they previously did not have. Empower your patients with the possibility of living once again. Dare them to dream about their possibilities. Simply put, just enable them to understand and to be understood. That is what this Summit is about—Empowering you, so you can empower them. We have brought in outstanding faculty to share the latest treatments, research, and evidence-based education for this extraordinary Summit. I am so glad that you are here. It is such an honor to serve you as your President of this incredible Society!
