Robert, the younger of two boys grew up in and around Perth, Western Australia. As a smart young man, he wasn’t much different to many aspiring university students of his day. His sharp mind was soon noticed by his peers and lecturers and after completing his degree in Social Work, he worked for a period of time within the Catholic Church. Robert Rushford’s sense of empathy was spiked during this period and to this day his commitment to working with those less fortunate, those who cannot speak for themselves and those in business who need strategies to get their business on track still holds strong. Background: Rob holds Bachelor degrees in Social Work from Curtin and a Bachelor of Law from Bond University. Robert Rushford left the welfare sector in 1983 and entered corporate life with IBM – holding senior positions at IBM Australia and IBM Global Finance. Once again, it didn’t take long for Robert Rushford to be noticed and it seemed the world was unfolding in ways he had not dreamed possible. Despite being offered a senior role in IBM he decided in 1991 to leave to complete a degree in law. His interest was keen and his insatiable appetite for work resulted in what follows. After his law degree, Robert Rushford set ahead to run his own business interests in diverse and challenging roles. He also set up a successful commercial law practice in 1995 going on to participate in much of Melbourne’s property boom during the late 90’s and early 2000’s, before selling out in 2004. Robert doesn’t stand still for long and sees opportunity in things others walk right past. He has a talent in assessing and analysing business models and this makes him a very sought-after commodity in the business sector. During the next decade he joined forces with school friend Craig Martin and established a network of retail businesses championing the solar power revolution. Concentrating on opportunities in rural NSW and Victoria saw rapid growth during this period.
His current business ventures include “Release My Super”, “Rushford Matheson Advisory”, ethical financiers “Caveat Busters” & “Cambridge Finance” and drug and alcohol rehabilitation referral service, “Broken Ladder”. All of these operations offer a unique business model and fill a niche in their market segment. Release My Super – helps those seeking early release of superannuation savings, when life throws a curve ball. This may be due to ill health, accident, loss of employment or a multitude of events – “life’s unexpected events”. Release My Super works with the Australia Tax Office, DHS (Department of Human Services), service providers and superannuation companies in assisting applicants obtain early release of super. Rushford Matheson Advisory – A corporate advisory model working on all manner of projects in the business sector, from audit, taxation, restructuring, corporate advice and analysis. This business has a team of dedicated and knowledgeable professionals at the top of their game who assist other businesses and business owners. Caveat Busters & Cambridge Finance – Robert Rushford and his team work to assist individual and corporate borrowers who have entered the shark infested waters of high interest rate lending. The businesses work to renegotiate loans for lenders who are buckling under the high interest rates of predatory lenders. The negotiations are often complex and extremely stressful by nature. Robert Rushford is the man who makes the deals work. Broken Ladder – A private alcohol and drug rehabilitation referral service. To have walked in someone’s shoes and to have been touched by someone who is affected by addiction is really the only way to have the true empathy of what the journey for these addicts and families is all about. Robert represents many such people – people who have lost their way and without the love and support of the family they still have, would probably not be alive.
