He has been an advocate on many occasions before the court system, representing addicts and requesting the courts find leniency in sentencing – with his preference to find them a place in the system, where they can be treated by professionals who address the world of “addiction” – drugs and alcohol.
A recent case before the Magistrates Court, had Robert Rushford advocating for a pregnant lady, addicted to ice. Her parents had nowhere to turn nor the necessary training. They both, as parents wanted the best possible outcome for their daughter and future grandchild. The maze of red tape and law jargon confused and intimidated them.
Their precious daughter seemed lost to them, until Robert Rushford was able to make a case to the magistrate that Broken Ladder could assist in finding this family a place in the system where their daughter could “detox”. The public system is over-run however Robert Rushford was able to make the seemingly impossible happen.
