Guitarist Trefor Owen is one of the foremost Jazz guitarists in the UK. A highly respected teacher, he has over twenty years’ experience teaching at the highest level both in Britain and the USA. For eight of those years he was an Associate Lecturer at Leeds College of Music. Based in North Wales, he brings an ensemble of musicians from the area to play a mix of mostly jazz standards. In just over a decade of professional work award-winning jazz vocalist, lyricist and producer, Georgia Mancio, has established herself as one of the UK’s most important new artists earning the respect of audiences, musicians, promoters and critics alike with her innate musicality and subversion of expectations. Georgia returns to Swansea Jazzland with a very personal show: a tribute to her favourite jazz singer, Anita O’Day. From the stunning rhythmic virtuosity of her scat to the heartbreaking tenderness of her ballad reading, Accompanied by John Pearce on piano (who actually worked with O’Day in the 80s), Julie Walkington on bass and Dave Ohm on drums. Inspirational and eclectic pianist/keyboardist/composer Geoff Eales formed the dynamic jazz-rock fusion band Isorhthym in Autumn 2010. He handpicked four master improvisers in order to take his music forward: Ben Waghorn plays Sax, Carl Orr guitar, Fred T Baker on the bass and Asaf Sirkis at the drum kit. Mark Fletcher presents his latest creation, playing funky jazz originals and Weather Report classics. This is a new band, which is fast becoming a regular fixture at Ronnie Scott’s. Mark is one of England’s most versatile and in demand drummers. Equally at home in straight ahead jazz, free improvised music, rock and world music; Mark has been a regular at Ronnie Scott’s since the late 1980’s working with Dizzy Gillespie, Mark Murphy, Michel LeGrand, James Moody, Dave Gilmore, Tim Garland, Flora Purim, Norma Winstone, Georgie Fame, Ian Shaw, Cedar Walton, Kenny Wheeler and many more. Daryl Sherman & her band
A sparkling mainstay of Manhattan nightlife, singer/pianist Daryl Sherman is equally at home in the world of jazz and cabaret. Internationally acclaimed for a stellar 14-year run at the WaldorfAstoria, where she played Cole Porter’s Steinway! When Artie Shaw formed a new band after his retirement, Sherman was his singer of choice, calling her “a first rate singer -musician”. She has also sung with Germany’s WDR Jazz Orchestra, American Jazz Orchestra and the Spokane Jazz Orchestra in tributes to Mildred Bailey and Paul Whiteman. Nigel Hitchcock Quartet
Nigel Hitchcock first began to play the recorder at age 6. It was therefore a natural progression to the alto sax at age 8. At the age of 11, Nigel joined the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and after only a year he took the lead alto chair where he remained for 5 years, during which time the band toured with stars such as Vic Damone, Buddy Greco and Al Martino. One of the UK’s top jazz saxophonists he has returned to England after spending 7 years on the Isle of Skye. Current project include playing at the Buddy Rich 25th memorial concert at the London palladium and performing with Karl Jenkins project “the Peacemaker”. An all star quartet, not to be missed!
