Saxophonist Olivers band includes pianist Mitch Jones from Capel Hendre who is now playing for trombonist Dennis Rollins’ band. Vocalist, Kwobina Adjebong is studying at the Royal Academy and is one of the finest young singers around today, his influences are very diverse and you can hear elements of soul and Sinatra like crooners in his voice. Simon Spillett/Danny Moss Jnr Quartet
Simon Spillett is well known to Jazzland audiences with his fierce, fast blowing Tubby Hayes style of saxophone. Joining him is Danny Moss Jnr on double bass, an unashamed disciple of the great Ray Brown. Danny lives in Australia and has toured the UK regularly for many years playing with his sadly missed father, saxophonist Danny Moss. Simon Spillett has risen meteorically in the past few years to become one of the most dynamic and distinctive tenor saxophonists on the UK jazz scene. Born in San Francisco, California, USA, Susan has been singing jazz since her graduation from the University of Oregon. She began her career with the Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band in Seattle, Washington where she and the band appeared frequently throughout the Pacific Northwest as well as at jazz festivals throughout the USA and Canada. Hamish Stuart Band *Ticketed Event*
Hamish Stuart first attained international acclaim as the lead guitarist and falsetto voice of the Average White Band, one of the great self-contained Soul Funk bands of the 70s. When the band split in the 1980’s he became a much sought after guitarist and vocalist, and over the next several years worked with David Sanborn & Aretha Franklin amongst others. Most notably, in the late 80s he joined Paul McCartney’s band as guitarist for 6 years and several albums. He also wrote for a number of artists, including Atlantic Starr’s hit “If Your Heart Isn’t In It” and songs for Smokey Robinson, Jeffrey Osborne, George Benson and Diana Ross. He left the support role with McCartney to seek a belated solo career. He released his own CD “Sooner or Later” 17 years after his final AWB recording. Simon is one of a young group of rising stars on the London jazz scene and has already built up a CV that includes playing with Stan Tracey, Don Weller and the Laurence Cottle Big Band. He is currently a member of Clark Tracey’s New Quintet and is one of the most exciting improvisers around today. Martin is regarded as one of the top jazz soloists in the country; you will hear him in an extraordinary range of settings from big band to quartet, cutting edge jazz to contemporary pop and funk. After studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London he went on to hone his jazz chops at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Martin is professor of Jazz Trumpet at the Birmingham Conservatoire. One of the UK’s leading saxophonists’ brings his own all star quartet to Swansea Jazzland. Alan has enjoyed a prolific career as a sideman, playing and recording for many bands. He broadcast regularly over a ten-year period with the BBC Big Band and Radio Orchestra and has toured and recorded with big band leaders, Dick Walter, Kenny Baker, Bob Wilber, Don Weller, Stan Tracey, Mike Westbrook and John Dankworth.
