Emily Jenks is the founder, owner, and director of Rockland School of Ballet and has taught ballet, tap, jazz, modern, contemporary and improvisational dance to all ages in the mid-coast area for over 24 years. Miss Emily is known for her unique ability to bring the joy, as well as grace, poise, and discipline of the beautiful art of dance to anyone interested, regardless of age, ability, or aspiration. Miss Emily, also a professional model, began her dance education at the age of 5 in the Washington, D.C. area. She continues to further her education in dance, child pedagogy and psychology through dance teacher workshops in NYC, Leap ‘n Learn™ teacher workshops, Angelina Ballerina™ teacher workshops, various master classes studying many forms including Dunham Technique, Ballroom Dance, Haitian Dance, and AfroCaribbean Dance, and also Maine Dance Teachers Club workshops, where Emily is on the board of directors. Emily is a member of the ‘National Dance Association’, the ‘Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance’, the ‘American Association for Health Education’, the ‘National Association for Sport and Physical Education’ and the ‘Maine Dance Teachers Club’, and is the owner and director of Miss Emily’s Etiquette & Modeling Institute. In the summer months Miss Emily runs an exciting, educational, and fun Ballet Camp program. Emily is certified in the Leap ‘N Learn Early Childhood Curriculum and in the Angelina Ballerina Dance Academy Curriculum.
Jessica M cM ahon, Assistant to the Director and Teacher
Jessica McMahon quickly fell in love with dance at age 3 and hasn't stopped dancing since. She studied with Jimena Lasansky, Ivy Forest, & Annie Laurita, and performed in the Atlantic Ballet Company's ‘The Nutcracker’. She joined Rockland School of Ballet in 2002, and it quickly became her home away from home. In 2005-06 Jessica was Miss Emily’s teaching assistant. While pursuing her degree in Culinary Arts, Jessica continued with dance classes and participated in dance performances such as the Five Colleges of the Fenway Dance Ensemble and Dance USM, and Rockland School of Ballet spring productions. She continued with classes in ballet and modern after college while working full time as an Event Producer for successful catering companies in Southern ME and Boston, including MIT. In March 2014, Jessica returned to Mid-Coast ME, and reconnected with Miss Emily & Rockland School of Ballet, taking adult classes. Jessica is looking forward to teaching classes this fall at RSB and is excited to offer a new style of dance to the studio and bring her love of dance to the young dancers at Rockland School of Ballet. Miss Jessica is a fully licensed Leap 'n Learn instructor. For more on Miss Jessica, please visit www.rocklandballet.com/biography

Angelina Ballerina™ Dance Academy Now at R ockland School of Ballet !
Rockland School of Ballet is now an official licensed Angelina Ballerina Dance Academy. Your child will receive a quality dance education in a caring and fun environment, all based on the beloved Angelina Ballerina character. The Angelina Ballerina Dance Academy curriculum is designed by internationally renowned master teachers and child development experts. Your child will be inspired to pursue their dreams of dance, just like Angelina Ballerina!
Rockland School of Ballet has been using the Leap ‘N Learn Early Childhood Program for over 17 years and is proud to be a part of the new licensing program. The Leap ‘n Learn Early Childhood Program is specially designed to provide children ages 3-‐12 with a creative, enjoyable, and strong foundation in dance and movement. From week to week young dancers take pleasure in developing their mind, muscle memory, body awareness, and control, laying the groundwork for proper technique. Through a series of exercises that utilize a child’s natural development, our program teaches the young dancer the basic elements of movement and dance: space and how we relate to it, individually and as part of a team; the eight basic locomotor movements; musical rhythm; opposites and directions; some elementary positions of ballet and yoga.
Students at R ockland School of Ballet are encouraged to think creatively and listen attentively while also learning the basics of classroom behavior and manners, which remains the same throughout their dancing years. These include the concepts of taking turns, following or leading the way, waiting patiently, working with and respect for others, and having a positive attitude. Young dancers at R ockland School of Ballet engage in pretend play and actively use imagery and pantomime. R ockland School of Ballet dancers also learn valuable lessons in nutrition and anatomy, and gain the healthy habit of exercising at an early age.
