RECITAL
Costume Deposits and Recital Fee
Rockland School of Ballet’s 2014 Children’s Recital Rockland School of Ballet is thrilled to announce that this year’s spring production of ‘The Frog Princess’ will be at the Rockport Opera House! We are in full swing with preparations and look forward to keeping you all updated in the coming months. As a reminder for all RSB students, family and friends, dress rehearsal will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015 with a performance on Saturday, April 18, 2015. Rehearsal and show times will be published soon, please be on
the lookout in future issues of From The Barre and on our bulletin boards in the Rockland Studio. All costume deposits are due no later than December 15th. Costume deposits not only help pay for costumes but allow Rockland School of Ballet and Miss Emily to select the best possible quality costuming for your child. A recital fee of $30 will be due the week of January 19th. A recital fee, used by many dance studios across the country, allows for Rockland School of Ballet to branch
out and acquire the use of the Rockport Opera House stage. We are very excited about this year’s performance and look forward to showcasing all of our dancers and their tremendous skills this spring. It is sure to be one of our best performances ever.

November Monthly Objective Relation%ips 10
Relation%ips Learning to move while considering your placement in relationship to others is an important component of dance. Choreography and dancing in general is much more enjoyable if dancers are conscious of one another when traveling around the space instead of standing in a straight line. All dancers can successfully perform many interesting patterns and pathways in dance. Some relationship skills include: -following the leader -moving in and out of a circle -moving while holding hands with a partner -moving as a group in a horizontal line -moving sideways and in a vertical line as a class -moving with a partner, weaving in-between one another -moving around a partner -criss crossing

Rockland Has Style During the last week in October Rockland School of Ballet and Miss Emily’s Etiquette and Modeling Institute participated in ‘Rockland Has Style,’ hosted by Rockland Main Street. This event showcased all that Rockland has to offer. In addition to RSB and EMI, businesses such as “Something Blue,” “C’est la Vie,” “By George Jewelers,” and “Sea Street Graphics” all participated modeling merchandise, jewelry and clothing from their stores. It was a wonderful experience, and we were thrilled to be a part of the fashion show that showcases our local businesses. A huge thank you to Olivia LaBranche, Evelyn Booth and Grace Young for their participation and willingness to be Rockland School of Ballet models for the evening! We look forward to next year’s event!

Contemporary at Rockland School of Ballet There is still space in Rockland School of Ballet’s contemporary classes with Miss Jessica! Classes meet on Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:00 and Saturdays from 3:00-4:00. Starting with a warm-up to popular contemporary music students stretch and strengthen all of their muscles. Moving into combinations and across the floor exercises students are challenged to demonstrate accuracy, style and agility. Combinations are varied in difficulty and technique.
Finally class ends with work on new and learned routines typically choreographed by Miss Jessica with input from students. Both contemporary classes are hard at work building a repertoire and strong knowledge base of this beautiful style of dance. With more questions, or to register for contemporary classes, please contact Rockland School of Ballet at 207.542.3556 or missemily@rocklandballet.com

Holidays: The holiday season is fast approaching! This year Rockland School of Ballet will be getting into the holiday spirit! Each class we will be celebrating with a secret santa gift exchange. How it will work: 1. In class during the week of December 1st, dancers will draw a name of another classmate. 2. Dancers and families will have 2 full weeks to find a secret santa gift for their classmate. We ask families to put a $5 dollar limit on their spending this year. 3. Gifts will be exchanged at the end of classes during observation week. Please contact Miss Emily with any questions or for help with gift ideas. We look forward to celebrating this holiday season with all of you!
Measurements: As you know by now Rockland School of Ballet is in full swing with preparations for the spring recital. In December Miss Emily will be passing through all classes with her measuring tape and clipboard to measure all dancers for costuming! Rockland School of Ballet Outreach There is great need and Hospitality House, on the Old County Road in Rockport, often has children as well as adults in need of shelter. Job loss, divorce, domestic violence, and the death of a loved one are but some of the challenges that create a struggle to make ends meet and pay bills, Sometimes the impact of these hardships means the loss of adequate shelter. These people are our friends, family members, neighbors, and fellow schoolmates. This is why Rockland School of Ballet chose this local ministry for our ministry. Hospitality House is the local homeless shelter. It was started in the early 1990’s by the local area churches. The way Rockland School of Ballet can help is through a ‘SHOEBOX MINISTRY’. The ‘SHOEBOX MINISTRY’ is this: Shoeboxes are covered with wrapping paper, and filled with necessary items, such as: toiletries (travel size shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, hairbrush/comb to name just a few), gloves &/or socks (in winter); (please see complete list at the studio.) And these boxes are taken to Hospitality House and when a person, or persons, in need comes to the shelter, they are given a shoebox with these basic necessities. Do you have a spare shoebox? Do you have travel size toiletry items, possibly from a hotel stay? Miss Emily has a collection of toiletries that have been donated from various people. If you do not have a shoebox – please pick one up from the waiting room, wrap it and fill it. And if you don’t have supplies, don’t forget – there are lots at the studio to fill your shoebox with. Maybe you can add a personal touch of a snack and/or gloves and a hat. Remember sometimes people flee their homes with nothing but the clothes on their back. My sister-in-law showed up on my doorstep with her two small children one day, in her nightgown. Your generosity will always be remembered. Thanks!!
FIve Point Reward System
Star Chart at Rockland School of Ballet The Five-Point Reward System works well to reinforce positive behavior and class etiquette in Junior and Youth level classes. The system allows each dancer a chance to earn five points during each class session. Dancers can earn one point for each item in the following list, but dancers behaving in a negative manner during class can lose points during class for the ‘respect for other dancers and teachers and self’ and ‘work ethic’ items. Dress Code: correct leotard, tights, and shoes; no jewelry Hair: in appropriate ballet bun Promptness: not late for class; line up; dressed and ready; using the restroom before class Work Ethic: Focused and trying hard during class Showing respect for other dancers and teachers
For September and October the following dancers earned the most stars on the chart: Isabella LaBranche Erin-Marie Corcoran Katherine White Haven Marves Isabelle Haskell Ada Marves Maya Koerber-Marx
We would also like to recognize those students with perfect attendance. Your commitment and efforts in the studio are greatly appreciated, keep up the good work!
