With October upon us, it’s impossible to ignore the reality of the changing of the seasons, the turning of the cycles, and that the long hours of daylight are quickly disappearing. Whilst I have to admit to a degree of anxiety about the thought of once again soon having to negotiate icy roads (this is still one behaviour this Australian hasn’t quite integrated!), I will also admit that the coming winter has its appeal. By the end of the month, we’ll be celebrating Halloween, or Samhain - the ritual not only to remember the dead, but to celebrate rebirth and renewal. It’s the time when we can really look inwards, deep into the inner cauldron of our consciousness, and reflect on what needs to be released. In our busy world, it’s not easy to create space for this process. But if we want to create anything new in our lives, this is what we must do. This is what I think the Autumn season really teaches us - in ‘letting go’, we consciously surrender our thoughts and feelings, and allow ourselves to be receptive to the spark of new life which simply must happen - it can’t not happen. Within your own inner cauldron lie the subtle movements of change which will evolve in your life in the coming months and years. Why not give them a little room to breathe...

I Feel there is a true connection... But I Don’t Even Know Him Camera zooms in...
Man sees woman sitting at tube stop. She looks distant and almost ethereal. In the bustle and commotion of the crowded station she stands alone. Beautiful, stunning. His world has stopped. Woman sees man. Fumbling and clumsily trying to work his way through the mad push of the tube, his vulnerable and child-like innocence seems completely at odds with the world around him. She stares. Her life has changed.
Camera Pans out.
Love at first sight. Instant connection. The spark of cupid’s arrow. These are all names for this not so uncommon phenomenon. Yet, finding yourself in love

with someone you don’t even know doesn’t always work out so easily as in the Hollywood movies. The initial high of that instant connection can turn sour as insecurities and uncertainties begin to emerge. Is he attracted to me? Did he notice me today? What does he think of me? Does he even notice me? As our insecurities build and our initial feelings start to be less certain, then we can begin to feel more and more fearful of rejection.
A case in point… A client of mine, Suzy, had been having some marital problems, but overall she was not really unhappy. She had a good group of friends and was generally getting on with her life. One day during her lunch hour, she happened to notice a guy who was staring at her. It was very strange because she was sure his face looked familiar. As such, she couldn’t help staring back. His penetrating stare disarmed her totally. She felt completely vulnerable, like he was looking right into her soul. On the one hand she felt like a giddy adolescent, and on the other hand, she felt this very deep and strong stirring for something she couldn’t quite put a name to. Suzy turned away (or
more likely fled), feeling quite embarrassed. Later that night she couldn’t help but think about him. It awoke in her very old feelings that she felt she had lost a long time ago. After years living with her husband, she had accepted the reality that relationships were more like friendship, but this man was entirely something different. Over the next month, she saw the man a number of times. Each time the same thing would happen, and each time the stares would become more obvious. She found out through colleagues that his name was Paul and that he worked in the same building in another department. He was married also and had two kids. That was all she knew about him. As the month progressed, Suzy found herself thinking about Paul more and more. She chided herself for being silly, but at the same time, she secretly fantasized about something happening. She rang a number of psychics who told her she had past life connections with Paul. This further confirmed her feeling that something significant was happening. Nevertheless, she was paralyzed by a fear that stopped her from approaching him. She desperately hoped that at one point he might approach her, but it just never seemed to work out that way. By the time Suzy rang me she was in a very desperate state indeed. Three months had passed since their first meeting and the whole issue was beginning to consume her. She knew it was becoming unhealthy, but she felt totally stuck. She just couldn’t shake the feeling. Cathy Cox is one of Origin Psychic’s most experienced and popular Senior Readers. During my psychic readings with Suzy, I was able to help her confront some important blocks to resolving the situation. Part of the reading was about helping Suzy to recognize that the connection with Paul was a catalyst for an awakening in herself. In this sense, it wasn’t about Paul at all, but about helping Suzy see how she had become stuck in a mundane and routine relationship with her husband. Paul didn’t happen by co-incidence. Suzy attracted Paul into her life to help her face her deeper feelings of restlessness and discontent in her own marriage. Until she faced this, Paul would always just be a fantasy in her mind, serving as a distraction from a deeper unhappiness. Intellectually, Suzy was already aware of this problem, but her belief was that she really couldn’t leave her relationship with her husband. The real block to things happening was not Paul but her. Her relationship with Paul was a fantasy because underneath it all, that’s what Suzy really believed it was. As Suzy became clearer and clearer about this her fear of rejection from Paul began to lessen. She was able to
see that there was in fact a strong attraction between them, but she was able to be more pragmatic about it. She realized that her nervous and intense reactions to Paul were creating a block. So instead of going blushing and staring back, she simply started to smile back. It was only a matter of time before a conversation was struck up and they started to form a friendship. So did Suzy and Paul get together? For the moment, I will leave this as a mystery, other than to say Suzy was a much happier woman as a result of connecting with Paul. The real story behind this story is that an ‘instant connection’ is only the first step on an emotional journey. If we become too focussed on the feeling of the connection, it is likely just to become an obsessive fantasy rather than a real relationship.
The only way to make that ‘instant connection’ mean something is to work with where you are at here and now, and to begin relating to the person as they really are, rather than how you imagine them to be. If you are both married then focus on developing a friendship rather than getting into romantic fantasies. If you are working together, focus on nurturing a healthy professional The real story behind this story is that respect for each other rather than playing flirting games. Bring practical substance to your connection. If you are not an ʻinstant connectionʼ is only the first interested in this, and you are only interested in finding out step on an emotional journey. If we whether he has romantic feelings for you, then you need to become too focussed on the feeling of ask yourself whether you are more interested in the fantasy than you are in the person themselves. the connection, it is likely just to become

The Wisdom Factor B y Rod N ic ho l so n One of the major theological virtues in Catholic theology is "Faith". Faith is, however, not just something for God. Faith is major in our ordinary everyday life. The unfolding of our life and what we manifest on a day to day basis is directly related to our Faith. "Credo" is the Latin for "I believe". What we believe is the foundation of our life. What we bring forth each day is directly related to what we believe. Faith is not some air fairy virtue which we have when maybe we go to church. Faster than the Speed of Light? N at alie Arki n s “Try and penetrate with our limited means the secrets of nature and you will find that, behind all the discernible concatenations, there remains something subtle, intangible and inexplicable. Veneration for this force beyond anything that we can comprehend is my religion. To that extent I am, in point of fact, religious.” - Albert Einstein, Response to atheist, Alfred Kerr (1927), quoted in The Diary of a Cosmopolitan (1971) DID YOU KNOW, that scientists have discovered a neutrino particle that travelled faster than the speed light, putting Einstein’s theory of special relativity in jeopardy. This is big news in the physics world, although don’t worry about this finding changing our universe. It must have been happening all along. What it does change is how we view our universe and the principles that delineate it. Scientist’s at Gran Sasso facility in Italy, in association with CERN, have studied the speed of neutrinos on the 730 km path from CERN to the detector at Gran Sasso for over 3 years. Neutrinos are subatomic particles that are electrically neutrally, and have almost no mass. A light beam would take 2.4 milliseconds to complete the journey, but these neutrino’s completed the journey 60 nanoseconds faster (60 billionth of second). That may seem to be an extremely small difference, but the margin of error is only 10 nanoseconds, so this is a statistically significant event. If proven true, this would cast doubts on the barrier of the speed of light, which Einstein hypothesised could not be broken by particles in our universe. Now, aside from the science viewpoint, this has interesting connotations for causality - cause and effect. In our world view at the moment, causality means the
Albert Einstein
cause comes first, then the effect. With particles going faster than the speed of light, causality no longer occurs, and events could be happening without the effect of timetwo things happening spontaneously in different places or effect happening before the cause occurred. This may seem very strange to most people, but those of us tuned into the psychic world, this could explain psychic phenomena, how we can know something before its happened, or help to explain what has so far been unexplainable. It will be interesting to see how the scientific community explains this finding, and how it can possibly change our worldview, and hopefully alter the currently held view of psychic energies.

How to Thrive in Hard Times Talk of further financial woes dominate the headlines. Are we just to be buffeted around by the international financial trends, or is there something ‘the little man‘ can do? Unless you have been hiding behind a rock (or you’re a merchant banker) you may have noticed a great deal of talk again about recession, unemployment, market slumps, sovereign debt crisis, credit crisis, housing bubble bursts, increased cost of living and a host of other economic and social problems which all add to a general public sentiment that says ‘we’ve had it!.’ Our natural reaction to all this negativity is to bunker down and hope the storm passes without hurting us too much. Save, cut our spending, and pay off debts. Ironically, it’s this very attitude which acts as a catalyst for further economic woes as low consumer confidence causes businesses to cut jobs, reduce wages and cut spending. ‘We’ve had it – The Sequel!’ Yet, how can we as individuals respond otherwise in the face of such powerful and complex global economic forces? If politicians, with multi-billion budgets can’t work out the answer, then how can we?
LET GO OF BLIND FEAR(OR GREED) AND BECOME A CONSCIOUS INITIATOR Warren Buffet, a famous economic investor attributed his success to a simple maxim – ‘We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.’ Personally, I don’t like the idea of being either fearful or greedy, but I do agree with the basic wisdom behind this statement, that sheepishly conforming to the collective mentality of the time is not intelligent. In this sense, it is not greed that is required during hard economic times - most of us don’t have the cash to be greedy anyhow! Instead, it is about shifting our paradigm - our way of thinking. It is about recognising that while others ‘duck for cover’ in fear, waiting for the storm to pass, there are many opportunities to be taken advantage of. Yes, 1 in 10 people are unemployed, but 9 in 10 are still in employment. Yes, housing prices have plummeted, but interest rates are at record lows. When we start to get out of the fear mentality, we can begin to see opportunities others have missed. In most cases, fear and greed make us blind and unconscious. We become like those helpless lemmings falling off the cliff.
DON’T BE A 9-5 WAGE SLAVE Having a wage doesn’t mean you have to be a wage slave. Again, this is a question of mentality and paradigm. In times of high unemployment, many of us are just grateful we still have a job. Many people begin to live in fear of losing 8
their job. This attitude leads us to hunker down and shy away from any change. We stop thinking in terms of career progression and start thinking in terms of career survival. Such a mentality is deeply unsatisfying. We stop feeling we are at work because we want to be there, but because we have to be there. Our job becomes a chore, an exercise in clock watching. We find ourselves unmotivated and lacking energy, but at the same time feeling stressed because of the possible threat of job loss. Thriving in difficult economic times requires us to let go of comfort zones and security boxes, because in the end, these kind of comfort zones end up becoming financial and career prisons. I’m not suggesting you quit your job straight away, but rather look honestly at how much of a victim you may have become to your own fears. Sometimes the simple act of confronting this truth is the most important first step. NURTURE YOUR NETWORK OF SUCCESS Ok, so we have now worked out that we want to be ‘conscious initiators’ and don’t want to be ‘9-5 wage slaves’ but this doesn’t happen by just tapping our shoes and thinking of Kansas. It is so easy to set positive intentions one day and then simply slip back into the old patterns and routines the next. Many people have ‘Eureka’ moments where they see things clearly, but few hold on to these moments and make them happen. If you want your life to thrive, it requires consistent nurturing and support. If positive change is just a plan in your head or a ‘to-do list’, then more likely at some point your plan will dissipate or fade into a hazy daydream. It is vital to bring people and relationships into your life who also share your intention. Often I talk to clients whose main problem is that they are drained by the negativity or politics of other people at work. In such situations it is vital to seek out other ‘conscious initiators’. This in itself may feel like a daunting task, but with the ascendency of social media, there are now many forums where people seeking a more empowered life interact and connect. It is cliché, but still true to
say, that we live in a world today that is more interconnected than ever. Consciously linking into this network is a critical element to thriving in difficult economic times. In sociology, this process is referred to as building up ‘social capital.’ In the same way psychical things like money, assets etc build up a value, our relationships also build up a value. Unsurprisingly, social and physical capital are strongly related. From a psychic perspective, I see this process as linking in to the power of the oneness in the world. This is a perspective we have lost touch with in a modern capitalist paradigm built on the idea that we are all selfish individuals competing for survival in a hostile world. The more we view life this way, the more we become trapped in the boom/bust cycle of fear and greed. The more deeply we start being conscious initiators, bringing ourselves into clear alignment with others who want a more positive, creative and free world, the more powerful we will become both financially and emotionally.
Mind Space... Try this exercise to develop your confidence in being a ‘mindful initiator’. Sit comfortably, with your feet flat on the floor, and just take a few moments to relax. Rest your hands gently on your belly. Slow your breathing down. With each outward breath, see any stress or tension flowing down through your body and into the earth. When you are feeling relaxed, take your attention to your belly. This is the dark space of your creativity. As you breathe in, see a small spark of light in this space. This is the spark of your own creativity. Breathe in and out gently, and as you do, see this small light slowly becoming larger. You are nourishing your knowing about your own creativity. Stay with this space as long as you want to. When you are ready, gently press your heels into the earth, take a deep breath, and open your eyes.
