FALL RALLY This year, Fall Rally will be on Zoom Call, Saturday, November 14th and will be a joint event that combines Fall Rally North and Fall Rally South. A few things change this year due to the circumstances of not being there physically, but we will still have a lot of the same things. Instead of in-person spirit battles, chants will be pre-recorded and the best one will win.

EDITOR’S NOTE Hey Gators! I just know you guys are doing well and having the best time at virtual school, am I right? Haha, even if things aren’t working out for you now, just know that it is temporary and you will overcome anything this pandemic throws at you. I’m glad you guys are reading these and I hope you are enjoying them so far.

Yours in Service, Ronald Lu Goldstone Divisional Bulletin Editor

CNH KIWIN’S PROJECTS MAJOR EMPHASIS LIVE2LEARN This is a program that promotes education and builds literacy skills that is specifically focused on ages 5-9 years old. It implements education support structures to assist kids of all levels and abilities to develop and embrace key skills to improve the chances of kids getting at least some of the opportunities afforded to more fortunate contemporaries. It creates endless possibilities to strengthen the common goal of service.

MINOR EMPHASIS PEDIATRIC TRAUMA PROGRAM It aims to raise awareness and funds to increase education about PTP and preventable accidents/injuries. The leading caused of death of children (infancy to 19 years old) in the US are motor vehicle accidents, physical abuse, drowning accidents, falls, and animal bites. It became a main focus of KIWIN’S in conjunction with California-Nevada-Hawaii Kiwanis in 1992. Our largest fundraiser for this is Fall Rally North and South!

GOVERNOR’S PROJECT UNICEF UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. Through the Coronavirus Children’s Appeal, UNICEF helps to respond, recover, and ultimately reimagine the effects of Covid-19 on children. In all of its work, UNICEF recognizes the particular importance of early childhood development and adolescence. UNICEF programmes focus on the most disadvantaged children, including those living in fragile contexts, those with disabilities, those who are affected by rapid urbanization and those affected by environmental degradation.

CAUSE PARTNER & PREFERRED CHARITY ELIMINATE PROJECT & TRICK OR TREAT ELIMINATE PROJECT The Eliminate Project’s goal is to get rid of the disease, Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT), that affects thousands of mothers and children worldwide. Every 15 minutes, a newborn baby dies from this disease. The newborn becomes too sensitive to light , sound, and contact that it cannot even experience a mother’s touch. The Eliminate Project has raised over $82 million since 2012 to help vaccinate mothers and babies against this deadly disease.

TRICK-OR-TREAT FOR UNICEF Through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, Kiwanis International and UNICEF partners up in an effort to battle Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus.

DISNEY MASK-MAKING EVENT

SEPTEMBER DCM SEPTEMBER 27, 2020 During the September DCM, I had a really fun time making Disney-themed masks! It was nice to get to know other students involved in KIWIN’S while being able to contribute to my community. Especially during these times with Covid-19, it is important to stay safe and protected while maintaining our connections.

It was also very creative in that we were still able to hold an event like this during a pandemic where we have little contact with others. Written by Alisa De La Rosa Glen A. Wilson HS

CHICK-FIL-A FUNDRAISER SEPTEMBER 12, 2020 The Chick-fil-A Fundraiser, planned by our very own District Treasurer, Kevin Chung, was a success in raising funds toward our Governor’s Project, UNICEF. Although the location was less

10

than ideal for most of us, we appreciate all the effort you guys gave to support this cause. We hope to see you guys at upcoming fundraisers soon!

ECOSIA ZOOM CALL

ECOSIA SERVICE WEEK SEPTEMBER 20-26, 2020 The Ecosia Service Week was a week long service event where members could earn service hours by using Ecosia! For people that don’t know Ecosia, Ecosia is a search engine that collects revenue from searches and uses them to plant trees in needed areas. For every 45 searches that were made, 1 tree is planted! For our service event, every 1 tree planted translated to 1 service hour and we could max out at 15 service hours! The use of Ecosia was very creative as it was efficient in helping us finish our school work and plant trees at the same time. Saving the planet is always great, and using Ecosia was a great way to multitask.

It’s so cool that we could use this search engine as a way to save our planet and plant trees! It’s extremely easy to use and user friendly as well! Ecosia is great and makes a difference in changing our planet for the better! Written By Jeremiah Esguerra Glen A. Wilson HS
