IT’S ME, THE

EDITOR Hey Gators! I hope everyone is doing well in the new year and we are all getting ready for what second semester has in store for us. Whew, I kind of got tired of the old style of my newsletters so time for a remodel :0. It’s been great creating these so I hope you enjoy! Getting enough sleep and staying hydrated is important, too. Don’t start slacking off on those New Years Resolutions now ;). Dead but alive, Ronald Lu Divisional Bulletin Editor

LTG NOTE JANUARY 2021

What’s up Gators! Ready for the new year? Have any new resolutions/ goals for this year? While we depart from 2020, let’s remember all the hardships, setbacks, racial inequalities, and those who we lost. Recall all the lessons we’ve learned and how far we have come. As we approach 2021, let’s work hard and stay diligent to meet our goals and create a better future! On another note, don’t forget to push to ALL club members to pay dues since we collect them throughout this whole year. Spread the ohana by sharing your experiences and memories! Remember we can recruit throughout the WHOLE year! It’s never too late! Regarding future events, Club election season is right around the corner. If you want to leave a greater impact on the community, inspire leadership in others, broaden your leadership in KIWIN’S, even if you’re a freshman, I HIGHLY recommend you to run for a leadership position. Since LTG has just been elected, look out for the divisional leadership team applications or join one of our district committees! They offer a great inside look at what goes behind the scenes while meeting/ making friends with KIWIN’S from a different school all around California! See you gators at our next divisional event! Thanks for allowing me to serve such a great division filled with passionate individuals! Chomping through for service, Juliana Miranda Lieutenant Governor 2020-2021

GOVERNOR’S PROJECT |

UNICEF UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. Through the Coronavirus Children’s Appeal, UNICEF helps to respond, recover, and ultimately reimagine the effects of Covid-19 on children. In all of its work, UNICEF recognizes the particular importance of early childhood development and adolescence. UNICEF programs focus on the most disadvantaged children, including those living in fragile contexts, those with disabilities, those who are affected by rapid urbanization and those affected by environmental degradation.

DIVISIONS GOLDSTONE What’s a division? CNH KIWIN’S District is made up of 9 divisions, each of them having their own gemstone and animal mascot. Our mascot is a Gator representing Goldstone. DUES CLUB DUES

WHERE DO YOUR DUES GO?

+

$7 - CNH KIWIN’S DISTRICT $7 - KEY CLUB INT’L $? - CHOICE BY CLUB $14-21 TOTAL DUES Dues are annual fees that are used to directly benefit the members’ experience within KIWIN’S! Dues can vary from club to club depending on what they decide. They give members eligibility for raffles, merch giveaways, awards, scholarships, and more!

THERE ARE STILL LATE OWL DUES!

WHAT ARE

DUES?

“Every year, each club within KIWIN’S is assigned to pay dues to officially establish their position within the organization. With a minimum of $14, $7 is sent to Key Club International and the other half is sent to our district (CNH KIWIN’S). After one pays their dues, they become eligible for certain rights as an official member of the club. For example, members are able to gain service hours and apply for scholarships and awards within KIWIN’S. Paying one’s dues provides many benefits and opportunities within the club that not only allows one to grow, but the organization as well.” Written by Kevin Chung Goldstone Divisional Treasurer

DAMIEN “During January, our club successfully donated clothing through the ‘Goldstone X Emerald KIWIN’S Clothing Drive.’ The members who donated were able to provide over 250 articles of clothing! Though we are a small club here at Damien, we have eager, hardworking members ready to get back to school and have in-person meetings, service events, and fundraisers!” Andrew Lopez, Secretary Damien High School

This January we decided to give our club a few updates and improvements in order to promote club involvement and a smooth transition of knowledge from the cabinet to the members. What we did first was change our club general meeting schedule and time from a weekly basis to holding meetings every other week of the month at 4 PM. We also created a “Los Altos KIWIN’S Info Hub” where we integrate our meeting schedule along with meeting info onto a shared document for all members to view. We also decided to once again partner with a local elementary school looking for help in holding an event for elementary students and we are holding the event on February 13th. We also partnered with NHS at our school to provide school wide tutoring for all subjects, open to all students who need some extra help! Enrique Gonzalez, President Los Altos High School

ST.LUCY’S WILSON The month of January was super busy for SLPHS KIWIN’S! we had a Pieology fundraiser to kick off this month for PTP. it was super successful and everyone enjoyed some yummy pizza. We had a UNICEF math games week to raise money for students’ school supplies. it helped everyone brush up on their math skills and also raise funds for UNICEF. We also started the election process by releasing our board interest form this month. We have had so many girls show interest and we are so excited for elections on Feb 17th! We are looking forward to February, which will have our Krispy Kreme fundraiser for UNICEF and our Live2Learn children’s book readings! Isabella Lardieri, President St. Lucy’s Priory High School

We had a service event called Letters of Love where members wrote letters and recorded videos of poems, jokes, or songs and sent them to an elderly center. We also took part in District Projects and Emphases Week and created our own spirit week called Covid Awareness Week where students gained service hours for participating through posting statistics, ways to stay safe, and their quarantine activities. We had a service event called Dreamlab where through logging how much sleep members get in the DreamLab app, it uses that data for research on cancer genomes. We will also have joint events with clubs on campus as well as promotion of district event Awake-a-thon and will be discussing and promoting club elections soon. Alisa De La Rosa, Publicist Glen A. Wilson High School

JANUARY DCM SATURDAY, JANUARY 30TH |

Our first DCM of the new year! Our clubs have progress so much from the beginning of the term and we were able to share how much we’ve grown and improved since then. Some of the updates shared at the DCM can be seen in the previous page featuring January club updates and recaps. “Goldstone's January DCM was really fun. It was cool seeing all the other clubs' accomplishments in the past months. During the DCM, we got to make bird feeders that we hung on our trees. It was overall a really fun experience and I can't wait for future DCMs and events.” Benjamin Xie, Glen A. Wilson HS
