Year in Review

2014 seemed to fly by, building more and more momentum toward the year’s end. From our acquisition of Learn Maintenance (now rebranded as SkillPoint™) to ATS taking the reigns of Caterpillar’s worldwide IT Service Desk, ATS was on the move in 2014. Add that to closing new business with Stanley Black & Decker, Eaton, Georgia Pacific, USG, Kraft, Terex and Gopher Resource, 2014 found us gaining loyalty from our current customers and earning the respect of some new top manufacturers. I encourage you to take a look at the “Year in Review” in the following pages to see some of the great things our employees did this past year. We received a lot of recognition from the media in 2014, CNBC and The Wall Street Journal to name a few and hosted a Red Cross fundraiser, featuring country music star Sara Evans and raising $450,000. Our employee engagement scores are improving, our focus on safety remains our number one priority and I am very appreciative of all ATS employees for a fantastic year. Enjoy the holidays with your family and friends and above all Live Safety through this special time of year. Sincerely, Jeff

ATS Employee Drives Innovation Russell Henderson, an ATS Engineer at the Caterpillar Technical Center, has been developing solutions for manufacturers for as long as he can remember. “When I was 10, I drew a picture of a solenoid engine and sent it to my Aunt who designed axles for GM.” Now, Russell has four patents in various stages of the approval process, with his most recent patent being for a variable flow gear pump.

ATS in the Royal City Royal City, USA that is…The ATS team in Kansas City, Missouri has stepped up to the bat and is doing their part to keep the USG plant producing the mold resistant paper for Sheetrock Brand Mold Tough. Starting with this plant just a few months ago, ATS was able to hire 12 very well-rounded technicians with the drive and passion to do maintenance at a world-class standard. ATS is in one other USG facility, but the potential is huge as there are approximately 50 USG plants in North America.

Russell’s background includes ten years as an automotive transmission technician and it was using this experience that helped him develop this new technology. “Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVTs) had just came out and I knew about the efficiency gains, but also that the car belt type CVT wouldn’t be durable enough for Caterpillar’s on-highway truck. While working in the hydraulics lab, I noticed I could put one heck of a load on an engine or dyno by restricting the outlet of a hydraulic pump.” This lead to the creation of the approved patent.

The plant was built in 1926, well before Kansas City grew into the metropolis it is today, with the downtown skyline now visible from the plant. Besides having a great baseball team this year, the locals will tell you to try the bar-be-cue, especially the “burnt ends.” “We have a great team here – our focus on safety and continuous improvement will drive productivity and efficiency, achieving outstanding results while having fun along the way. USG and ATS, working as one team to produce innovative solutions is the key to what is going to make this site a success,” said Logan McNear, ATS Site Manager.

“ATS has a wonderful culture that enables us to contribute at higher levels than we would at other jobs. They encourage me to be creative and make me feel like my ideas can make a difference. The best part of ATS is the culture.”

You need to call someone at the Corporate office, but don’t know who to call or can’t remember the number? “ATS One Call” can help. Launched in November, ATS One Call includes a menu of the most common departments called by employees, including HR, the IT Service Desk & eFactory Connect. So just
