RONNIE’S RAMBLINGS
T
by ronnie wilson
his last week was a bit of a strange/easy/challenging/interesting week. Monday night I had no events to cover. This “night off” gave me a chance to catch-up on my laundry and assorted other household chores I have been neglecting. I accomplished much less than I had hoped, but about as much as I expected - I am still behind in most all of the chores. Tuesday was full. Three boys basketball games all scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Given the appropriate scheduling and locations of basketball games I can cover four games in one night. This was not ope of those nights. One of the three games was between two local teams. That is the only game I covered that night. Wednesday was another night off. I was not sure what to do with myself having two nights off in the same week, let alone two in three nights. I returned to my domestic du-

ties. Again, I did not accomplish as much as would have liked, but as much as could in the time given. Thursday night had two boys swimming/diving sectionals scheduled at 5:30 p.m.; on at Ben Davis with the only local team being Brownsburg and the other at Plainfield with all of the other six teams thee. I decided to go to Ben Davis and spend the night covering Brownsburg. I would cover the other five schools on Saturday at Plainfield. Friday night’s schedule had four boys basketball games, again. Fortunately, one of the teams I had covered
on Tuesday night, so they were out of the mix. I could do two, but no way I could do three. I picked the two closest to each other. I decided to go to the venue closest to me first. The JV game ran late. It did not finish until after 7:30 p.m.; that is the estimates start of the var-
sity game. The varsity game did not begin until 8 p.m. The night had not begun for me an I was already late. My initial plan was to shoot the first quarter and about 2 3 minutes of the second quarter or the first game, then drive to the second game to cover the last couple of minutes of the third quarter and all of the fourth. The game-time gods were not on my side. I scurried to the second game, knowing I would be
late, but thinking I could probably cover at least the entire fourth quarter. Again, not on this night. As I entered the gym I saw the game clock had 3:30 remaining in the fourth quarter. I needed to get into position and begin shooting very quickly. I managed to get several decent and a couple of good shots at both games and published them in this issue The “fun part of the weekend was about to begin. The first girls regional basketball game was scheduled for 10 a.m. at Danville. I arrived at about 9:30 a.m. Something was not right. The parking lot was completely cleared of snow and totally devoid of cars. I called the Danville AD. He stated the games had been postponed to 5 and 7 p.m due to weather. No problem, I would go to
the boys swimming/diving sectional at Plainfield, which began at 1 p.m. Wrong again. That start time had been delayed until 5 p.m. due to weather. I decided I would cover the first half or so of the basketball game then drive to the swim/dive sectional to cover the end of it. Did I mention the state wrestling championships were to be gin at 7 p.m. Saturday night. I return to the basketball venue to be told the games have been postponed to Monday. NO big deal, I can now get to the swim/dive sectional earlier and cover all of it. By this time I had abandoned any hope of getting to cover wrestling. Fortunately, another photographer I know would be there covering it for several other newspapers. I asked him if he could get a couple of shots to me. He said he would try. He did. It looked like I was out of the woods, but no. The girls regional basketball game and the Ben Davis swim/dive sectional were rescheduled to begin at 6 and 5:30 p.m., respectively, Monday, February 23. Am I having fun?
