RONNIE’S RAMBLINGS
I
am at a loss for topic this week, occasions to contain composure again. Interestingly, I have always beI have ranted about the current lieved I could have done more, or toxic political situation to the that I frequently came up a bit point where I am about to begin repeating myself. I wrote a draft attempting to summarize the past thirty years of my coverage of high school sports and my twenty years of publishing photos of high school sports. At just over 3,500 words I quit. That is several degrees of magnitude more than is appropriate for this space and exceeds most people’s tolerance of my pontificating. I want to thank, again, all of the people who have commented on my retirement and that my presence will be missed. Being the recipient of those kind words and sentiments is rather moving. It has been difficult on

short of what I perceived my goals to be. Apparently, in the eyes of a few I have been sufficient
As I have been reminiscing, to myself, I have found it interesting the few negative comments or disparaging remarks I have received concerning my coverage of local sports have been so greatly outweighed by the positive comments, that it is at times difficult to completely re-
call the barbs. The “atta boys”, however; come to mind rapidly and frequently. When I first announced my retirement to my daughter, son, grand-daughter, bookkeeper and office manager, they all speculated, fervently, that I would not be able to stop photographing
high school sporting events “cold turkey”. My response was, “...of course I can...” The more I thought about it the more I realized they were correct and I was WRONG. Fortunately, for me, the opportunity to string (be a freelance non-employee contributing photographer) for a couple of local publications became available. I was very eager to pursue those opportunities. I can still do what I love, but do it without the pressures of being a publisher as well. I will continue to cover local high school sports, just not as many events or every weekday afternoon/evening/night and multiple events on Saturdays. An added benefit is my Sundays will now be free. With all of this free-time now available to me, I have given some thought to developing a life that is not centered on high school sports. We will see.
