RONNIE’S RAMBLINGS
A
s I rapidly approach the end of my high school sports publication career I suspect I will become a bit sappy and maudlin in this column. Today seems like a good time to start. During my years publishing Sports & More I was occasionally criticized for featuring photos of student/athletes who finished well behind the leaders and even dead last. I was told these images were not of the “winners”. To those who made such comments I replied, “WRONG”. These are the kids who are the very definition of winners. They are competing with a bit less athletic skill and prowess as compared the “franchise” players, but they are competing at the best of their ability. They know full well their chances of

winning are slim to none, but These kids impress the cr-p they compete anyway, for what- out of me. They make a comever their personal reasons mitment and they honor that may be. commitment whatever the final
outcome may be. To my way of thinking these kids deserve recognition as much as the stellar student/ athletes. To those in the past who criticized me for featuring middle of the pack and last place finishers, I still consider your men-
tality WRONG and keep in mind high school athletic success frequently does not carry over into a successful adult life.
been very slow and fraught with cancelled and re-scheduled games. Those cancellations and re-schedules have provided many more nights This spring sports season has off for me, that typical spring an excellent pre-cursor and re- seasons. With more evenings hearsal for my retirement. and nights off, I have been able For the most part the season has to begin some projects around my house that I had scheduled for the summer and later in the year. The operative word above is “begin. I have yet to finish any of said projects. The lack of completion is not due to lack of effort, it is more a result of abbreviated segments of time to dedicate to any one project. Preparation and getting thing in order to start usually takes significantly less time that the project itself’ several of which will take days or even weeks. Until the 2016 spring sports season ends, I will not have any full days or weeks to address the actual project. For now I must settle of being prepared.
