RONNIE’S RAMBLINGS
I
by Ronnie Wilson
t is 10:32 p.m. Sunday May 3, 2015. I sit here staring at this basically blank page. I have placed all of this issue’s photos, completed the captions, placed the ads, written the most recent events statistics/ summaries (at least the ones to which I have access), and still am drawing a blank. Maybe a diversionary activity will help entice the creativity process to begin. I will put together next week’s event coverage schedule. That was a bit of an eye opener. I have potential 33 events to cover next week. Obviously, I will not get to all of them. Thirteen of the 33 are scheduled for Tuesday, May 5th. That is significant because it is my daughter’s birthday; she will be 44. (Sorry to share that
4
with everyone Wendy, but you know when they see me they will ask. I would like to spend some time with her on Tuesday. Work schedules leave only the late evening hours when our work days both leave an opening. The alternative is for me to blowoff Tuesday night’s events and spend it with Wendy. Another possibility is to cover the one county team event and blow-off the remainder of the events. Since several of them are
scheduled at the same time, I could not attend more than three of four at best. Spending part of the evening with my daughter wins. The other that was revealed to me is the spring sports section-
al season is rapidly approaching. May 19th is girls track sectional, and the 21st is boys track sectionals. Tennis sectional begin on May 20th. The following week softball and baseball sectionals start. Boys golf teesoff on June 5th. The next five weeks will be rife with high school sports regular seasons ending and the tournament sea-
son beginning. I still do not have an interesting topic for this week’s column. I am trying to take a break from political commentary because I am sick of the childish, narrowminded, self-serving, egomaniacal tits who have been elected to significant government position of power and influence. Whenever I begin a tirade about stupidment, I meant government, I become frustrated, angry and saddened. No more government talk to day; maybe next week. I think I may be able to find some an educational subject to fill the empty space of this week’s column. To wit: Christopher Columbus was actually a
pretty horrible person. On his first voyage to the New World, he remarked on how friendly the natives were and how easy it would be to enslave them, So on his second voyage, he enslaved them. When the natives decided they didn’t like being enslaved, he’d kill them and strew their dismembered bodies all over the place. His crimes and cruelties get much worse than that. Think about that next time you celebrate Columbus Day. Since America is named after Amerigo Vespucci, why do we not have an Amerigo Vespucci Day celebration? Vespucci was the first person to recognize North and South America as distinct continents that were previously unknown to Europeans, Asians and Africans. Prior to Vespucci’s discovery, explorers, including Columbus, had assumed that the New World was part of Asia.
