RONNIE’S RAMBLINGS

I

The first year of Ronnie’s Ramblings comes to a close By Ronnie Wilson

t has been an interesting year for me and Ronnie’s Ramblings (RR). The new format of covering Hendricks County high school sports has had its ups and downs. The online version is much easier to produce, publish and distribute. The circulation is considerably larger; and growing each issue, I am not limited to a specific number of pages to be produced, which allows me to present many more photos than I could with the hard copy limitations of Sports & More (SAM). I have only one version to produce, Where as SAM had the hard copy and a daily online version. (Ed. Note: Comparing the old online SAM to the new RR, is a bit like comparing a hand-held sparkler to a large 4th of July fireworks show. It pales sadly

4

by comparison. (SAM online was a nice beginning, but RR is much closer to what I had hoped SAM online was going to be.) Distribution is a toss-up. Driving for six hours each Monday to make 40+ deliveries throughout Hebdricks County is something I do not miss at all. Seeing the faces/reactions of some of the readers when they first looked through it is something I greatly miss, as well as my short chats with those who took delivery at each delivery location. I miss the visceral feel of the hard copy. There is something about holding that

newsprint in my hand that cannot be remotely duplicated electronically paging through it online. Passing around the hard copy for friends to see. It is also difficult to cut-out and tape online images to the refrigerator, but it is easy to Tweet, Facebook, (and all of the

other social media of which I have not a clue as to what they are or how they work), email, or send a link to friends and family. There were a few wrinkles and bumps in the beginning. Most of them have been smoothed. There are some changes in the works for next school year’s iteration of RR. Let me know what you like/ dislike, want to see added/ removed/changed in RR and I

will see what I can do about it. My biggest concern now is whether or not to continue this feature of RR. I thoroughly enjoy doing it, but if it is not being read or of little interest to the readers, I may discontinue it. Let me know what you think of my weekly pontificating.

little or nothing to say, (especially when they have nothing of value to say). That’s why it’s nothing short of amazing that America’s third president, Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence made no public appearances or speeches in his eight years in office other than to deliver his inaugural Many of the current crop address to Congress.
