RONNIE’S RAMBLINGS
I
Patience, normalcy, season change, pearls of wisdom and humor By Ronnie Wilson
t has occurred to me on a numerous occasions, while I am out driving to various events or downtown Indy for whatever reason, that I could very well have been a pediatrician,,,because I have very little patience. (This very bad joke will hit you in a few seconds, I hope.) Speaking of driving; I miss my Jeep. It is still in the body shop. I took it to Larkin Collision Repair. I like the people there. Apparently, so do many other people. When I delivered my Jeep for repairs, I was told they probably could not start on it for approximately one and a half to two weeks due to the current backlog of work. The day of my accident, I acquired a rental. It is some tiny Nissan barely five passenger oversized enclosed scooter. I
4
am not its biggest fan. It has hardly any feel for the road; I think I can out accelerate it on my bicycle, the braking is poor for its size and weight and it handles like an old little red wagon. Its one saving grace is that it gets approximately 40 miles per gallon of gas. My Jeep gets only between 17 and 18 miles per gallon, I would still rather have my Jeep. I eagerly await the completion of its repairs so things can return to a bit of normalcy, or what passes for normalcy for me. As difficult as it is to believe, the fall sports season is
beginning to come to an end. Girls golf regional was last Saturday. Golf State finals and boys tennis Sectional are this week, Girls and boys soccer, and girls and boys cross-country sectionals are next week. Football and volleyball sectionals begin the week of October 19th.
The school calendars may be starting sooner, but the fall sports seasons still seem to pass with increasing speed. That is the bad news. The good news is winter sports will soon begin. Girls Basketball kicks off the winter season, with the first games scheduled to begin on November 2nd. The following week will see Girls Swimming/ Diving, A week later is Wrestling. Boys Swimming/Diving
and Boys Basketball both begin play on November 23rd. The point of philosophy is to start with something so simple as not to seem worth stating, and to end with something so paradoxical that no one will believe it. -- Bertrand Russel There are now-a-days professors of philosophy but not philosophers. -- Henry David Thoreau This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness. -- Dalai Lama One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.
-- Elbert Hubbard There are three roads to ruin; women, money and technicians. The most pleasant is with women, the quickest is with money, but the surest is with technicians. -- Georges Pompidou There are two ways of constructing a software design; one way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult. -- C. A. R. Hoare The roundest knight at King Arthur’s round table was Sir Cumference. He acquired his size from too much pi. I thought I saw an eye doctor on an Alaskan island, but it turned out to be an optical Aleutian. A rubber band pistol was confiscated from algebra class, because it was a weapon of math disruption.
