RONNIE’S RAMBLINGS

I

By Ronnie Wilson

n September of last year we lost “When you come to a fork in mistakes.” a philosopher, an icon, a stellar the road, take it.” “You can observe a lot by professional baseball player “We made too many wrong watching.” and an all around good guy – Yogi Berra. I remember Yogi from my childhood of idolizing the New York Yankees: Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Roger Maris and of course Yogi. Yogi became well known for what appeared on the surface to be malapropisms. With closer scrutiny, many were very accurate interpretations of aspects of the human condition. For your entertainment and edification I present below some Yog-isms. (For those of you too young to even have heard of Yogi, read them anyway. You will be better for it “It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.” “It’s déjà vu all over again,”

“The future ain’t what it used to be.” “Nobody goes there anymore; it’s too crowded.” “You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you are going, because you might not get there.” “In theory there is no difference

between theory and practice. In practice there is.” “A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore.” “How can you think and hit at the same time?” “I tell the kids, somebody’s gotta win, somebody’s gotta lose. Just don’t fight about it. Just try

to get better.” “Even Napoleon had his Watergate.” ‘It was impossible to get a conversation going, everybody was talking too much.” “It ain’t the heat, it’s the humility.” “You don’t have to swing hard to hit a home run. If you got the timing, it’ll go.” My favorite is this one he uttered when asked bout his verbal philosophical observations, “I never said most of the things I said.” (I believe Mr Trump is taking this one a little too literally.) Say What???!! David Beckham, the famous English soccer player, is teaching his new son Romeo the finer points about soccer. After a while Romeo asks his dad what number he should have on his uniform when he starts playing for a team. David replied “Wear four out there Romeo.”
