RONNIE’S RAMBLINGS

I

occasionally go political in this space, as I am today. I am embarrassed to live in a state with the narrow minded, gutless, bigoted, self-serving legislators and governor who have little if any regard for what is in the best interest of a majority of Hoosiers. Last week I read where the Indiana state legislature refused to hear or consider legislation protecting rights of many of our citizens. The sad part is that these citizens’ rights need protecting in the first place. They are not asking for special or preferential treatment; merely asking to be treated as all citizens should be treated and not discriminated against. Yes, I am

talking about the LGBT community. Recent polls show that a majority of Hoosiers are in

favor of protecting all rights, including not being discriminated against for being who they are, (members of the

LGBT community). A significant part of opposition’s objection (to this bill) is not the will of the people, which they so ardently profess to support, but do so only when it serves their personal gain; no, their primary reason for

not addressing this issue now is that it may have a deleterious effect on their efforts to get re-elected. It was stated in the Indianapolis Star on February, 3, 2016, “...that the decision to yank the LGBT antidiscrimination

legislation provided political cover for many Republican members who cringed at the prospect of voting on such a sensitive issue just days before the filing deadline for primary challengers...(the) decision also spared (Gov.) Pence from a tough decision on the issue amid one of the toughest campaigns of his political career.” (I always thought making the tough decisions was an integral part of governance, (the buck stops here), apparently, I am wrong To paraphrase, “saving their jobs and their a--es is more important to them than properly serving their constituency, which is what they swore to do when they took office. Many prominent Hoosiers

More, continued from page 5 of business and industry have stated that LGBT rights and protections will come to pass in Indiana, unfortunately not this legislative session. OK, now that I have vented; on to lighter subjects. (I may have vented, but I am still embarrassed by and infuriated with Indiana’s state leaders.)
