RONNIE’S RAMBLINGS
I
had one of those days, last week, much as many of us have had; that we would just as soon had happened very differently. My agenda consisted of girls basketball regional at noon, diving state finals at 1:30, photographs at a Daddy Daughter Dance at 5:30, and a boys basketball game at 7:30. That was the plan. I arose around 7:30, which is a bit early for me, but I usually sleep until my body has finished sleeping, then get up. On this day it finished around 7:30. I went through my normal morning routine; shower, breakfast, pack for the day’s shoots. I went to the refrigerator for milk for my cereal, no milk. OK, I will scramble a couple of eggs - no eggs. The only thing edible in the fridge was a small container of week old bean salad.
4
Bean salad it was. After a little office work, mainly to confirm my itinerary for the day, I left to go to the regional basketball game. It was scheduled to begin at noon. I figured if I left around 10:45 I would have plenty of time to get there and prepare. That part of the plan went well. I arrived about 25 minutes prior to the listed start time. Upon entering the gym I noticed there were 4 plus minutes remaining on the clock, I did not notice the quarter. I assume the first game was running late. Quite to the contrary, The first game
lasted 76 minutes and the second, noon game, my game, started about 10 minutes early. Not only was I not there in plenty of time I was late. I had planned to stay for the first half, then go to diving. Having missed most of the first quarter, I
knew I needed to stay for at least the third quarter. The officials seemed to have a penchant of taking their positions directly in front of me, so I took significantly fewer photos than usual in the 2nd and 3rd quarter, so I stayed for the fourth. By now is was 1:40, by the time I drove to the IUPUI Natatorium it would be after two and close to 2:30 before I could get to the floor to shoot diving. I scratched diving. Fortunately, I had a
friend at the diving competition and she managed to get a photo for me of Plainfield’s Molly Fears and her 2nd place medal. I then headed home. I had some time prior to the dance to stop at the grocery, since earlier I realized by cupboards were bare as well as my fridge. After I arrived home and put away groceries, I made a second check of the dance and my boys basketball schedule. I went to the dance, all was where it was supposed to be, my crew was there and all was well - until.. I stayed long enough to ensure there were no unforeseen problems. As I was about to leave, I
wanted to pay my crew. I had forgotten my wallet and check book. I could not pay them tonight, I would need to do it at a later date. On to the basketball game. Upon my arrival I saw there were no cars in the parking to. OK, maybe I confused the venue, so I drove to the other school. The parking lot was full, too full. I soon realized there was no basketball game, but a band program was in progress. I began the drive home. I was perplexed as to why/ how I could screw-up my game schedule so badly, when I had sudden Aha moment. The two schools scheduled to play boys basketball were Cascade and Plainfield. I surmised Plainfield had asked to have the boys game rescheduled in case the Plainfield girls basketball team was playing in the regional championship that evening. I drove home and called it a night. Tomorrow should be better. So far, it has been,
