irst, I want to apologize to all of the readers of this feature for last week’s plethora of errors. I attempt to be accurate and correct in my use and format of
Monday morning. Prior to publishing, I always give the entire issue one last look-over to see if I can spot any glaring errors. I thought it looked good. (The op-
several errands that needed to be completed, so I ran them. Upon my return, I checked to see that all of the subscribers had been included in the sub-
my native lounge when I write erative word there is “thought”.) scribers’ distribution; all of my and speak. Last week I must After I published the issue I had Facebook and Twitter followers have been asleep when I wrote/ edited parts of that diatribe. I began writing last week’s iteration Monday, by Thursday I was about 75% finished. I proof read what I had written to that point and made a few corrections. By Friday afternoon I had finished all of it, except, the final bit of humor. I proof read it again and felt fairly confident I had corrected what needed to be corrected. Sunday, I added the humor, proof read it again and ran it through spell-checker. I was confident it was ready to be published; so

had been sent their link. Distribution was good. It then occurred to me to take another look/read, just for fun. I can do without that fun. I do not know where my conscious was when I was proofing the RR column, but I noticed numerous blatant punctuation, grammar and spelling errors. As much as I do not like it, I can accept an error or two. (For those
of you who have ever tried to proof read your own writing, I am sure you are aware of the difficulties and “blindness” that can occur, so an error or two was not the end of the world. That issue was horrible. As I read the published version, I questioned myself as to whether or not I had done any proofing what so ever. Parts of it read, and was punc-
tuated like a second grader had written it and malapropisms littered the entire text. Maybe my anticipation/excitement/trepidation/anxiety of retirement clouded my proofing skills, or perhaps my proofing skills are significantly less than I think they are, but overall it was a poor piece of writing. I apologize... I will endeavor to do better in the remaining issues. Do you know??? Neophobia Most people feel anxiety over major life changes. Severe neophobiacs might feel the same way over changing their underwear. Neophobia is the fear of new things and experiences. Kakorrhaphiaphobia Hate losing? You’ve got Kakorrhaphiaphobia: the fear of failure. Aww. Have we told you how smart and pretty you are?
