What to do now?

RONNIE’S RAMBLINGS

I

t is time to go trolling my readers for advice - again. As I am sure most of you are aware I am retiring from the high school sports action photo publishing business at the end of this school year. I am not retiring from photographing high school sports; Have Camera, Will Travel. (Forgive me Paladin), nor am I retiring from my other photographic endeavors. It is all I know and all I have done for 30 years. I would also like to continue this written feature, Ronnie’s Ramblings (RR). It is therapeutic, cathartic, stress relieving, a venting release, at time humorous and I enjoy it. My dilemma is how to best do it and distribute it to others. For all of the years I have been writing and publishing this col-

4

umn and its predecessor, Deliberate Divarication in Sports & More (SAM) I have been pleasantly surprised, thankful and

mystified that there are people who not only read it, but enjoy reading it and look forward to the next iteration. I would like

to continue doing that. It would fit into my retirement plans very well. I can do it without leaving my office/house, encounter no hard deadlines and continue to pontificate on whatever is on my mind, or irritating me, or what I find humorous, or inane, or absurd, or just may need the light

of day reflected upon it. (That “light of day” segment may be a bit grandiose and egotistical of me, but you never know.) I can also pass along pearls of wisdom, musings of philosophy and I would be hopeful to bring an occasional smile to a face or three.

My dilemma is, what would be the best “publishing” vehicle do that? I have heard there are things called “blogs” that essentially can accomplish what I want to do, but as you well know, I am a technological neophyte, OK, idiot. Much as when I started (SAM) 20 years ago, I knew nothing about publishing or page layouts and design, I enlisted the assistance of people I knew. I learned and SAM/RR got better over the years. I never became as adroit or skillful as those teaching me, through no fault of theirs; I am just a slow learner. Now I am in a position to be educated/instructed/led-by-the -hand on how to establish/create/develop/distribute/and start a blog. Anyone out there willing to try to teach a very old dog new tricks? If so, call me at 852-7837. Thank you.
