RONNIE’S RAMBLINGS

F

Back - Again - Sort of By Ronnie Wilson

irst and foremost, I want to thank all of you who reached out with concern of my well being after my car wreck a few weeks ago. It was very touching and I am humbled. Thank you. This is the first issue of Ronnie’s Ramblings (RR) since said mishap. My injuries were not outwardly visible, sort of I suffered a bit of whiplash and a concussion. My vehicle was struck in the rear by a pick-up truck traveling around 35 - 40 MPH. I needed to make a rapid stop due to a vehicle turning left in front of me. The pick-up truck behind me did not react as quickly as needed; thus the impact. I was unconscious at the scene for an undermined length of time and was somewhat incoherent and non-responsive. The

4

police on the scene would not let me drive home and insisted I be taken to a hospital for examination. A CT scan was preformed and all looked normal and I did not feel badly. Over the course of the next few days I began to ache and have significant pain across my shoulders, neck and lower back. I also began to exhibit symptoms of concussion. I attempted to cover a couple of events a few days after the accident, but my work suffered considerably. The images were poorly composed and there was an inordinate number of

images that were out of focus. I was also exhausted by the end of the evening. I decided it was time to take an extended rest. My family doctor and a concussion specialist both subsequently confirmed the concussion. I was cooped=up in my house doing almost nothing for

more than a week, going stircrazy. After just over two weeks from the date of the accident, I felt well enough to attempt to cover an event. It was here in Brownsburg, (short drive) and two county teams were playing each other; so I could position myself around mid-pitch and get coverage of both teams. By half-time I was tiring rapidly so I returned home. Wednesday night I again covered just one event. It was

similar to Tuesday’s evening’s. Like Tuesday, I stayed until halftime, but did not feel nearly as tired. Preferring to error on the side of safety, I went home at half-time. Thursday evening/night I planned to attempt to cover two events, One at Cascade High School and the other, you probably guessed it, at Brownsburg, versus Avon. I did cover both, and things went well. Friday night’s coverage was a bit of a conundrum; There were two big local rivalry football games scheduled, Brownsburg at Avon and Danville at Tri-West. With four Avon/Brownsburg events already covered this week, I decided to go to the Tri-West/ Danville game. (I had a last minute change of plans. Since the Avon/

Brownsburg game started at 8 p.m. and considering TV timeouts, I was able to get there and cover almost two quarters of it.) The week was a good news/ bad news week. There was one event per night that was close to home for me, (two on Friday), but four of the six were Avon/Brownsburg events. I prefer to not have one issue of RR be quite so heavy with coverage of merely one or two schools. That is the bad news. The good news is, I am getting back to doing what I love; though not as quickly as I would like, but none the less getting back; sort of. I am not sure if I will immediately be publishing two issues per week, as was my custom, but I anticipate getting back into my regular publishing routine some time soon.. Thank you again for all of our support and well wishes, it/they are greatly appreciated and aid in my ongoing recovery.
