In my last Presidents prose, I made a point – rather an observation - that the Porsche Club has the ‘drivers’ in comparison to other car clubs members. This point must have resonated with fellow members as a number of our club members have since come up to talk to me about this article. To recap – I highlighted the facts that while our members equally love washing, shining and showing our prized cars as much as the next car club, we have from my observations a different breed of sports car aficionado. A unique breed of car enthusiasts. We love air-cooled, water-cooled, flat 6’s V8s, Turbos, along with all wheel drive, old Porsches, new Porsches, historic Porsches and we love babying and rebuilding Porsches. We passionately love PORSCHES and that is an incontestable fact. But more than anything we love to put our Porsches - our steeds - on the open road and set them free so they can come alive ( within legal limits of course). We take them out to track days as a non competitor just for fun, to GT3 Cup challenges, Targa Tasmania, the High Country, Carrera Cup or even journey to the hallowed ‘RING’ in a hired Porsche and pretty much everything in between. We just love our Porsche cars and the more intimate connection we can get at pace, uninterrupted with a clear conscience the better. This was sheeted home to me again- and profoundly so when at our club last round at Morgan Park in November one of our long serving club members towed out behind his wagon a historic ultra ( + ‘ultra’ ) rare historically significant RSK Porsche that would be worth north of many$M. To see this internationally lusted over Porsche at Morgan Park sitting openly in the pits beside our 911’s and GT3s when this car could justifiably be under lock and key in the Porsche Museum was astonishing. It is I say the power of the Porsche connection the sheer competence of its cars and the connection we achieve as ‘drivers’. To this day Porsche Club Queensland is still the only car club in Qld that hires racetracks on the weekends for its own members to legally go out and enjoy their cars unfettered in a supervised environment. Oh I feel a drive of the RS is brewing as I write this but I digress..

Ohh the lust we hold. I ordered my RS 2 years before the big day of its delivery. Its delivery was on a Friday and a number of club members joined my pilgrimage to the dealership to collect it. I was like an expectant father. If I could have driven the RS up to our apartment when I got it home and given it its own room and bed I would have. Man I was excited. BUT, what was the first thing I wanted to do with the RS? Take it to QR – or any place with corners for that matter. So before dawn the very next day the RS and I went to QR and entered a special round of Shannon’s. I just wanted to feel the RS in turn 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, I wanted to feel the sharp responses to throttle, feel the RS under brakes. To DRIVE this special car in its environment. So my RS was run in ( respectfully nursed) at QR. That was our first quality day together. What a connection we made. I recall a fellow club member who Ill call ..‘RB’. ‘RB’ bought a very sweet PCB delivered 997 CARRERA CUP ( not a cupcar as this was a limited edition ‘S’ version ) and upon delivery his first order was to bring it out to a PCQ QR track day. ‘RB’ had had this new 997 CUP for only days I recall when we met him trackside. Let’s just say ‘RB’ was experiencing the time of his life and had the Porsche driving ‘needle’ as we call it firmly in his arm. He was amped, beaming and loving the track day and certainly pumped with what his new Porsche delivered to its new driver. This is where it gets entertaining and reaffirms that we love DRIVING PORSCHES. We let ‘RB” know that about 6 club members were loading our cars on to a transporter on the next Tuesday and heading down to NSW for the following weekend where we were joining PCNSW on one of its track days. Ever the driver, ‘RB’ took his 997 CUP straight back to PCB on the Monday and traded up to a new 997 GT3 sitting in the showroom for dealer delivery the very next day. The GT3 was driven direct from PCB to the waiting transporter where it was delivered along with our cars basically trackside I Sydney so ‘RB’ could enjoy driving his new GT3 and experiencing all the things that a special Porsche can deliver when put in its true element. Porsche and driver acting as one. It’s addictive. This may explain why
Porsche cars have higher than average KLM readings compared to the likes of Ferraris and Lambos. Like I say - we love driving these special cars our Porsches don’t seem to mind either. Ok. This brings to a close our clubs 40th Anniversary year and I hope you enjoyed the festivities and you participated at one of the many events we had. I would like to thank fellow committee and club members who helped out across the year. The Noosa weekend was fantastic and I am optimistic we will repeat it in the following years. The 2014 year finishes on a high note after Morgan Park where numbers were up and everyone I saw beaming and commenting we need to be back more often. I have just come from our Man Cave morning which you will see covered in this magazine. Thank you Don Munro for facilitating and thank you Tony Van der Drift for supplying the food. If you would like to see more coverage head to our facebook page. You need to join if you haven’t already as we now fast approach 450 members on our PCQ Facebook page. Have a safe and a family filled xmas break. I would like to thank my committee for supporting our great club and investing the time they tirelessly do. In fact I think we will double their pay next year. Thank you also to our past committee members who stepped down after years of good work. Finally, please take your prized Porsche out for a DRIVE and see you rested up in 2015 for another BIG year. Dave Beard Club President
EDITORS NOTES
When I met Derek, I knew that he has a passion for Porsche. It wasn’t hard to spot because he was (and still is) best mates with my brother and they were always talking about their cars and the next project to make them better. Derek’s first Porsche was a yellow 2.0L 1969 E that he owned before my time. I’ve only heard about the car, but according to him it was the best of all the 1969’s he owned so far. Not only the colour of the car was perfect, but the car was in good condition and didn’t need a lot of work to make it the perfect Sunday afternoon drive. Unfortunately he had to part ways with the E, but not long after we met he got his hands on a white 2.0L 1969 S. The car needed a lot of attention with a rusty body and good mechanicals; between him and my brother, they were up for the task. Our garage didn’t only turn into a man cave, but the world’s problems were solved over a beer or two.
and held its own against much later cars on the road and track. When we decided to move to Australia, there were tears about leaving the S behind. Derek wanted to import the car, but the floor pan was a rusted and we knew it would be difficult to get an old rusted left hand drive car into Australia. The S was sold to an independent Porsche specialist, and Derek could not stop talking about his S and longing to own another Porsche a great deal of time. It took him a very long time to find another car that could replace the S, he found another 1969 2.0L but this time it was a T. The car is a lovely green and Derek decided that it will be his project to rebuild the car. More about Derek and his T in next month’s editor’s letter. I wish everyone a Blessed Christmas and if you are travelling, be safe and have fun!
Derek was very fond of his S and seeing that I had a history of being a bit of a speedster in my brother’s 912, I never even tried my luck driving his car. There were many great roads close to our home that we could take the car for a blast, and it never disappointed with the S being pitched against the latest hot hatch in a race and never losing. The kids were still small enough to fit in the back seats of the S and we had some great Sunday morning drives as a family. They really enjoyed the car and the excitement was big when we took the car out for a drive. We regularly joined the Porsche Club in Johannesburg for a breakfast run and it was always a nice outing to have a group of Porsches out on the road. The club hosted a variety of breakfast runs and track days with interesting cars making their appearance. After a couple of years of ownership the S became more reliable

FROM
THE
We have now completed the Motorsport calendar for this year and results will be posted soon following a review of points. The last event schedules for December has been cancelled as it was a QR open sprint and not enough slots could be obtained to run a championship round. It has been a year of rebuilding and numbers are on the increase again with new cars and members taking part. The best news that it has been a largely incident free year which is what our brand of Motorsport is about, safety is our greatest concern and it would appear that changes made to the way events have been run has contributed to this.
CONTROL
We will be looking at changes to the Motorsport rules for next year in an attempt to make it fairer for all, some of our rules are becoming dated and technology has now moved on and will enable a better classing system to be implemented. We will also be looking at an option of opting in or out of competition point as there are a number of members who just want to come out and enjoy their vehicles in a higher speed environment without the pressures that competition brings. These cars will be catered for in a separate run group designed for beginners. It will also be essential that we have more members joining the motorsport committee to assist with the running of our events.
TOWER
Next year we have three weekend days booked across the year which will be joint days with Paul Stokel from Driving events, this will give members the opportunity to have training in the morning and put it into practice in the afternoons. The atmosphere this year at the track has been good with having fun and friendly rivalry being the culture, we look forward to this continuing in the new year. Thanks to all those who have contributed to this year and in particular Eric Van Dyk who calculates the points, Mick Paine who helped out through the year and Morgan Park in particular as our timer, and David palmer who assisted with the Scrutineering at various events.

Great Expectations! Article by Sheldon Arkinstall
Many of you who regularly participate in the Club’s track days will know Ben Foessel, son of George Foessel. Both Ben and George have been members of the club since 2010 and are both wellknown and respected track day participants.
2012, where he finished a very respectable 5th, in what was a very competitive series. Ben also participated in a number of State rounds of the Production Sports Car Series during 2012, gaining valuable race craft and experience along the way.
What a lot of club members may not know is that in recent times, Ben’s love of motorsport that he developed and honed within the club, has led to some pretty spectacular achievements within a number of high-profile racing championships, including the Australian GT Challenge Series Championship. As a result of these outstanding achievements, Ben now has a great chance to start a very promising future in a high profile European sport car championship in 2015! But more on this later…
This experience, coupled with a strong desire to achieve and a Dad who travels to Germany regularly, lead Ben to try out for the VW Sirocco Series in Germany in 2012. On his first attempt Ben was unsuccessful; he thinks due to a lack of race experience. Not one to take ‘No’ for an answer, Ben then tried again in 2013, this time being accepted as a starter – in fact he was the first Aussie to be offered a drive in fact! Unfortunately on this occasion, for personal reasons, Ben had to decline the offer.
Ben who is now 24, started out with the club by competing in a motorkhana with his Dad back in late 2010. Since then, he has participated in many club and non-club speed events such as the Leyburn Sprints, Noosa Hill Climb in their MX5. It is amazing to think of the achievements that he has gained in only four years, having coming from such a relatively humble origin. It’s pretty extraordinary.
However exposure to his Dad’s 996 GT3 at club events seeded Ben’s desire to get into a far more exciting series, the Australian GT Championship. So, what is the Australian GT Championship? Well taken from the Australian GT website it is “To run a professional and sustainable national championship designed for all levels of drivers, focused on the competitors, series partners and audience.” The series runs a lot of rounds along sides the V8 Supercars on a weekend with a massive talent pool of drivers the competition is very competitive!
Competition Career to Date Ben started his competitive racing career in the Australian Suzuki Swift Race Series in

To give him a fighting chance in the series, George bought Ben a fairly well-credentialed car, the ex-John Goodacre 996 GT3 – some guys have all the luck huh? Ben didn’t waste this opportunity and set out to teach some of the other competitors a lesson or two in the “Challenge” division and at the tender age of 22, did so by winning his first event in the series at Bathurst! What an ‘intro’! From such a great start, he actually went on to do better, eventually winning his class in the 2013 Australian GT Challenge Series Championship. At first attempt! Not a bad effort with just over 2 years of racing experience. Showing that this was by no off’ effort, Ben (now in a 997 the Challenge Division title 2014 Championship as well, sweep in round 6 of the
means a ‘one GT3) secured again in the after a clean championship!
The detailed results for both the 2013 and 2014 championships appear elsewhere in this article. Highs, Lows and Heroes Favourite Race: The V8 Supercar Production Series at Qld Raceway in 2013, as this gave great exposure as a driver; HRT in particular having shown great interest. Biggest Disappointment: The 2014 Sydney 500, where he qualified very strongly, but race 1

for their honesty, that fact that they are clean drivers and no ‘BS’ sort of guys.
Scariest Moment: Not surprisingly, at the Nürburgring! Ben got his corner count wrong and very ran wide, coming very close to putting the family BMW into the wall.
Career Aspirations
Favourite Track: Also not surprising, the Nürburgring. Why? Because there is always a lot of risk running a hot lap at the circuit and it requires consistency, deep concentration and ultimately, accuracy.
His ultimate goal however, is to qualify for the Blancpain Sports Car Endurance Racing Series, GT Cars. This is the motor racing series that took over from the FIA GT3 series. This is the ‘Big time’ in terms of GT racing and takes an enormous amount of commitment and financing. It costs well over a few hundred thousand euro to run a season as a 1/3rd driver.
Chosen Co-driver: Not surprisingly, Mark Webber – no need for further comment. Role Models: Mark Webber, Daniel Riccardo and Simon Wills. As these drivers have proven themselves against the best and shone. Ben says he admires them most

In the short term, next year is still up in the air, with options both in Australia and potentially in Asia. Ben hopes to keep GT racing as long as he can.
Personal Transport On the personal side, Ben doesn’t have a Porsche as personal transport, as one might
expect. Instead he has invested in a beautiful, very, very original 1975 BMW 2002. This is an amazing little car. It is totally original, having full log books and receipts…from new! It also has some pedigree, having been owned by the renowned artist David Bromley, from Byron Bay. So, from humble beginnings at local Porsche club sprints, one of our very own is on the cusp of breaking onto the elite realms of Sports and GT racing. This is even more amazing when you consider that Ben’s racing career started at 20 or so years of age; most if his peers having had at least 10 years of carting and other race experience at the same age. I’m sure that I speak for all club members in saying that we have all great expectations of things to come for Ben in the coming years!

Brisbane driver wins 2014 GT Motor Racing Championship Series
After six nail-‐biting rounds spanning nine months, spread across four states and two countries, 24-‐year-‐old Ben Foessel from Brisbane was yesterday crowned the winner of the 2014 GT Motor Racing Championship Series. Next stop: the biggest and best brands in international motor racing. There aren’t many 24-‐year-‐olds who can say they drive a Porsche at speeds exceeding 250km/h and spend months at a time learning from the biggest names in racing in Australia and abroad; but as Ben Foessel puts it, he’s living the dream. Foessel was yesterday crowned the winner of the Australian GT Championship Challenge Division at Highlands Motorsport Park in New Zealand, topping the ladder with 649-‐points and a 146-‐point margin from the seven other competitors in his division. Foessel only started driving two years ago and remains undefeated overall at the top of his class. “I’m so happy to have taken the Championship title for the second year in a row, this is a dream come true,” said Ben. “This year has been steep learning curve, networking with the best in the sport in Australia and internationally, and dedicating my time to continuous improvement on and off the track. I’m so pleased that the many hours I’ve spent training and focusing on business development have culminated in another victory.” Racing is far from being a 9-‐5 job for Foessel. To maintain his fitness, he spends 5-‐8 hours a week on a motorsport simulator and trains for 8 hours a week with a specialist cross fit coach. He also invests considerable time into researching the sport and networking with potential sponsors. “One of my primary goals this year was to increase my engagement with sponsors and fans via social media, and it has proved to be very well received. It is really motivating when you know people are supporting you and have your back,” said Ben. But there’s no time for social media out on the track, which is where Ben really hits his stride. “My favorite event of the year in 2014 was round two on Philip Island where I spent well over one and a half hours blasting around the track, to finish an entire lap ahead of my rival. It was exhilarating. The adrenalin is addictive,” said Ben. Foessel said he owes his success to a dedicated team of people, who are always waiting in the pit stop or by his side to offer encouragement or assistance. “I would like to thank my parents, the team at KPH racing, and my wide network of team partners for their support in the 2014 season. I couldn’t have reached the podium without you,” said Ben. Next year Ben has his sights on Europe to race to join the new Audi TT Sports Cup series, along with selected rounds in Australia.

Tourist Barn find in the Cape, South Africa The day starts out like any other in the historic town of Stellenbosch, South Africa: sleepy, calm, unpredictable. In the distance Table Mountain guards over the Cape as it has done for millennia. To the West is the majestic Hottentot-Hollands mountain range, overlooking the endless patchwork of wine farms. No two days are the same here. There’s a good reason why the Fairest Cape is also known as the Cape of Storms. You never know what to expect next. As you turn left onto the R304, leaving behind this postcard-pretty town so famous for its wine and university, the road opens up and Simonsberg appears on your right. A few minutes later we turn right to Weltevreden Estate, which in Dutch means “well pleased”. You have to know it’s here and even if you do, it’s hidden from view until the last moment. Only when the gates open up and the majestic Cape-Dutch style mansion appears in front of you, do you know that you’ve arrived. drivers.
The restaurant, called Lekke Neh Heroes, is fairly busy and I’m shown to a table in the corner. Which I don’t reach until much, much later because I suddenly know why the Porsches were parked outside. And why, looking through the window, another one is on its way. It’s unlike any restaurant I’ve ever been in. The owner, an enigmatic businessman and gentleman racer, recently decided to put his personal collection of motorsport memorabilia on display. What must be one of the largest Michael Schumacher collections anywhere in the world decorates the high, white walls. It includes the racing suit that Schumacher wore during his Seventh F1 World Championship acquisition. His signature is everywhere. There are F1 steering wheels – a whole collection of them. Also gloves, shoes, a racing harness, to name but a few items, signed by famous racing
Photos of an ordinary looking guy sharing the cockpit of a 956 with Derek Bell give us a peek into the racing history of the estate owner. Look a bit further and there he is again, now with Walter Rohrl. Then, with a 911ST after a race somewhere in Europe.
For those into older Porsches, large photographs of 935s, taken in dim light from behind, reveal how red-hot, almost transparent, the KKK turbos get under full boost.
For those not so interested in cars or motorsport, there’s an impressively framed guitar signed by Madonna and one signed by Bob Marley. And a shirt that Lionell Messi wore during one of his famous games, signed of course by Nelson Mandela. I suddenly understand why the restaurant is called Lekke Neh Heroes, which simply means “very nice Heroes”. Just when you think you’ve seen it all we walk over to an unassuming outbuilding. What can possibly beat the collection in the restaurant?
As the fluorescent tubes light up one by one they reveal a collection of Porsches you’d never expect to see outside of Europe or the USA. It starts humbly with a 912, 911T, 911E and 911S, all of them in concourse condition. The S is gold in colour which, apparently, was done by the factory on request by the first owner to match the colour of his Galaxy. Every one of these cars is for all practical purposes a time machine. Next in line is a ruby red 964 RS which at some point was quite legendary (and respected) on the South African racing scene. It’s hard to overlook the fact that this model, which in the nineties was worth about the same as a
normal Carrera 2, is now worth over five times as much. The 993 era is represented by two very special models: a GT2 Evo, of which only a handful were ever made, and a GT2 which won the World Championship in 1995 and competed at Le Mans on three occasions in its younger years! Not a similar one – the actual one. The massive fender flares on these GT2s make a normal turbo appear narrow and somewhat lame. Which is indeed the case, if one takes into account that combined they have 1200hp on tap.

There’s a white 996 GT3 RS in the one corner and, for good measure, a 996 GT3 RSR that never made Le Mans and was shipped directly to South Africa. This specimen is virtually brand new, having only competed in a few club events. Then, looking somewhat modest among the who’s who of 911s, by far the rarest car of them all: a yellow 968 Turbo RS. With single digit production numbers you’re unlikely to ever see one again - ever. Maybe in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. This car was featured in the September 2014 edition of GT Porsche. The Cape is a strange place: mischievous, mysterious, reserved. It shares its secrets sparingly and only with those who know where to look. If you dare to explore and allow time to stand still for a while, surprises await around every corner. This was one of the bigger and more unlikely ones. Who would ever expect to find one of the most interesting Porsche collections, and Bob Marley’s old guitar, in a barn outside Stellenbosch. The Apex Collection @ Weltevreden Estate was officially opened by David Piper and Sarel van der Merwe in February 2014. This is a wellworth visit with an amazing collection of Porsche GT cars. A visit is strongly recommended.
Boxster S – Driving Desire Meet Pamela. She is playful, sexy and has curves in all the right places. I never thought I could be seduced by a woman, but Pamela is different. We met one sunny Friday afternoon at Porsche Centre Brisbane for a weekend date that would change my perception of cars and driving forever. I was a bit hesitant before we met because I have heard of her beauty and felt intimidated by her brand new body. I had butterflies in my stomach when I was introduced to Pamela. She is not just any model, but a Boxster S. As she was standing on the showroom floor she had five spoke alloy wheels painted partially black with Pirelli tyres, black leather seats that are electrically adjustable, a satellite navigation system, sports chrono option and would cost $168 515 to take home with me to keep. Her engine the 3.4 L version from the latest 991 Carrera and has 232kW and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in only 5.1 sec! Her top speed was not something we were going to test as she can go to 279km/h, best left to test on the roads where she was built in Germany. Driving Pamela home from Porsche Centre Brisbane was such a big event for me that I invited my husband Derek to join me when I picked her up. This was not just because we were both so excited to take her home for the weekend, but because at that stage I was still too scared to drive her home on my own. She was too precious; I had to get used to her first. We left early the Saturday morning to meet up with our fellow PCQ members at Morgan Park, and we decided to take the scenic route to Warwick. Derek was in his element behind

the wheel and I enjoyed the wind in my hair with the roof down. One thing I soon realised was that Pamela can be enjoyed from the passenger seat as well. I was getting used to her and almost ready to drive. Derek didn’t complain that he had to do the driving for now. He was falling in love as well.
slower cars, her mild side showing us that she is just as happy going at a crawl than driving through corners with enthusiasm. We headed back to Beaudesert down the pass with the PDK shifting down and blipping the throttle on braking, as if it knows exactly when you want to enjoy her wilder side.
Not long after we left home, I was ready to move in behind the wheel. The first thing that I appreciated was the ease that I felt behind the wheel. She invites you to take her for a drive and the PDK gearbox making it a pleasure, not needing to think about gear changes or having a heavy clutch on your left foot she made quick progress to Beaudesert on the back roads. With my heart beating at 100 miles per hour she just has a way to make you feel relaxed. Soon I was very comfortable in her plush interior and ready for the big day ahead, her engine playing the tunes and not the stereo. I grasped the idea that she is for everyday enjoyment and not just to take for a special occasional drive.
From Beaudesert back onto the Cunningham Highway she once again enjoyed the corners up the Main Range, she was built for these roads. Her handling very neutral and precise and confirming that critics around the world are right, she really corners as if on rails. Her cabin is a very comfortable place to be with the leather seats hugging you as if it was built for your posture alone. The rest of the facia layout reminding us a lot of the early 911’s with the flat design fresh for a modern car, and very unlike the wrap around styling started in the 90’s. The gauges are typically Porsche with the three dial design making her feel like an old friend that is visiting for the weekend.
When we took her on the open road she purred like a cat, she was in her element as the road began to wind towards Tamborine, taking every corner in her stride and the suspension set-up perfect for a comfortable yet firm ride. The navigation system is easy to use and all you need to do is sit back, relax and watch your speed.
We stopped for breakfast while she rested amongst all the rusting machinery of Bestbrook Mountain Resort, looking very modern and stylish.
Going up Mount Tamborine we had a clear road ahead, the PDK gearbox keeping the engine on the torque peak without breaking a sweat, the combination of the smooth gearshifts, torque of the engine and wind in our hair become intoxicating. Quickly we caught up with slower traffic and had to stay behind the
Just before Warwick we were welcomed by the local police RBT, it was a bit early in the morning but we knew they are always active around the Warwick area. Arriving at Morgan Park Pamela was in her element to be with all the other Porsches. She got her fair share of attention being the beauty she is and we didn’t mind sharing her looks. It was a great day at the track and although there was as variety of exceptional cars, the cars that got most of the attention were the 718 RSK and the Brabham
Formula 2 car. We couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel and get Pamela back onto the road. We were in the mood for a cheese platter with some wine on the side and Stanthorpe wasn’t too far away. I was getting used to driving Pamela and was already dreading that I had to give her back. I lived in the moment and let her top down once more to feel the wind in my hair. I didn’t want this moment to end. Once we arrived in Stanthorpe we found the perfect spot for tasty cheeses and some good bubbly. I was in my element as were Derek because he knew; now it was finally his turn to get in the driver’s seat again. We had a beautiful view from the verandah we were sitting on. One the one side was Pamela and on the other side were some delicate vines. With the sun nearly setting we took a very picturesque road that runs along the

Queensland and NSW border home. We went through Bald Knob State Forest, then through Mount Lindsey State Forest while the sun was setting, this was idyllic and the feeling returned that the weekend cannot end so quickly. On the winding mountain roads it was now pitch dark and luckily we were the only car on the road. Still driving with the roof down was just taking in the splendor of our surroundings as well as the striking sound of Pamela’s engine. Early on Monday morning we were both sad to say goodbye to Pamela. She looked very comfortable in our garage next to our ‘69T, the heritage clearly visible and the progress made through the years astounding. We were happy to have her, but knew it was time to take her back. I took my time driving Pamela back to Porsche Centre Brisbane, enjoying the last gracious drive for now.

by Greg McWhinney PCQ was invited back to be a part of Oktoberfest 2014 – VP Tony van der Drift had been asked by the organisers to extend an invitation to all the German Car clubs’ i.e. Audi-BMW-356 register-PCQ-Mercedes-VW to put on a German Car display for the public. PCQ agreed to be a part of the event, so on the Sunday a bunch of us met up at PCB to drive around in convoy to the ECCA showgrounds. We had a great selection of Porsche’s 356 – Boxster – Cayman - 911’s from 80’s – 90’s – 2000’s - 914 & a 928, the organisers had made it ‘free’ entry if you brought your car along before 10.00am. Tony’s award winning 356 was on display along with Rob McCray’s Track/Tarmac Rally 911 when we arrived – once the 8 of us from PCB parked up and were happy with the display it was time to look for a coffee. Shortly after three Mercedes’s arrived, a beautiful four saloon from the 50’s in a gorgeous deep red, a two door 350 V-8 coupe from the late 70’s & a very nice 80’s four door both in silver. It was a great day out all PCQ members had lots of people coming up and asking questions, for photos with our cars and were amazed that most of us were very happy to share facts about Porsche’s & let people sit in and take as many photos as they liked of our pride and joy. As you can see from one photo I had one young lady ask if she could stand up through the sun-room and have her girlfriend take some photos and I was only too happy to oblige. Lucky Tony was there to capture the moment. Next year I think will be even better so why not come along & join in the fun of a PCQ social event in 2015. MAN CAVE SATURDAY
@ DHM AUTO SOLUTIONS The idea came from PCQ’s first attendance at Cars & Coffee at Coorparoo back in September – having several fellow ‘clubbies’ saying ‘wow what a great morning – great cars – guys talking cars - looking over everyone else’s cars & enjoying each other’s company in a neat relaxed environment while enjoying a Saturday morning coffee. Club President Dave, I & some other PCQ members were talking & wondering if we could have a PCQ style Man-Cave Saturday. We all agree that it’s a great idea & so “Greg please make some phone calls see what you can come up with”. So first I looked to our club magazine to

support those workshops & businesses that support the magazine & provide services to PCQ members. A phone call to Don Munro at DHM AutoSolutions & ‘Yep we’d would love to host PCQ at the new premises’ and so plans got underway – cars to invite to be on show – BBQ – style of info talk, between Don, Ian & I we estimated that between their own customer base & keen PCQ members we think about 5060 people could attend the morning. For member’s information, I’ve also been in contact with T&D Automotive – Flat Six Motorsport & Performance 9 about hosting the club in 2015, all have agreed to the idea so look out for dates in future 2015 PCQ magazines.
I’ll also look to approach MR tuning / Harding Performance / other workshops / tyre suppliers / Motor Sports apparel business that advertise in the club magazine & those businesses that club members use that don’t advertise in the magazine to offer some verity & information on Porsche ownership. Personally I’d like to see a Dyno-morning – it was something PCQ did over 10 years ago – you get to find out what your Porsche has at the wheels – last time a charity was the benefit of each Dyno run & was a fun morning with different members giving each other some good light hearted banter; as each model performed against the exact same model in the same conditions, i.e. 928 v’s 928 – 996 v’s 996 – GT-3 RS v’s GT-3 RS and so on.
My idea is to see if we can have a Man-Cave Saturday about every 10-12 weeks across 2015 to offer some verity as each business will have a different point of expertise to offer the PCQ members. As for Saturday 29th November at DHM Autosolutions – officially it was to run from 9.00am to Midday but for some members, who were so keen, they were on site well before 8.30am & the car park area was full before 9.00am, so for some they had to park next door. Don, Ian & there small team were amazed by the support – by the end of the morning Don estimated about 90 people had attended across the morning, with a steady stream arriving & leaving across the morning of Porsche / performance vehicle owners e.g. one very cool

looking 69 Camaro with its owner attended the morning. Special mention to Peter Harberg (PCQ Life member) who brought his V-10 Carrera GT for everyone to look at & admire while being very generous with his time in sharing his experiences of Porsche ownership & racing experiences for over 5 decades. To Rod Hall opening up his shed next door to DHM Auto-Solutions allowing members to enjoy his collection of cars & bikes & Rus Kempnich with his Genuine 73 RS & 996 GT-3 RS both in white with blue Carrera script (for those who attended Rus arrived late in the morning). To (PCQ-VP) Tony van-der Drift for supplying his amazing Gotzinger sausages for the DHM team to cook up.
I for one found it to be a great morning to catchup with fellow ‘clubbies’ – get to look over some amazing cars – discuss various aspects of Porsche ownership with very knowledgeable people all while enjoying a coffee & sausage in a roll. So do yourself a favour if you missed out on attending our first Man-Cave be sure to make the next one in 2015. Happy Porscheing Greg McWhinney PCQ Social Director. Photos courtesy Allan Carseldine
Meet Andy McElrea
– owner of the 2014 Carrera Cup’s winning race team
Andy McElrea was born to race. He attended his first race meet at just two months of age. Today he owns and manages McElrea Racing, a fully equipped Porsche race team that boasts an incredibly talented and experienced group of people. Together, Andy and his team make McElrea Racing one of the most respected and wellknown race service providers in Australasia. They are also proud winners of the ultimate Porsche racing prize, the Carrera Cup Teams Championship, a title they claimed for the second time at the last race of this season in October at the Gold Coast 600. “We had five cars racing in Carrera Cup this year and are proud to have walked away as the top Carrera Cup team in Australia,” Andy said. “We worked incredibly hard to make it happen. As a race team, our focus is always on winning – we are very serious about success so it’s nice to have it in our hands again after last winning it in 2011. While our lead driver Warren Luff was second in the drivers’ championship, we are proud to be the only team to finish with a driver in either second or third place over the last four years.”

Andy credits the 2014 Carrera Cup win to McElrea Racing’s very talented team. “They are an incredible bunch of people,” he said. “They know how to have fun and how to work hard. Already we’re out at Queensland Raceway testing cars and drivers in preparation for our first race of the 2015 season in Adelaide, commencing on 26 February. Once again, our objective for next year will be to win as many races as possible.” The team’s achievements over the years include fifth in the 2009 V8 Supercar Development Series, Mini Challenge Teams Champions in 2010, Carrera Cup Teams Champions 2011, World Time Attack Champions 2012 and Carrera Cup Teams Champions 2014. Andy’s love of racing runs very deep. Born in New Zealand, he is a third generation racing driving; his grandmother raced in local car club events. Andy raced his first car when he was 15 years of age; it was an Austin A30. He then raced his first ‘real’ race car, a Formula Ford, at age 17 in the National Formula Ford Championship. He’s raced in many championships since then. He’s also lived, worked and raced in New Zealand, the UK
and the USA, breaking records along the way. After six years in California, Andy has called Australia home since 2002. As Porsche Team Manager for the then V8 team, PCR, he participated in his first Carrera Cup event in 2004, with Jonathon Webb behind the wheel. Andy’s participation has grown every year since then. He formally established McElrea Racing in 2009, and after running two cars in the re-born Carrera Cup championship in 2011, he’s been running five cars since 2013. The team ran five cars in the 2014 GT3 Cup Challenge, culminating in victory in B Class with young rising star Matt Campbell from Warwick. McElrea Racing also fielded two GT3 Carrera Cup cars in the Australian GT Championship, with Michael Hovey taking third place in the Trophy class against some far more expensive and exotic machinery. The race team is based at Yatala in South East Queensland, which is mid-way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. “It’s a great place to live and a great place to work at doing what I love best, racing Porsche race cars,” Andy said.

Classic Outback Trial – Adventuring Porsche Style
Who in their right mind would want to drive a Porsche for two thousand five hundred kilometres in outback Australia all on unmade gravel roads? We all know Porsches are designed for driving along iconic roads such as the Great Ocean Road, the Nurburgring, Phillip Island, Targa Tasmania and other great tarmac roads - not rough, gravel packed, stony or sandy ones! Wrong! Porsche cars can handle anything we throw at them, as quite a few 911’s can testify to; witness Dakar, African Safari’s, Peking to Paris and other marathon rallies. However, to the best of my knowledge, not too many 944’s have been given the “dirt” treatment. When we started to build the car I “Googled” for information on what I should do and could not find any reference to another off-road rally 944. So we proceeded with the build and made it up as we went along. The process began with sourcing a non-running 1983 car with an OK body (we had it running within about an hour), we proceeded to strip and fit a roll cage, re-build the engine, with 10.5;1 compression, a flowed head, slightly larger throttle body, custom made exhaust and eventually, the piece-de-resistance, suspension from Murray Coote (MCA). We raised the car about 75mm and fitted a full length under-tray. I had been driving, racing and rallying various 968’s and 944’s for some time so we had a workshop full of extra parts which made it easy and an obvious choice to build a dirt car from the bits.
Porsche could handle the conditions. The rally runs for seven days over two thousand five hundred kilometres, of which about nine hundred kilometres are competitive. The competitive stages are all on closed roads (read tracks), through state forests and private property. The longest stage was ninety-five kilometres through an outback station. The rally starts in Parkes, Central NSW and proceeds west with overnight stops in Condobolin, Cobar, Ivanhoe, Broken Hill and finishes with two nights in Renmark SA. The tracks are basically the private access roads for the owners of these huge properties. Some are maintained, others are not, as a result surface conditions vary greatly, from tree lined forest tracks, to mud holes, to sand dunes, to fast flowing, to just fast along a ten kilometre fence line, to the sixty kilometre final blast down the Border Track, normally an iconic 4wd track, at speeds I will not mention. See below.
The development took some time and I ran the car in a few local dirt rallies over about two years as we slowly sorted out various issues including overheating due to the enclosed under-tray and as I mentioned, suspension issues. All along working up for the big one in the form of the Classic Outback Trial. I had competed in this event three times previously in a Peugeot 504, so I knew what to expect and I was confident the 5632

The 944 performed superbly. The only issue we had was the front lower control arm bushes, which could not handle the pounding over the rough conditions. We had opted for the early steel arms, which we reinforced, but we did not take into account the inadequate bushes, probably left over from the Volkswagen Golf of the time, in later models Porsche changed to far more robust alloy type with much larger bushes (I’ve ordered a set). This did not slow us up in anyway, but it was the only maintenance that we performed, other than replacing 200ml of engine oil, cleaning the windscreen, checking under the car, patting it’s bum and putting it to bed; a typical Porsche and not a bad effort for a thirty year old one being driven like we stole it, over roads, I am sure it hopes never to see again. When most other cars about us were being continually rebuilt by replacing engines, gearboxes, diffs, struts, you name it, as they succumbed to the

rigours. Many service crews worked into the night, we went and had a meal and a beer. I trust only Porsche owners will read this as I may be accused of bias – never - I hear you say!! We finished 16th out of thirty-eight starters. We should have finished eleventh, but for my underestimation of the amount of fuel the car used at warp speed through the sand dunes. I was short by about thirty-five litres and that cost us an hour of competitive time. This did not detract from our enjoyment of the rally. We didn’t enter to win, but to enjoy the adventure and to use up some adrenalin, all seven days of it. The car speaks for itself; with a bit of a clean, a set of alloy lower control arms, it could go again. We were constantly impressed with its stability, handling and braking, not to mention safety, all at very fast speeds for the conditions. Other cars performed equally as well, some faster, but I doubt if as reliably and with such ease. It was a pleasure to drive and one of the best rallies I have competed in. It was very satisfying to prove a point and finish in such style in a car not your average run of the mill rally machine of choice. Rally details The rally started on Friday with registration and scutineering in beautiful Parkes in Central NSW. Parkes is famous for being named in honour of Sir Henry Parkes, GCMG (27 May 1815 – 27 April 1896) who was regarded as the Father of the Australian Federation. Also the famous telescope featured in the movie “The Dish” and which, more importantly, received messages from the moon on the first landing back in 1969. It is now better known for its Elvis Presley festival. The fun stuff was set off by a prologue on Saturday over eleven kms of rough winding tracks, just enough to prepare us for what was to come. Briefing and a Civic Reception followed and we got set for our first full day on Sunday. After an early start and after a tasty egg and bacon roll and coffee, supplied by Frontier Services staff, the rally’s principal charity, we headed off to Condobolin, driving through 112 kms of competitive stages and 164 transport. This really got the adrenalin flowing and our coordinating skills tested as it required some quick calling of lots of route chart directions and careful driving to stay out of the greenery on the narrow forest tracks. The lunch stop was at Ootha alongside some interesting outback artwork in the form of “Utes in the Paddock”, A collection of various people’s ideas of what to do with the iconic Aussie ute in their afterlife.. Monday dawned and we eagerly tackled the next stage to Cobar, again after being fed and coffee’d by Frontier Services; 225 kms competitive and 216 transport, a long day. We were getting used to the car and our teamwork improving hourly. Our dedicated service crew met us at all the right places with, a windscreen clean, fuel and more coffee. At some of these breaks, I decided that I needed the rest more than the car. The car was asking for more and we were loving it.

At about this stage of the rally, we became ignorant of the day and the time, other than start time and book-in time, then there was dawn and dusk and the kilometres rushed by; 209 kms competitive and 260 transport to Ivanhoe. Ivanhoe, sounds like it’s out of a romantic historical novel, but that must have been long ago. No romance left here, the pub was shut and for sale, would you believe. No worries we had adequate supplies. We camped out here and had the dubious pleasure of listening to male night-time noises, from every direction, and tent zips, and old blokes like me wandering off for a midnight toilet stop. I will leave all of this to your imagination. The camping out was fun, but we certainly slept well the next night in Broken Hill after 175 competitive and 277 transport. We were now passing through some of the immense outback properties; one million acres and enough tracks to drive around for a month. Go for a Sunday drive here and you would drive all day on the same property. Some were fast flowing tracks, almost like outback highways. The Porsche gobbled them up, we saw 170kph once or twice and regularly into fourth at 135 and over. One had to be careful, however, as there were plenty of surprises as in the form of along one fence line then doubling back on the other side, dry sandy creek crossings, trees, kangaroos (which we saw, but avoided), gates - all open for us, crests, sand dunes, gutters, wash-aways, I could go on, but you get the message. We spent two nights in Broken Hill, alongside the largest man made slag heap in Australia (?) and the most and largest pubs I’ve seen in one town. The hotels are huge and are interspersed with some beautiful buildings. The town oozes prosperity, but this is now an illusion. You can buy a miners cottage here for under $60,000 and one with three bedrooms and a pool for $200,000. We drove 15 competitive kms and 17 transport to Silverton for lunch, which we had in the Silverton Pub, very Australian outback style and well worth a visit. We lunched on beer and hamburgers and had the rest of the day off. The next two nights we spent in Renmark, over the border in South Australia, a beautiful Murray River town. The stages to here were fast apart from the sand dunes some of which caught us by surprise by not having a back to them, we buried the nose on landing over one or two, but no damage, the Porsche just took it all in its stride, until it ran out petrol, my miscalculation. We pushed so hard through the sand, with the very effective torque that it used a lot of fuel.
No matter, we enjoyed spectating and watching the passing parade, that is after I finished stamping around and swearing (not for long). Competitive kilometres this day were 140 and 290 transport. The transport roads were very corrugated and rough. The car was fitted with Dunlop rally tyres which have very stiff Kevlar reinforced sidewalls, which do nothing for ones teeth fillings on this type of road. Much better on a sandy bush track. The Porsche, as normal, shrugged all this off and still refused to rattle or squeak or slow down. The final day was short with two stages on the Border Track; the first 30kms of a very windy section through tight bush, followed by a 160kph cruise on a rutted and rough single track. The second stage was 30kms also with fast straight sections joining sandy dunes with sudden dropoffs and sharp corners on the descents. We blitzed this with 160 being the norm when we could. The Fat Lady Sings, was a blast through a sometimes sandy orange grove to a fantastic finish at Angoves Winery in Renmark. What! It’s all over? No more adrenalin pumping fun??? There were lots of comments such as, “ with another lay-day we could do it all over again”. Alas not till next time. Presentation Dinner was the normal anti-climax, but a chance to say goodbyes and to share a few experiences and tell a few lies. Wow! What a car! What a rally! Bring on the next one! The full rally details are available on www. classicoutbacktrial.com.au. If you need more information on the rally and what you need to do to enter your Porsche in the next one to be run out of Alice Springs in 2016, send me an email. Brian Canny Bcanny@netconnect.com.au

Bathurst Motor Festival 2015 The Bathurst Motor Festival is on again in 2015 and Porsche Club NSW have been invited to run a category once again. The event will be held over 3 days during the Easter weekend in 2015, the dates being Friday April 3rd through to Sunday April 5th. And we would love to welcome some more of our interstate friends to join us again this year for an opportunity to experience one of the world’s great circuits. Please feel free to forward this email onto your members. Places are limited as we have offered slots to the 2014 participants first and the take-up was high. Other states have received this information simultaneously, so time is of the essence. Our Category Our Category will be run as an exclusively Porsche Marque Regularity event just like in 2014, and will be run under a CAMS licence and in accordance with the CAMS Regulations for Modern Regularity. We will also be imposing some of our own additional regulations for the safe running of the category. For example, we will require that competitors have reasonable experience on a race track in order to compete – a minimum of 3 CAMS Sanctioned Supersprint days in the past 2 years. Under specific CAMS regulations for the Mt Panorama Circuit, there is currently a minimum lap time (fastest accepted) of no faster than 2:40. This time limit is outside our control and is enforced by the organisers, so take it into consideration when making your decision to enter. From experience, a well driven road going GT3 on slicks is likely to go under this time, and a GT3 Cup car is almost certain to go under the time. The CAMS guidelines also stipulate that the slowest car should be no more than 130% of the fastest nominated time - which means 3:28 is the slowest any car can run. It's pretty clear that in the interests of safety, we do not want gross variations in the potential speeds and lap times. Use the 2014 event times published on www.natsoft.com.au as a guideline for your car type. Our Category will be open to members of all Porsche Clubs in Australia - we will however be monitoring entries to ensure that they are fairly distributed across the clubs. We are intending to have each state compete for an interclub trophy at the event. There is a track limit of 55 cars for the grid. Once the Category is fully subscribed, we will me maintaining a Reserves list on a first come basis. Participants from the 2014 event have already received an advance opportunity to register - however we have now opened up the remaining slots to anyone in an Australian Porsche Club. Following from the success of last years format, we have negotiated to maintain the length of the runs and you will get 5 x 20 minute runs over the weekend, consisting of 1 x practice (Friday), 4 Regularity runs (2 x Saturday & 2 x Sunday). Bookings – Holding Deposit Bookings to reserve your place are on a first come basis. Initial offers are to those who participated in 2014. The total cost will be approximately $1,250 per entry with a deposit of $650 required to hold your spot. Final costs will be known closer to the event. This is a small increase over 2014, BUT does include a $50 fuel voucher from Racefuels for use at the event. This booking is for the holding deposit payment. You will be contacted via the email address you provide at a later date for the balance of the entry fee – most likely in late January/early February when we will have a better idea of final entry fee. As some background, PCNSW does not seek to make any profit from this event. We simply take the organisers charges, add a small overhead for an admin tent and ancillary costs and divide this by the size of the field. Individual members can book garages should they require, but these are also handled as pass through costs. We are required by the BMF organisers to commit to the final numbers and pay all entry fees to the organisers well in advance of the event. We are seeking to have some Sponsorship to cover the costs of a Shirt and standardised signage/numbering for the cars (to give a more consistent and professional appearance), so if anyone is able to assist in this matter it would be a great help. Therefore, there are some simple rules regarding bookings:
Bookings are not transferable - they must be made by the person who intends to participate at the event. If you are unable to attend, let us know and your place will be offered to the next person on the reserve list. This is the fairest way of handing a reserves list. We will do our best to refund money should you not be able to attend. We do understand that circumstances change – so if you book and then discover you cannot attend, contact us ASAP. Once final payments have been made (Jan/Feb) we will only refund the entry fees if a replacement is found. This is because we will have already paid the organisers. Since this is a Porsche Marque event, only enter cars of Porsche make and model. Initial bookings are only being accepted from 2014 Participants for the first few days – so don’t send this email to all your club mates. Note that it says Participants – if they booked last year and withdrew, then they will have to wait for the general offer. Only one driver per car - it's a regularity, so all 55 cars go out on the circuit at the same time.
The booking portal can be accessed via the link in this email. The link will also be published on the PCNSW Web site. To reserve your place and pay a holding deposit, follow this link: Porsche Regularity Event - Holding Deposit Payment You will be asked for a security code (displayed on the screen) and you will also require a Registration Code - which is: BMFEARLY For those who are not members of PCNSW:
Some of the fields asked may seem redundant - this is because the system pre-fills some fields from member records. Since many of you are not members of PCNSW, we need you to enter the details in full. Enter your car details in "Car 1" field (you don't need to say Porsche - we already know that bit) Leave Car details for 2 thru 4 empty Nominate Car 1 as the one being used for this event.
For all Drivers, we assume that you are the owner of the car (the entrant) unless you tell us otherwise. Note that the Entrant will be the name as shown on the car registration papers or (if your car has one) in the CAMS log book. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need anything clarified at captain@pcnsw.com.au Looking forward to a great Festival and seeing you all there. Morgan Park Our annual two day event at Morgan Park was held on the 21st and 22nd of November 41 entrants attended the event was opened up to other clubs and we had one from the HRCC and four from the BMW club, and this was the best attended event of the year, the weather was unfortunately hot with both days in the 40’s which didn’t help with anything liquid cooled and a couple of radiators were found wanting in the conditions. Wet towels round the neck were the norm by lunch time following sprints in race suits and helmets. Both long and short tracks were used over the
two days and a numbers of PB’s set . There were some interesting cars present with a very rare Porsche 718 RSK owned by Peter Harburg making an appearance and showing us what motor racing used to be, this is a very rare and valuable vehicle once owned by the Porsche family and it was great to see it once again on the track in the hands of a very competent driver. Also there was a Brabham BR 18 once driven by Sir Jack Brabham and now owned
Article by Ian Gall Photos by Kent Kieseker by Rodger Hall , again a rare and interesting vehicle but one that requires a little assistance to enter and exit ! I had my new car out for its first event having picked it up from Don Munro on the Friday afternoon at 6.00pm and driven straight to Warwick to run, it is proving to be a very capable car and a whole lot of fun , thanks to Don and the team for all the effort put in to get it there. The Warwick Hotel was booked for a meal and a few beers on the Saturday night and this to was well attended, Sunday proved to be another hot day and most and we closed at lunchtime. All in all a great weekend and we will be doing more at Morgan park next year. These are expensive events to run as the club does not have any cams officials in its ranks at present, if anyone is interested in gaining the necessary accreditations please give me a call.

SOCIAL DRIVE
THE RACE-TRACK AT WARWICK
This is very exciting for Social ‘clubbies’ get the chance to drive not only to Warwick for lunch but also have the opportunity to drive Morgan Park Race-Track in a ‘controlled-pace’ environment. Peter Harberg (PCQ-life member) mentioned at a club night over 12 years ago that owning a Porsche is one of the best things you can do as you can make friends for life in PCQ – interstate & overseas. To that point PCQ had been contacted over a month ago by Andreas & Ingrid Kottschoth of Canada / owners of a 996 and members of Porsche Club Canada – advising they were travelling Australia, and would be in Brisbane that weekend & asked if they could attend our drive day to Warwick, I say ‘of course-we’d love to host them for the day’. Next I needed to find two members who were attending as I needed to find two ‘empty’ passenger seats & two members agreed; all good, then two weeks before the event both have to pull out due to unexpected work / personal commitments. Out goes a request for two seats & Club Secretary Kent Kieseker & club member Taavi Orupold are the first to offer to help so all good, but over the following days many other PCQ members offer to help out with a spare passenger seat as well. Kent & Taavi meet up with our ‘guests’ Andreas & Ingrid from Canada in the CBD of Brisbane & bring them out to the Coffee Club at DFO Jindalee where we all meet up over a coffee. We had brand new Porsche owners / new

PCQ members (a week old) John Fraser & his wife also ask if they too can join in the social drive to Warwick – more the merrier. We then ‘hit the highway’ with over a dozen cars & we head out on the M-7, then take the Cunningham Hwy out to Yamanto, we then leave the highway & travel down to Boonah. Then across to Aratula & on up Cunningham’s Cap & into Warwick, where we stopped for lunch in town before heading out to the track.
We catch up with the Track guys & girls where they greet us warmly (it was a 37 degree day) and answer our questions as to how best drive on the track & what to do and such. Ian Gall arranges a safety talk for all the social-newbies to drive-the-race-track experience with the CAMs Steward, after the safety brief where it’s explained that for this to continue to be available for PCQ in the future all drivers must drive in a responsible manner. Ian has agreed to be the ‘Pace-Car” again explains that we drive at just under 100kms/hr all drivers must drive in a responsible manner but most importantly enjoy the experience – along with their passenger. So out we go – Ian increases the speed starting out at about 90kms & a lap later we’re close to the 100’ks/hr, and we have a great time – everyone comes in 5 laps later with huge grins & talking that it was so much fun. All drivers are asking when can we do that again – and our Canadian friends think that the day has been ‘just the best’, meeting new Porsche owners – Coffee/Lunch – Race-Track experience & being driven ‘In-Land’ so getting to see a different part of Australia.
I go off and thank Ian for all his work in arranging the experience – we start talking how everyone really enjoyed the experience and discuss how we can go forward - and it looks like we have an idea for 2015 that would be great. Ian will look to introduce a ‘New-drivers/ Regularity Group’ to the track day events in 2015. This is for those of us who don’t want to drive ‘flat-out/race pace’ we can drive at our own pace in a run group driving in a very similar manner – conservatively quick that is -- you drive at your pace. So if you have ever thought ‘I wonder what’s it like to drive my Porsche as quick as I want – in a safe environment – without losing my licence – then this is the event for you. I for one will be driving in the 2015 - Regularity Group as trying to drive 5 laps at the exact same conservative speed lap after lap is a great challenge – the old adage – ‘slow is smooth & smooth is quick’ it’s also is a lot of fun. Some of us head off home, some stay for a while looking at how the race guys & girls drive the race-track, while others have decided to stay & go out for dinner with the ‘Race-Group’ that night – all in all a great weekend for all. Happy Porscheing Greg McWhinney

| Bruce & Gail Absolon Bruce and Gail Absolon are long time residents of Hamilton Island where Bruce works as the Island’s Development Manager and Civil Engineer and Gail works as the Island’s People, Culture & Development Co Ordinator. Both Bruce and Gail have very competitive streaks and met through an interest in yacht racing where Bruce has competed at top level ocean racing, campaigning a world famous pocket maxi in major off shore regattas up and down the east coast with much success. In addition to that they both share a penchant for high quality vehicles, ones that are collectable but predominantly usable and can be enjoyed. Apart from yacht racing, Bruce cut his teeth in Motorsport in the mid seventies competing in what was the Formula Ford Driver to Europe series, campaigning an Elfin 600. The love of the sport never waned but was only satisfied in later years by a series of collectable road cars. Bruce and Gail are rekindling their motor sport interests by entering in the 2015 Targa Tasmania in Gail’s little runabout. Whilst it doesn’t have a 911 designator, it is a two seater from another German manufacturer. One day, the car loving sailing couple hope to add just the right GT3 or Twin Turbo 996 to their stable as an accompaniment to their Cayenne GTS and SL500.

Round nine of the club championship was held at lakeside on the 26th of October in the afternoon 28 entrants enjoyed a great afternoon with plenty of track time available and weather whilst warm was conducive to quick times. The “magic minute” at lakeside has been eluding a couple of drivers for some time now but this event proved to be the turning point with
both Phil Brook and Antony Vanderdrift finally breaking this milestone Phil with a 59.153 and Tony with a 59.476 congratulations to both on this achievement in addition 17 PB’s were bettered. These half day sprints have proved popular and we will be including some in next year’s calendar. Several new members came out for a look and are considering joining the motorsport fraternity as a result.

911 GT3 - $153,000 Neg Unique opportunity to own one of the premier 997 GT3’s in Australia. This car has been my pride and joy for the last 3 years and I have regretfully made the decision to sell this car to fund other interests. The car is a 2007 model, 997 GT3 Club Spec with only 15,000kms. The car has been used recreationally for Porsche Club QLD events and as a weekend driver, with all the usual GT3 inclusions for the road plus an options list in excess of 100K,all professionally installed by PR Technology (one of Australia’s most respected Porsche tuners) when the car was new. All modifications to this car have been completed with the aim of increasing handling without sacrificing the original intent of the road car. The modifications have been chosen to complement each other and a few of the items are as follows: • Fully adjustable 997 cup car suspension including rose jointed upper & lower control arm mounts, stiffer spring rates front and rear including custom valved MCA shock absorbers for better handling on track. The suspension can be tuned for road and track and a second set of softer springs are included in the sale. (bump and rebound are separately adjustable) • Optimised exhaust system • Shorter diff ratio with stronger gearbox synchro bushings • Lightweight clutch and flywheel • Upgraded brake system • Driver and passenger light weight carbon fibre Genuine Porsche Carrera GT seats • 997 GT3R Carbon rear wing and front splitter • 997 Carbon Cup cup car intake system with remapped ECU (Std setting available) • Second Set of 18inch BBS wheels with new Michelin wet weathers. • OMP Steering wheel and boss system • Lap timer Receipts from PR technology can be provided which shows the level of commitment invested in this car along with the myriad of different parts installed, tuned and serviced throughout its short life. This car is in excellent condition and is the ultimate iteration of the last manual GT3 series. Comes with 12 months rego and all standard parts (as new) included in price.

Porsche 934 Replica CAMS log booked, roll caged and road registered. Very recent engine upgrades including new 98mm pistons/barrels, carrillo rods, EFI conversion with Vi-Pec V88 ECU, twin plug, 964 plastic inlet manifold, Tial F46 waste gate, Garrett GT35/82 turbo, setup for E85 fuel, conservative mapping of ECU and small pipe extractors giving a handy 375 rear wheel horsepower from 5,000 to 6,000 RPM at 1 bar boost (my dyno man reckons better extractors with same boost and safe, but less conservative ecu mapping should give circa 440 RWHP). Freshened G50 gearbox, new Velo seats, new Momo Prototipo steering wheel, BBS wheels 18x10 fronts and 18x11 rears. Since above work the car has only done two hill climbs: PCQ HC Mt Cotton Aug 2013 and Noosa HC Nov 2013 . Car is entered for PCQ Noosa HC July 2014 . Circa $30K spent over past three years. The car is a lot of fun to drive with about 500 horsepower (at fly wheel) and weight of circa 1120KG . A very reluctant sale and the only reason the car is offered for sale being my present unplanned fiscal situation. Asking $80,000 (including a tilt trailer, numerous spare wheel sets in 16’s, 17’s and 18’s and various expensive spare parts). Alternatively I will consider relationship offers from a warm understanding lady with a nice house (and garage) willing to accommodate me and my Porsche.

1973 Porsche 911S Targa - $23,950 This is a genuine 1973 Porsche 911S Targa. It is an original right hand drive car which is nearing the tail end of a restoration. A lot of the hard work has been completed to date. It is a rolling chassis with suspension, wheels and just about everything needed to complete the restoration. The only things missing is the engine and gearbox, I believe. This would look great in the garage next to the 991 Targa.
