FOCUS: WALL/CEILING LIGHT

ROOMSTORE FOCUS CATALOGUE no. 7

Dear reader, Autumn is here and the cold, cozy and dark evening hours approaches rapidly. Therefore, we have chosen to dedicate this issue of the digital Roomstore Focus catalogue to indoor wall and ceiling lamps. We have picked out several classics such as Mantis BS2 and BS5, bot lamps that now also come in smaller versions with integrated LED light source. Are you looking for a beautiful and unique lamp in bamboo, we suggest that you have a closer look at Flax from the New Zealand brand, David Trubridge. All lamps in our assortment function with LED light sources, and we recommend that you buy our light bulbs from Tala, who focus on mitigating climate change. We hope that you will be inspired by this focus catalog. You are always welcome to contact us for further information. Best wishes, Thomas, Brian & Daniel Team Contract Roomstore

THE MANTIS SERIES DCW ÉDITIONS

Location: South Yarra, Australia Interior design: GOLDEN Product: Mantis BS2

Produkt Se mere her

The French company DCW is founded by Philippe Cazer and Frédéric Winkler, in 2007. Their mutual passion for design had its starting point in Bernard-Albin Gras and his Gras lamp, which DCW put into production, as the first design of many.

As an admirer of Alexander Calder, in 1951 Schottlander created the Mantis series of lamps. Movement is intrinsic to all of Schottlander’s work: an artist, an engineer and in no small measure a handyman, he devised a clever system of counterweights combined with a series of strong and flexible metal bars. The shade also is unique of its kind. Like an acrobat suspended in midair, it is made from aluminium using spinning and chasing techniques that are a part of the metalworker’s inventory of skills, but to which he has brought his sculptor’s eye to create a helical movement.

05 – DCW Éditions

Driven by the same energy that led DCW to reproduce the series of lights by the French engineer Bernard-Albin Gras, DCW also present the lamps by an equally extraordinary artist, the English sculptor-designer Bernard Schottlander.

BASE + BEAT WALL TOM DIXON

Product: Beat Wall Brass

It was almost by coincidence that Tom Dixon found out, he had a talent for designing. In the beginning of the 1980’s after a motorcycle accident, Dixon learned how to weld, as he had to repair his motorcycle. As a selftaught and independent designer Tom Dixon has worked for Habitat and Artek. In 2002, he established the design company, Tom Dixon.

The robust and honest metalwork design embodied by Base is what Tom Dixon is best known for. Its classic silhouette has been modernised and adapted giving it the status of an interior design staple. The Base collection combines a smooth finished brass or a highly-polished copper shade with a matt textured cast iron base.

Products: Beat series, Wingback Dining Chair, Brew and Tube Table

Perpetuating the skills of artisan craftsmen in Northern India, Beat’s origin is a re-purposed water vessel; hand-raised, welded, beaten and skimmed into functional silhouettes for the refraction of golden light. A variation on the famous original Beat Light, made from spun brass, the Beat wall light incorporates the familiar hand beaten shade with a solid brass dimmer dial and can be adjusted to direct the light beam.

David Trubridge graduated from Newcastle University in England in 1972 with a degree in Naval Architecture (Boat Design). Working as a forester part-time in rural Northumberland for a short period, he taught himself to make furniture. His carefully crafted designs were shown all over the UK. David’s designs have featured in countless international publications including the most influential, as an instigator of the trend of ‘raw sophistication’ and as an exemplar of environmentally responsible design. In 2008, the French magazine Express listed him as one of the top 15 designers in the world, and in 2012 the Pompidou Centre in Paris purchased his ‘Icarus’ installation for its permanent collection.

Flax Pendant is based on the long slender leaves of the indigenous flax plant or harakeke in Maori that has long been grown for its valuable fibre. There is a Maori proverb about preserving important resources: If you cut the central stalk of the flax bush, where will the bellbird feed?
