true to you Lately it seems like my social sphere is made entirely of people interested in discovering more about their personality types. Everyone from my grandmother to my fellow millennials has urged me to find out my Enneagram number. After yoga one night, my classmates talked me into Photograph by Rett Peek downloading an app that gives me a daily horoscope based on my birth chart. I took both the Myers-Briggs and True Colors tests years ago, but The Five Love Languages is still on my list. One thing is for sure: Embracing your most innate traits has never been trendier. Outside of everyday interactions, one of the best ways to get a sense of someone’s personality is to take a walk through their house—provided you’re invited, of course. Paint colors, fabric choices, art on the walls—these elements are a reflection of how an individual perceives the world. And as much as you can attempt to group people by types and tests, personal style is actually just that—personal. Your home should reflect that. While putting together this issue, I found myself reflecting on what defines a home as “new” traditional, our theme this month. There are probably dozens of ways to answer that, but I think my favorite interpretation involves imbuing the home with a sense of character regardless of style. From a mix of vintage and contemporary art (page 41) to mementos from time spent across the pond (page 46), each detail tells a little bit of the story of the people who live there.
