ThePresident’sLetter Happy Holidays Everyone, The autumn season seemed to have flown by with more activities opening up with agility, scent, rally and other performance trials becoming available. Our breed is well represented among the elite performers in Dog Performance Sports. After the very long awaited publication of results of the 2019 Multi-Discipline we are thrilled to congratulate the exceptional accomplishments of these teams: The Top Multi-Discipline Team of 2019, Tammy Hibbertson and Quinta, CH AGMCH NP JTX RAE2 RMX AGMX3 AGMXJ3EDT This dedicated team achieved Top Agility Dog All Breed, Top Rally Dog All Breed and #5 Obedience Portuguese Water Dog. Hearty Congratulations also go out to the number 1 and 2 Multi-Discipline dogs in the Working Group: Top Working Group Multi-Discipline winners, Lori Crouch and Oscar, RGCH GMOTCH Ridgehaven’s Oscar the Crouch CGN NP RMX RAE8 AGN AGNJ. Lori and Oscar achieved #2 Rally in Working Group, #2 Portuguese Water Dog, #3 Obedience Working Group, #1 Obedience Portuguese Water Dog. Number 2 Working Group Multi- Discipline winners, Brenda and Mission, #2 Agility Working Group, #2 Portuguese Water Dog, #4 Rally Portuguese Water Dog and # 5 Obedience Portuguese Water dog. If I could ask for a round of applause, I would! The 2022 National Specialty plans are moving along with acceptance our request to hold it at the St. Catherine’s show, August 12-15. The Performance component will be held August 10-14: Water, Obedience , Agility, and an addition to the line up, Scent Trials. We are hopeful that the border will be open so that our American friends will be able to participate. Lastly, the PWDCC has created a Club Face Book group. We are populating it with helpful articles, videos and or course the ability to connect, exchange ideas and hopefully arrange member meet-ups in your area. National Specialty information will be posted as it becomes available, and we will have the ability to advertise regional events as well. You should have received your invitation to join the group. Some concern about timing of scent trial causing issue with water trial and those volunteers that support the water trial. Best to bring Karen Mathews in as a guest to our next meeting to discuss coordination. Frank to send Karen an invite for December meeting.

CAER Eye Clinic was a huge success. There was a request for a refund: we declined as entry form stated no refund. This breeder has requested their membership in the PWDCC to be removed. We did this and have subsequently asked the breeder to remove their verbiage about membership in the PWDCC.

Jennifer made a motion to invite the specialty and sweeps judges for our speciality, Frank seconds. Approved. (Note judge’s names are confidential pending CKC approval.)

Rescue Morfrends/K9 Concepts (Cyndi and Rob Morin) have agreed to take back the dog they bred. Due to inter dog aggressive behaviors she is having trouble rehoming and has asked rescue for help. We have nobody on file suitable. Five year old intact male. Any ideas from the board? None came forward so Frank to contact the Morin’s to advise.

Jennifer advises that a dog will be coming into the program, an eight year old neutered male with anxiety issues (on meds) and is fearful of other dogs and constantly barks. Breeder is from Quebec and is no longer breeding. We have no suitable homes currently on file. Roslyn to reach out to Deirdre Hall to see if one of her clients would take this dog. 2022 National Specialty As it turns out we need a new sweepstake judge as our candidate isn’t vaccinated. Roslyn sent us a list of suitable judges to select from. Thinking of maybe a Canadian should there be continued border issues. We decided to move forward with an American candidate as sweepstake judge. Pat Vokes to be approached by Cathy to work as board liaison for our water trial.

Karen Mathews is requesting a CKC Scent Detection Trial as part of the Superdog events at our Specialty in 2022 (August 10th). In order to do so the club must hold a sanction match first and within 3 years of the “official” trial. Rule book page 3….section 1.2.8. Karen has been in contact with a CKC Scent judge (Jane Book) who also has a training hall. She is willing to judge a sanction match (January 21st) for us AND allow us to use her building all for $100. As such Karen requests the Board’s approval to hold the sanction match and as well as a money request for $100 upon receipt of the invoice and $550 for a scent trial at our specialty. Opening up to all breeds would allow us to make some money. Also required is a show superintendent and a show chairperson and a show secretary. Karen agreed to be chairperson, Diane the superintendent and Kim Outaway as secretary (she is experienced). Q and title ribbons would be needed as well. Frank made a motion to approve the expenditure of $100 for the CKC sanction match, $550 for the specialty match, plus all ancillary expenses (CKC fees, Ribbons etc.). Diane seconded. Approved.

Also living with Frankie is Elsa (almost 9 months old), Ava (coming up 4 years old), Dexter (will be 4 years old in February) and Bella (11 ½ years old).

PWDCC members were in attendance in Rally, Obedience and Conformation at the Georgina shows. From Kathie Hick: Kodiak and I had a very successful weekend.He earned his Pre Companion Dog Title (pending CKC approval) and qualified in all four trials (he only needed three). He did extremely well, much to my surprise. I’m very proud of my little man, aka Mr. Trouble. From Karine Simard: It was really nice to do obedience trials again after two years of no trials. We’re celebrating again. Ann and Reef had a very nice week end 3 new titles CDI, RA, RI with high scores, see the charts below! Pending CKC approval she is now BIS BOSS GCH Pattedeau Crown Jewel, CD CDI RA WWDX CGN (Henry x Moon)! Congratulations Ann Rob Wilson and Reef ! It was a pleasure to watch, proud breeder! (Karine was trialing, alas not her weekend!) June Murdock and James were out, and other PWD breeders and owners were in attendance. It almost felt “normal”. Conformation GChB Downeast Drewsar Kwik Hitter was Best of Breed all three days with two Group 4 placements.
